Plan for Optimizing Transport Electrification Using Advanced Energy Storage Technologies
• Conduct a Feasibility Study, funded by NYSERDA, to determine if the use of an advanced energy storage system to provide electricity to power refrigerated trailers being moved on the Hudson River from Albany to New York City is a viable option.
• Develop an advanced energy storage system used to transport refrigeration units.
• Conduct a Demonstration Project.

Project Benefits
• Reduce use of diesel fuel. – Electricity costs less than diesel fuel
• Better for the environment. • Use of off-peak power to charge batteries. • Use barge as a floating “Cold Storage Facility”. • Evaluate if energy storage can be integrated to
the NYISO in Albany & New York City. – Frequency Regulation, Peak Shaving. – Emergency backup support for NYC grid.

Outstanding Issues • Secure Additional Funding and Project
Participants. • Identify viable Haul-Back Commodities • Identify Battery Manufacturer that can provide
Storage Batteries that will accomplish objective. • Work with the New York Agriculture community
and Federal Government Agencies to expand transportation electrification using Advanced Energy Storage technologies.
• Work through the issues associated with developing a Demonstration Project.
