nNew trees take root in Maeen Your community looks greener than before with the replacement of 59 non-performing trees in Maeen. What’s more, a post-planting inspection has confirmed that the new Pongamia trees are taking root and flourishing. The trees will be closely monitored and nurtured to ensure they stay healthy and well established.

Plantation of each new tree in your streetscape starts with the following basic steps:

• Excavation of the pit to at least one cubic metre

• Removal and disposal of the old soil

• Filling the pit with sweet soil mixed with odourless organic compost and fertilisers

DID YOU KNOW ?

Sikkas clear of overgrown landscapingResidents in The Lakes community have well established gardens that are flourishing. It was observed that pedestrian movement along few sikkas was obstructed due to overgrown plants from such well-established gardens. A seasonal activity of trimming such plants was undertaken to ensure that residents moving along sikkas do not get inconvenienced.

Before After

A market day full of fun, food and bargains The most awaited community event – Emirates Living Market Day was held on 24 March 2017 along the lawn behind Springs 15. The event brought residents together from the neighbouring communities to sell their pre-loved clothes, books, toys, arts, crafts, and other household items at over 140 stalls. One of the main highlight was the group of African drummers that paraded the venue with children in tow, singing and dancing to the beats, and finishing off in a group drumming of synchronised beats. Exciting games, make-your-own-pizza stations, sand art, face painting, rodeo bulls, a happiness tent and bouncies for all ages made it a fun filled Friday afternoon for the families and children attending. A wide selection of food and drink counters served finger food and snacks, ensuring visitors went back with happy faces. Participants went away with prizes, adding to the experience of the event and making it a truly memorable day.

nCommunity mosques get a faceliftPrior to the Holy Month of Ramadan, major refurbishments were carried out at all three mosques in Emirates Living in order to provide clean, neat, well-lit and well-ventilated premises for the community worshippers. Listed below are some of the enhancements aimed at giving visitors a better ambience and experience during their prayers.

Duck duck looseIn recent years, an increasing number of ducks have been dropped by residents at some of the Emirates Living lakes. While cute and a reminder of home for many, the ducks are not suited to community lakes.

An avian expert who examined the area has advised that the Emirates Living lakes are an unacceptable habitat for ducks due to high salinity and high water temperatures. Furthermore, well-meaning residents who feed the ducks are setting the scene for an outbreak of avian botulism, which develops from decomposing food and can be fatal to the ducks.

We are seeking options to humanely relocate the ducks to a shelter or farm with suitable conditions for them to live a healthy life.

- Installation of new heavy duty fans in the outdoors- Replacement of all lighting including floor lights, chandeliers, spike lights, focus lights, ceiling lights, and pillar lights with LED lights

- New carpeting at male and female prayer halls, covering an area of 400 sq.m.- Installation of three wall-mounted fans

- Upgraded public announcement system and speakers- Additional mixers, amplifiers and collar microphones - Installation of 22 ceiling fans

- Installation of eight wall-mounted fans

nYour Ramadan roundupThis Ramadan, a variety of events took place across Emaar communities under our campaign, ‘#BuildingCommunities’. Under this initiative, we focused on promoting a responsible society and nurturing a sense of community and solidarity during the Holy Month through a plethora of activities and events which included: • Charity drive: Thanks to your generosity, over 14,000 kilograms of donated clothing was collected across cloth banks located at community mosques and apartment complexes. • Daily Iftars at mosques: Daily Iftars were a regular feature at all our community mosques and prayer halls have been serving up an average of 3,000 Iftar meals in a day. • Serving the Service Providers: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, residents and homeowners came together and served Iftar meals to cleaners, security guards, lifeguards and workers in their community with a true spirit of giving. Held across several communities, fasting and non-fasting residents also came together to share packaged food, fruits and juices with their community workers, cutting across social status and backgrounds.

One of the iconic features in the Emirates Living community is the landscaping that stays lush and green all through summer. This remarkable achievement can be attributed to the several proactive measures that were taken to ensure well-maintained landscaping:

• Diversion and zoning of the irrigation network line and installation of additional valves to maintain uniform pressure during water shortage.

• Ensuring preventive maintenance of irrigation pipes to avoid breakdowns during critical periods.

• Provision for connecting water tankers directly to irrigation mainlines. A selection of more than 20 tapping points were created for connecting water tankers to sub-communities.

• Employing able and efficient companies that can supply water to ensure prompt and timely supply at competitive rates.

Through these initiatives more than 99% of the landscaping was protected. A fact that is clearly evident when you take a walk around the community.

Lush landscaping all through summer

Summer’s here and for many of us that means it’s time for a holiday. Here are few simple things you can do to keep your home safe so you can enjoy yourself, instead of worrying about your villa.

• Start with your doorstep: Nothing is more of a giveaway than newspapers piled outside your door; so put your subscription on hold when you travel. You could also ask a neighbour to remove anything else that gets dropped on your doorstep.

• Keep your lights on: Consider putting some of your lights on a timer so it appears someone’s at home. But if you’re going to do this, make sure you shut the blinds so you’re not obviously lighting up an empty house!

• Don’t spread the word: Limit how many people know you’re leaving. You’ll probably need to set up an out of office message on your work email, but avoid doing the same on personal emails or voicemail.

• Invest in a safe: Use it to store any valuables and important documents that you’re not taking with you. You can buy one at most hardware stores.

• Check your vehicles: Avoid leaving the keys to your car or any other vehicle in obvious places. Remove any valuables stored in your vehicles. For added safety, you could also consider disconnecting the battery.

• Get Contents Insurance: In case of theft, fire or anything unexpected that happens while you’re away, Contents Insurance will cover the contents of your unit such as furniture, electrical appliances, curtains, carpets and paint finishes on walls and ceilings.

• Switch off: Appliances left on standby use electricity all the time, which can add up to a significant amount if you’re going away for several weeks. Turning them off is not only better for the environment but will also eliminate the chance of anything catching fire. Make sure you switch off anything you don’t need.

Last but not least, don’t forget to lock all your doors and windows and make sure taps are switched off. Bon voyage!
