Petition to all GE13 candidates standing for election on issues relating to Bukit Gasing and Section 5 Petaling Jaya sustainable living issues Petition We, on behalf of the owners/residents of Fraser Towers, Cameron Towers, Maxwell Towers, Gasing Indah, Petaling Gardens and others living in the surroundings of Bukit Gasing and Section 5 Petaling Jaya request your consideration and endorsement of support for our concerns on issues that we strongly feel affects our right to a peaceful, safe and reasonable living environment. As owners/residents in the area, we list the following issues: 1. The danger of landslides on the steep hill slope of Bukit Gasing has been proven by recent landslides along Jalan 5/60, which are a result of the illegal development of Sivan Temple, uncontrolled removal of trees and lack of monitor and maintenance of the steep slopes by land owners and the council. 2. Pending development approval of development by Noble Land Developments Sdn Bhd represents a significant danger to residents at Gasing Indah, Fraser Towers, Cameron Towers and pupils at the SMK (P) Taman Petaling should be opposed in the strongest terms 3. Responsibilities of landowners in Bukit Gasing must be communicated and monitored by MBPJ and other appropriate owners 4. The state of the 23 million litre capacity reservoir on Bukit Gasing, including slope condition, drainage maintenance and lack of slope stability monitoring by the appropriate authorities need urgent review and measures taken to preserve lives & properties. 5. Given the dangers of developments on steep hill slopes of Bukit Gasing, where the geological structure is such that any developments, legal or illegal, can be considered a “time bomb” hazardous to properties and lives, a moratorium on any development on Bukit Gasing (both KL and PJ sides) must be implemented until such time a detailed geological survey establishes its geological soil structure and all the necessary long term stability issues and maintenance requirements are established with public involvement. 6. We are concerned regarding the detrimental impact on existing gazetted PJ Bukit Gasing Forest reserve caused by current and planned development both in PJ and KL areas and strongly argues that all hill slopes of KL Bukit Gasing, including majority of current foot hills should be gazetted to preserve and provide a sustainable and liveable living environment for PJ and KL residents. 7. Traffic congestion along Jalan Gasing and roads in its vicinity has become intolerable. There has to be a moratorium on any further development until a detailed and viable traffic dispersal plan, including more effective public transportation plans are developed and implementation approved with public consultation. We urge all GE13 candidates to endorse our proposals above and pledge to adopt an active interest in the above issues if they become the elected representatives. In addition, should any signatory not become an elected representative, they should pledge they will hold those elected accountable to their pledges in pursuit of good and transparent governance.
