The design project solved different challenges:•The flexibility of the use of space, from private selling areas to an open store concept, can change instantly by rotating the display walls.•The amount of display pieces (100) while maintaining the preciousness of each piece through storytelling displays.•We gather a thorough selection of materials and resolution of design components to strict budgetary and scheduling constraints

A museum-inspired, story-telling design displays “floating” jewelry without typical POS displays, while accent lighting focuses on what counts: the jewelry. Elliptical rotating display walls give the store the type of flexible space often found in art galleries. Custom, vertical branding appears throughout the store, at POS, and on packaging. The minimal and serene ambiance is complimented by lacquered wood, upholstered silk panels, mohair, honed limestone, and marble borders to complete the high-end appearance.

Anna Hu-Haute Joaillerie is a 475 sq. ft. hardline specialty store devoted to sell and display high end jewelry primary of diamonds and gemstones. It’s their first U.S. Flagship Store in the Plaza Hotel Retail Collection in New York City.As Project Architect we developed the vertical branding of Anna Hu (concept, layout, POS, web-page and packaging) based on the message:

“Shangria-La is here, it is now”.

Our marketing story and theme is supported by these design elements: Museum quality displays, jewelry as a piece of art; flexible space through rotating display panel walls; accent lighting on what counts “the jewelry”; POS design to float the jewelry and make them appear as objects on display and a minimal and serene ambiance, where the envelope does not conflict with the merchandise.

The display cabinets that are on the walls have movable motorized windows that rise from below to access the interiors of the display. We designed display lighting with LED and fiber optic lighting to enhance the sparkle of the jewelry and to make the shopping experience truly exciting.

The design concept by the Arnell Group is based upon the idea that one enters a unique jewelry and watch establishment in search for that perfect piece. The cave like appearance of the walls – which is created by striated carved Corian, resembles the idea of the searching or “mining” through caves in search for the perfect “rock” that Jacob the Jeweler will find for you. The store is as much about the product as Jacob himself who works with individual clients to fit the most perfect piece to the clientele. As project architect, we grasp Arnells concept and made it constructible, detailing all Corian Panels, display fixtures and glass mechanics and motors.

With their existing project located on 47 East 57th Street between Madison and Park Avenue. The project is a collaboration with the Design and Branding team, the Arnell Group -Innovation Lab and will house the new headquarters for Jacob & Co or otherwise known as “Jacob the Jeweler”. We began a Worldwide spread of Stores and Shop in Shops. First starting off with an entire store in Almaty,Kazakhstan; then smaller shops in Hong Kong, China and Russia. The project is equipped with state of the art surveillance systems, music systems, video display systems, fish tank, and automatic pocket doors. One of the high lights of the project are the video screens that take the design concepts of the watches and jewelry and extrapolate them into a 3 dimension video story board.

Max Mara's experimentation reaches into the experience within the selling space, conceived as a functional epicenter, representing the products and collections through innovative and technological display concepts, which involve the public through new consumption experiences and knowledge of the product.

New Max Mara concept remodel in existing boutiques on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago 3,200 sq. ft and in Newbury Street in Boston 1800 sq. ft. both creating a multidimensional shopping experience in a relaxing and surprising space.Conceived by Duccio Grassi Architects, the interiors communicates with the exterior, the new spaces are dynamic and metamorphic: it fits smoothly into the surrounding environment, welcoming and directing the flows through a judicious division of the areas. As Project Architect I coordinated all concept drawings with existing site conditions, managed all CD documentation and consultants, managed design meetings with the Italian team and supervised construction on both sites up till punch list. The details of hanging systems, mill-work fixtures and wall finishes became most intriguing part of the project.

ARCHITECTURAL PLAN

Our Clients had a mission: create an exhibition space for sculptures, brasses and antiques from China, going back to the Ming era. We design a 50ft gallery curved wall serving also as their main hall. Throughout the design process we proposed different solutions and finally agreed to the curve of time.

When commissioned the project, out of 15 architectural and design firms we became architect, designers and decorators for one of the largest facing apartment-Lofts to Central Park South. From the architecture of the space, 3,200 sq. ft down to the custom designed sofas we have designed every detail. The project is modern but of its own selective design of modern offering excitement, wow and suspense as one walks thought the apartment. As project Architect ans Lead Designer my experience was breath taking, we studied different possible options for the ceiling, gallery and rotunda space in the entry. I personally sculpted the columns and beams with the carpentry crew until its shape represented what was envisioned. From concept, CDs,and project administration and construction supervision I participated in all the trades..

The client who had just gotten married threw everything out and gave us a blank slate to work with. Their only wish was that we create something that was amazing, unique and never been done before.

ARCHITECTURAL PLAN

The Architecture was characterized by five principals. First, the adoption of the principle that the materials and functional requirements determine the result, second the adoption of the machine aesthetic, third the creation of ornament using the structure and theme of the building, fourth the simplification of form and fifth the adoption of expressing the structure. The space expresses cleanliness and openness to all of its natural surroundings using technology and environmentally conscious principals. These are Passive Solar technologies which are means of using sunlight for useful energy without use of active mechanical systems (as contrasted to active solar). For example, the trombe curved concrete wall and glazing in the front facade-south side becomes a passive device by using its mass to heat the house by passing area between the wall and the interior glass and by heating the tubing which becomes slab heating. In addition the positioning the building against the site with the mountain on the north side creates a natural wind buffer.

This residence is designed for a family interested in sustainability and living off the grid. Sustainable architecture attempts to reduce the collective environmental impacts during the production of building components, during the construction process, as well as during the life-cycle of the building (heating, electricity use, carpet cleaning etc). This design approach emphasizes the efficiency of heating and cooling systems and alternative energy sources. The examples of these are solar hot water, solar sitting the building, recycling building materials, on-site power generation (solar technology, ground source heat pumps, wind power), rainwater harvesting for gardening and washing, and on-site waste management (green roofs that filter and control storm water runoff).
