Introduction
Electrical wiring is the building wiring and associated devices such as switches, meters and light fittings used in buildings or other structures. Electrical wiring uses insulated conductors.
There are three types of wires:-
VIR Wire-Vulcanized Indian Rubber Wire.
CTS or TRS Wire-Cab tire Sheath or Tough Rubber Sheath Wire.
PVC Wire-Poly vinyl Chloride Wire.
Types of wires 1) Vulcanized India Rubber (VIR). It is used in a wire as an insulator. Cotton tape and cotton braiding. To protect against corrosion. Tinned copper/ aluminium. Suitable for low and medium voltage supply
only.
Types of wires 2) Cable Tyre Sheath Wire (CTS). It is used in a wire as an insulator. It consist of Thicker Rubber/ Plastic, Tinned Copper. Don’t absorb moisture Available in 250/440V Only.
Types of wires 3) PVC Wire. PVC(Polyvinyl chloride) is used in a wire as
an insulator. Widely used, long life, Durable against
water, Heat, Oil, UV light. Available in 600, 660, 1100Voltage.
Types of Cables Sorted By: Coaxial cable – used for radio frequency signals, for
example in cable television distribution systems.
Communications cable - These cables are used in a wide variety of applications, including recording studios, data transmission, radio transmitters, electronic circuits.
Direct-buried cable - Direct-buried cable (DBC) is a kind of communications or transmissions cable which is especially designed to be buried under the ground without any kind of extra covering, sheathing, or piping to protect it. Most direct-buried cable is built to specific tolerances to heat, moisture, conductivity, and soil acidity.
Flexible cables - Flexible cables, or 'continuous-flex' cables, are cables specially designed to cope with the tight bending radii and physical stress associated with moving applications, such as inside cable carriers.
oNon-metallic sheathed cable - It is a type of covered electrical cable consisting of at least two insulated conductors and one bare conductor used in residential wiring.
oMulticore cable - Multicore cable is a generic term for an electrical cable that has multiple cores made of copper wire.
Paired cable – Composed of two individually insulated conductors that are usually used in DC or low-frequency AC applications.
Portable cord – Flexible cable for AC power in portable applications.
Ribbon cable – Useful when many wires are required. This type of cable can easily flex, and It is designed to handle low-level voltages.
oShielded cable – Used for sensitive electronic circuits or to provide protection in high-voltage applications.
oSubmersible cable - Tough & Flexible submersible pump cables specially designed to supply power to submersible borehole pumps in a deep borewell.
Twin axial cable - Twin axial cabling, or "Twinax", is a type of cable similar to coaxial cable, but with two inner conductors instead of one.
Twin-lead – This type of cable is a flat two-wire line. It is commonly called a 300 Ω line because the line has an impedance of 300 Ω. It is often used as a transmission line between an antenna and a receiver (e.g., TV and radio). These cables are stranded to lower skin effects.
Control circuit in domestic installation
Domestic Electric Circuit:- Electric power is usually generated at the places which are far away from the places where it is consumed. At the generating station, the electric power is generated at 11,000 volts and its alternates at frequency of 50 Hz.
Domestic Wiring:-The electric power line enters our house through three wires namely the livewire, the neutral wire and the earth wire. The red is the live wire, the black is the neutral and the earth wire is given the green plastic insulation.
