BACK EDUCATION

FAQs from Readers and Patients

POSTURE CONTINUES….INACTIVE POSTURE LYING POSTURE Using a firm mattress is preferable for lying and keep an ideal pillow to support your normal alignment.

LYING POSTURE Lying over a sagging bed and using a big pillow or too many pillows/ no pillow is not good for a better back. Even though it is a rest, these poor postures result in aching back and neck due to abnormal alignment of back column.

SUPINE LYING -Head pillow not too high or flat Keep a pillow under the knees allows the low back to be flat to relieve tension over the low back, thigh muscles

SUPINE LYING: Don’t keep a big pillow or

too many pillows which may alter the normal alignment and create hollow lower back. Even though this kind of lying is rest, this position causes back and neck problems.

SIDE LYING: Pillow should not be too high /too low. It should be optimal height & support the head and neck in alignment with the body. The arm and legs should be flexed a bit comfortably
