Eminem cd cover analysis curtain call

Front coverThis cd cover has many readings and can reveal a little information about the artist. He seems to be bowing to the audience ‘curtain call’ the album name seems to be informing us very much. The roses are thrown to show appreciation of a good performance. Individuals would know who the artist is due to his popularity his face hasn’t been incorporated which is normally shown on cd covers. Image quality is amazing on this cover. The typography was very simple not to fancy in any way.

Back coverThis back cover had all the normal expected conventions of a back cover institutional information, barcode, company logos and track names. The image works very well as their is more emphasis on the roses as there is more lighting coming from this direction the colour scheme has been kept to which I believe is great evidence of giving the cd a good look.

CD

A cd which is essential had the roses darken out which may reflect on the image in the inlay card as dark images are used on that. The other inlay image makes the artist appear into deep thought. His name and and album name is kept in colour not like the background.

Inlay card 1This image made me quickly become aware of what image I would like to portray of my artist I found that no text was added. I felt that this was unusual but nether less essential as the name of the artist is on the cover. Also again the quality of the image is really great. Eminem seems to be in deep thought which could be linked with the album name curtain call inferring that this may be his last album and that he may not be back for time. The colour in this image him feeling trapped lost alone wanting to be hidden. The colours black normally show dark feelings . Eminem has had alot of hassle in the media due to his personal life over the years. He is subliminally informing us he may hide away. The rain also complements my readings as rain can represent deep emotion as he looks to be in deep thought.

Inlay card 2This inside cover was very simplistic underneath the large text is a definition of curtain call again Eminem is explaining he current situation an what he is reflecting on this album . As audiences we also understand his mindset. The text underneath the says ‘ an appearance by actor or performer at the end of the concert or play in order to acknowledge the applause of the audience’ [syn; bow] The cover is simple but delivers the message very well making it a quality design.

Analysing cd covers allowed me to realise what was important and what would need to be added into my cd cover. Consistency seemed vital as the same colour scheme was used throughout. This is a feature of this cd tha our group will use. This adds to the fact that it seems much more eye-catching. I didn't no what to expect from an inlay card as I do not purchase physical copies of cds. They were very simple as an image was used for the first inlay. That alone was enough to gain multiple readings. Our choice of image had to appear as if the artist is thinking or some sort of representation. the second inlay card had an indifferent element as it didn’t seem conventional to add a cd cover. This inlay card gave a definition which in effect explains the front cover as the artist is receiving applause from the audience as roses are being thrown at his feet. This could be insinuating how much he respects his fans for the success he has become. By bowing he is showing appreciation. All these features will help me make decision of what I hope to include in my cd cover. Simplistic but yet effective and delivers quality.
