He attended seminary at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, where he studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Lateran University. Since 2015, he has been parochial vicar at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Staten Island. Fr. Rider will be joining our Saint Barnabas family on August 1st.

Bereavement Counselling

There have been a number of funerals/memorials here in the parish recently. We know that this can be a tough time for families of loved ones, especially those who have passed on at a younger age. The priests/deacons of St. Barnabas are available for consultation and counselling - we are here to help! If you would like to reach out to any of us to simply talk or for prayer, please feel free to do so - please call the rectory at 718-324-1478 and leave you name/phone number and (if you wish) specify which member of the clergy you would like to speak with, and we will return your call. Thanks for your consideration and know of our continued prayers for your deceased loved ones. Bereavement Group will be starting in the fall here in the parish under the direction of Ellen Palmer Shannon . Details to follow.

The Washington Ireland Program (WIP) is looking for host families to provide safe, supportive and welcoming homes for 4 brilliant students from Northern Ireland and Ireland. They will be in New York from Thursday 7th June - Thursday 26th July. We ask that host families live within easy access to public transport as the students will be commuting independently to their work placements in New York City on weekdays. This is a great opportunity to support up and coming young leaders, deepen cultural connections and make a contribution to the long term peace on the island of Ireland.

Further information can be found on the WIP website or by contacting Andrew McCullough directly

Saint Vincent de Paul Society In the Gospel, Jesus says: “This is how it is with the reign of God. A man scatters seed on the ground. He goes to bed and gets up day after day. Through it all the seed sprouts and grows without his knowing how it happens.” Join us for our next meeting June 28th in the Elementary School Cafeteria.

The Emerald Isle Immigration Center Meals on Wheels is currently in greater need for volunteers. EIIC meals on wheels volunteers deliver nutritious meals to those homebound in our neighborhood. Altar Server Vestment Memorials

Many families who have lost loved ones have recently been phoning the rectory asking about donating vestments etc for use at Mass. While we are certainly grateful for the very kind gesture, we are inundated with white/green vestments at the moment, and would like to suggest a new avenue in which we are desperately in need of assistance - Altar Server vestments. Our Altar Servers are dedicated to the dignity and service of our liturgies and their vestments are well worn. Many of them are irreparable and several have been repaired multiple times. To replace the entire line of vestments is costly, and we would like to offer the parish an opportunity to help in this area. If you are interested in purchasing either a cassock or surplice (or multiple) and having them memorialized in the name of your deceased loved one, please contact Fr. JP by calling the rectory office and leaving a message at ext. 218.

The cost of the cassocks and surplices are as follows:

Cassocks: Surplices: Size 10-14 (6 needed) - $57 Plain Size 14-22 $31 Size 15-16 (8 needed) - $61 Size 23-28 $33 Size 17-20 (8 needed) - $65
