Elfreth’s Alley

Made and Created• Elfreths Alley was made in 1728 by two

blacksmiths named John Gilbert and Aurther Wells. They gave up land to make Elfreth’s Alley.

Guests• People of all different religions were allowed

to live there. Elfreth’s Alley was now the most popular place to live in Philadelphia.

Celebrations

• Elfreth’s Alley was one of the first districts to celebrate the everyday lives of Americans.
