These school teachers and leaders were interested in seeing the great work that is being done by our staff and students in Let’s Decode, Spelling Mastery and Explicit Direct Instruction for Literacy and Numeracy. They were obviously impressed with the way in which our students were actively engaged with each of the lessons they observed. They were also impressed with the amount of learning content that was delivered and reviewed throughout the day. The visitors were able to witness a variety of year levels and lessons and left with a passion for copying our teaching and learning styles. We are proud of the way in which our teachers and students engage in learning and will continue to build on the successes that we have seen so far. Thank you to the school community for their understanding with the absence of the Crossing Guard on Westgrove Drive. Hopefully, that will be the last of the absences as we head into the cooler and wetter months. Please remind anyone travelling in cars to slow down to 40kmh around the school and to park safely at all times. The school will be repainting the car bay lines in the Kindy/ PP area on Friday, 31 May 2019. Finally, a reminder that the school will be closed on Friday, 31 May 2019 for the Ellenbrook Network of Schools Professional Development Day. During this day, most of the public primary and high schools in Ellenbrook will be attending professional learning courses at the Aveley North Primary School and Aveley Secondary College campuses as a network. Attendance Matters for AchievAttendance Matters for AchievAttendance Matters for AchievAttendance Matters for Achievement ement ement ement and Every Day Cand Every Day Cand Every Day Cand Every Day Countsountsountsounts The link between absence from school and achievement, across all sub-groups of students, strongly suggests that every day of attendance in school contributes towards a child’s learning. Therefore, academic outcomes are enhanced by maximising attendance in school. There is no ‘safe’ threshold. The effects of absence also accumulate over time. A study undertaken by the University of Western Australia, found that absence from school was related to academic achievement in Numeracy, Reading and Writing not only in the current year, but in future years as well. It is important to be aware of these links and understand that when a child misses school, it can have an ongoing impact on their learning. Bullying InformationBullying InformationBullying InformationBullying Information The national definition of bullying for Australian schools says:

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening.

At Ellen Stirling Primary we have a Bullying Policy in place and we do not tolerate this behaviour. If you believe bullying is happening, encourage your child to inform the teacher, through appropriate means. Parents can also inform the teacher by emailing them directly.
