From the rom the rom the rom the Principal Principal Principal Principal A big thank you to the staff, parents and students of Ellen Stirling Primary School for making such a wonderful start to the 2018 academic year. I appreciate the effort of all our families as we collate their school gear and head into the new Business Plan for 2018. As you may be aware, the new direction for this plan includes ‘Explicit Direct Instruction’ for our Literacy and Numeracy lessons. This approach is research based and effective in mastering new skills as well as constantly reviewing learned skills to move from short term memory to long term memory. Your children will certainly reap the benefits of this approach across the school. Spelling Mastery is a program that is in every Year 3 to Year 6 class this year and as part of a successful program, the Spelling Mastery workbook for students is essential. Please ensure your child’s copy of this book has been paid for through the booklist or through the front office. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES FOR 2018 Please help the school provide world class education to your children by paying these contributions. The ESPS School Board has approved a voluntary contribution of $50 for each student enrolled. This money helps provide resources and materials for a variety of educational programs in your child’s class. A breakdown of all contributions and charges can be found on page two of this newsletter. We really need to push to increase our current collection rate of 30%. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Payment can be made through the front office. PARKING Parking continues to be a problem in and around the school at busy drop off and pick up times. The safety of our students and their parents is a priority. The City of Swan would like to remind all parents to obey all parking signs and be patient and vigilant at all times. Please see pamphlet from the City of Swan. School Parking Parking restrictions are put in place near schools to protect children when they are either dropped off or picked up from school.

Parking signs Parking signs show if there are any parking restrictions in the area. You should always look for and read parking signs when parking your vehicle. If you do not comply with the parking signs you may be infringed. A ‘No Stopping’ sign will show you where vehicles are not permitted to stop for any length of time, unless avoiding a collision. Signs may also have day and time restrictions. This means the parking prohibitions apply only during the times and days shown. Stand vehicle facing the wrong way Parked vehicles must face the same way as the direction of the traffic flow and not facing oncoming traffic. Verge parking Verge parking within the City of Swan is generally regulated with signage. Where no signage is in place, the adjacent land owner/occupier should be approached for consent to park on the verge. Parking on median strips, traffic islands or roundabouts It is not acceptable to park a vehicle on a median strip, traffic island or roundabout. These controls divide traffic to make driving on busy roads safer. For additional details, please visit the City’s website www.swan.wa.gov.au or call the City of Swan on 9267 9267.

As part of our focus on school effectiveness, Ellen Stirling Primary School will be participating once again in an online survey for parents and students – Tell Them From Me (TTFM). The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students and community think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. The feedback also informs the review of the School Business Plan by the School Board. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve.

The surveys will be open soon and you will have the opportunity to give us some quality feedback. You will receive notifications once it opens, as well as reminders for the duration of the survey.

We look forward to hearing how you think we are going. Mrs Vickee Ashworth

AT CAMP AUSTRALIA, WE UNDERSTAND FLEXIBLE BOOKING OPTIONS – NOW AVAILABLE

How busy life can be, and we heard you when you said you needed more flexibility to help with the ups and downs of everyday life. To support parents, we

have introduced new Flexible Booking Options which allow parents more flexibility and choice over bookings.

When developing these options, we thought about how all parents using Outside School Hours Care have different needs – so we have created three custom

membership options designed to meet the needs of:

 Parents with a predictable, regular schedule who are looking to reduce costs;

 Parents who want peace of mind that they can make changes when they need to;

 Parents who are happy with their current arrangement may receive no changes

In addition to new membership options, we have introduced a new Casual booking option through the Flex-e-Care (e-card), where you can pre-purchase ten

Casual sessions at a discounted Casual rate, make bookings up to 2 hours prior to session throughout the term.

How Do I Find Out More About Camp Australia’s Flexible Booking Options?

For more information about how these new Flexible Booking Options can benefit you, please visit www.campaustralia.com.au/flexibility, or come and chat to

the OSHC team.

We are so excited to launch these new booking options at your school – hope to see you in service soon!
