? The UGC (NET) Humanities is conducted by the University Grant Commission.

? The UGC (NET) Test will determine the eligibility of Indian National candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and for appointment of Lecturers (LS) in Universities and colleges in the subjects falling Humanities (including languages). Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Application and Electronic Science.

? The UGC (NET) Humanities Test comprises of 3 papers of objective type questions. UGC conducts NET twice a year i.e. in the months of June and December.

? The ELITE - UGC (NET) package has been designed with a view towards generating supreme confidence for success at the UGC (NET) Test.

? ELITE - UGC (NET) course is also useful to prepare for State Eligibility Test (SET/ SLET) of various States.

ELIGIBILITY - NET

(1) Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) (50% marks for SC/ST/PH/VH) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Applications, Electronic Sciences etc. are eligible for this test.

(2) Candidates who are in the final year or have appeared for Master’s degree or equivalent examination can also apply for the test. However, such candidates will be considered eligible for JRF/LS only after they have passed the Master’s Degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% (50% marks for SC/ST/PH/VH) marks. These candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, falling which they shall be treated as disqualified.

(3) The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination were completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of dates of declaration of result) shall be eligible for relaxation of 5% of marks (i.e from 55% to 50%) to appear in NET Examination.

(4) Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their Post Graduation only. The candidates whose PG subjects is not covered in the list of subjects provided by UGC, may appear in the subject related to the one they had at PG.

EXEMPTION (ELIGIBILITY FOR LECTURERSHIP)

(1) For Ph.D candidates: NET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Lecturers in Universities/Colleges/Institutions. Provided however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded Ph.D Degree in compliance of the “University Grants Commission (minimum standards procedure for award of Ph.D Degree), Regulation 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivqlent positions in Universities/ Colleges/Institutions.

17 ELITE CADEMYThe candidates who have passed the UGC / CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 arealso exempted from appearing in NET.

(2) For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the State Level Eligibility Test (SET), accredited by the UGC for Lectureship prior to 1st June 2002, are exempted from appearing in the NET being eligibility to apply for Lectureship anywhere in India. For SET examinations scheduled in or after June 2002, the qualified candidates shall be eligible to apply for the post of lecturer only in the university/colleges belonging to the same state whose SET Examination they have cleared. However, those candidates are also eligible to apply for appearing in the NET, if they so desire.

AGE LIMIT : The upper age limit for being eligible for the test is as under:

(a) For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Candidates should not be more than 28 years on 1-12-2016 for Dec. 2016 Exam and 1-6-2017 for June 2017 Exam relaxable upto 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PH/VH and women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate form appropriate authority. 3 years relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree.

(b) For Lectureship: There is no upper age limit for Lectureship.

SCHEME OF THE TEST

THE TEST WILL CONSIST OF THREE PAPERS

Paper - I will consist of 60 multiple choice questions of two mark each will be given, outof which the candidate would be required to answer any 50 questions. The paper shall be of general nature intended to assess the teaching / research aptitude of the candidate. It is designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension and divergent thinking and generalawareness of the candidate. In the event of the candidate attempting more than fifty questions,the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.Total Marks of Paper - will be 100.

Paper - II will consist of 50 objective type questions of 2 marks each all of which are compulsory based on the subject selected by the candidate. The candidates will have tomark their response for each question on the answer sheet attached at the end of the test booklet. Total Marks of Paper - II be 100.

Paper - III will have 75 objective type questions based on the subject selected by the candidate, all of which are compulsory. These will be of 2 marks each.Total Marks of Paper - III will be 150.

Note: ALL QUESTIONS OF THE PAPER - II & PAPER - III WILL BE COMPULSORY,COVERING THE ENTIRE SYLLABUS. (INCLUDING ALL ELECTIVES, WITHOUTOPTIONS)

VALUE OF FELLOWSHIP

The candidates are required to obtain minimum marks separately in Paper - I, Paper - IIand Paper - III as given below:-

Only such candidates who obtain the minimum required marks in each Paper, separatelyas mentioned above, will be considered for final preparation of result.

However, the final qualifying criteria for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibilityfor Lectureship shall be decided by UGC before declaration of result.

The total marks and duration of Paper I, II & III are as given below:

There will be no negative marking.

Candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowships will be eligible to receivefellowship under various schemes subject to finding their placement in the University / IITs / Other National Organizations.

The validity of the offer is one year w.e.f. the date of issue of JRF award letter. However, in case the candidate has already joined M.Phil / Ph.D., the date of commencement of fellowship will be from the date of declaration of examination results.

The progress of the research work done by a JRF on the completion of two year of the award may be assessed as per the procedure laid down by the Commission. The fellowship may bewithdrawn if the work is not considered satisfactory. Candidates who will qualify the test for eligibility for Lectureship will be governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Lecturers of the concerned Universities/ Colleges/ State Govts. etc. Candidates qualifying JRF shall avail the award within one year from the date of issue of the award letter.

DECEMBER 2016 / JUNE 2017A Correspondence Course for students appearing in the UGC (NET) for JRF and Lecturership Examination (in Humanities).

The course material is based on NET syllabus prescribed by UGC. The course material is designed in the best possible manner to equip students with the knowledge and confidence required to pass the exam.
