Dearest Officials,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Officials Team of European Forum Pilsen 2015!

My name is Alastair Payne, and I have the honour of presiding the session. If you'll indulge me I'll quickly introduce myself; I'm 24 and I've been involved in EYP since I was 18. Over that time I've seen many changes in the organisation, in the nature of our sessions, and in the topics discussed at our events. I've also seen a radical change in myself and those around me. I believe you are all experienced enough with the European Youth Parlia-ment to understand the kind of transformative effect I'm talking about, and like me, you're probably not sure who you'd have become without your experiences in this organisation.

I want to offer you all the opportunity to go through that expe-rience again, as if it were for the first time. As someone who has attempted to retire on no less than 3 occasions, I've come to re-alise that EYP is in the business of always offering new challeng-es if you're willing to make them for yourself. So at Pilsen 2015 we're going to be trying things a little differently, and you may find them more challenging than you're used to, but I'm confi-dent in each and every one of you to excel in the role you now find yourself in, and rediscover the things that keep you coming back to sessions again and again. And I'll always be there to pick you up when you're feeling down, point you in the right direc-tion, work with you in everything you do, and put a beer in your hand at the end of the day.

Each individual of this team was very carefully selected out of a large number of applicants, but you weren't just selected as individuals, you were selected together to form a team. Each of you has personal qualities I'm counting on to bring out the best in others, and I'm confident that together we can create an envi-ronment our delegates will thrive in, and that we see ourselves develop through.

The one thing I really want to tell you all at the start of this ad-venture together is to remember that long sessions are some of the shortest days of your life. You will be in Pilsen for seven days. You have seven days to work together, to work with the dele-gates, and to create the things you know you need to create. Don't waste that time. You signed up for this session because there was something you wanted to do – so let's go and do it.

Dear Officials,

Let me give you the very first warm welcome to the Officials Team of the European Forum Pilsen 2015. I know that it may sound as a cliché and this is probably mentioned in most of the welcome booklets, but I have to say that I am honestly enormously happy to welcome every single one of you on the team.

I know there is currently a lot of work ahead for all the respective teams, thus I wish you a good luck with the session preparations and hope that once we gather in Pilsen, we could say that everything is ready to kick off a session which would become a highlight of this summer for all participants.

I promise that we, the Organising Team, will do our best in fulfilling all your needs and making the working environment for you as pleasant as possible. Yet I would like to highlight the fact that all of us are on the same team with the same goal and as I am convinced that good coop-eration between CJOs is one of the main factors in making this forum a success, I would like to ask you to keep in mind a motto of the Three Musketeers which summarises my vision of the whole Officials Team very well – in other words “One for all, and all for one“.

If there are any concerns, wishes, questions or anything you are unsure about, be it prior, during or after (probably not years though) the ses-sion, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help you.

I wish you a safe journey to Pilsen and I am very much looking forward to meeting you all soon!

Dear all,

On behalf of the media team, we, the Editors, would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Officials Team of European Forum Pilsen 2015. While our roles may be diverse, we know that our shared vision will guarantee the success of this session.

Our vision is very straightforward, combining autonomy with unity we believe in creating an atmosphere of shared responsibility among all participants. What we get out of this session relies entirely on how much we are willing to put in, and this attitude is shared by our Jour-nalists. Everybody has an equal contribution to make and we envision a session with close overlap between Chairs, Journalists, Organisers, and Delegates. Our Journalists will be pushing for the use of social media, video, and blogging platforms to communicate with Delegates within the session and the wider EYP community outside of Pilsen. We are very open to (and will actively encourage) Chairs’ and Organisers’ teams to contribute to our output, be it through ideas, interviews, or even photographs.

Our Journalists will be free to form working project groups to build on their own ideas and create the content they want shared at the session. While we will provide support and structure to the team, the shape our media output will eventually take is very open. But from what we’ve seen so far we are very excited!

To conclude, we want to reiterate that we believe in unity between all roles at the session. If there is anything our team can do to make your time in Pilsen that bit less payneful then please call in for a chat!

WORDS OF WELCOME BY THE PRESIDENT OF EYP CZ

Dear Officials of European Forum Pilsen 2015,

It is with a feeling of great excitement that I welcome you to the Pils-en team on behalf of EYP Czech Republic. Having looked at the team’s composition, I am convinced that a lot of good work is to be done.

On 13 July 1985 – pretty much exactly 30 years ago – the English band Queen performed during the Live Aid concert in Wembley. (The show is regarded one of the best musical performances in history.) With this anniversary, we can stop for a second and take something from it.

Let us hope that we can experience a true Bohemian Rhapsody this Au-gust in, well, West Bohemia. While there might be plenty opportunities to sit down and enjoy some time with Radio Ga Ga, there might be a Hammer to Fall from time to time, which should always keep us alert. Knowing that there is this Crazy Little Thing Called Love, I am certain we can make the session a lovable experience all in all. Please do not tell the Delegates “We Will Rock You”, but rather keep a positive and open-minded approach to each and every one of them.

The wish of EYP Czech Republic, which hopefully transfers to wishes of you all, is to be able to shout out We Are the Champions following the session’s end. Hopefully, we can make this reality.

PILSENPilsen, a former royal city located in western Bohemia, will be the host city of European Forum Pilsen 2015. Having received the title of the European Capital of Culture 2015 thanks to its rich history as well as other important aspects.

It was founded at the end of the 1st millenium and soon grew to become one of the biggest and most important cities in Bo-hemia (now it is the 4th most populous city in the Czech Repub-lic.) During the times of the Hussite movement, it housed one of the most vociferous parts of the Catholic resistance. One of the milestones of industrialisation of the Czech Lands can also be attributed to Pilsen. The Trojan Chronicle, first printed book in Bohemia and one of the first in the entire world was made here soon after the invention of print. Its legacy still lives in the city’s many booming industries, most notably the Škoda Factory and the brewery with the first pilsner type beer (which is named after the city) the Pilsner Urquell.

St. Bartholomew’s Gothic Cathedral, with the highest tower in the Czech Republic or Moorish Revival Great Synagogue, the second largest synagogue in Europe, prove that Pilsen is also very rich in the area of culture.

SESSION INFOAs already mentioned in the previous part, both culture and in-dustry play a very important role in the city’s past and present and we would like to symbolise their connection by the motto:

CULTURE & INDUSTRY: FORMING NEW DIRECTIONS

We have chosen topics focusing mainly on cultural and tech-nical aspects, or the combination thereof, such as creative industries.

Even though European Forum is a summer session, which can easily turn into a very relaxed event, we would like to ensure that there is still a significant level of academic quality that is well-balanced with the social aspects. Therefore, we are happy to have selected a very competent and experienced Officials’ Team, that should guarantee both the quality, and the EYP spir-it, in order to ensure a well organised and enjoyable event.

COMMITTEE TOPICSCULT | How can the EU influence the education and training of its citizens, as well as their job mobility, in order to ensure a balanced workforce that meets the changing skill demands of the labour market?

INTA | Considering the controversy surrounding the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) with the USA, how should the EU proceed with these talks to ensure a set of measures which benefit EU citi-zens as well as the EU’s economy?

LIBE | With the threat of mass surveillance, censorship and cybercrime looming, how should the EU reform its legislation concerning the Internet, digital media and digital communications, in order to protect the rights and liberties of its citizens, whilst ensuring national se-curity and continuing to foster economic growth and innovation?

DROI | With current migration mechanisms failing both for the vulnerable seeking refuge and the Member States attempting to accommodate them, how should the EU and Member States adjust their stance on refu-gees and asylum seekers in order to fulfil their humani-tarian duty to the people fleeing their home countries?

ECON | In the aftermath of the Greek default and with rising tensions in the Eurozone, how can the EU reform the legislation around the Euro, and what measures should be taken in order to secure the future of the shared currency?

IMCO | New Industry: The “sharing economy” is a mod-ern phenomenon, where consumer choice has out-paced consumer protection legislation. How should the EU respond to calls for increased regulation on ser-vices such as Uber and AirBnB, and should protections be put in place for the incumbent businesses being dis-placed?

ITRE | From Fracking to Fission: What energy mix should the EU and Member States aim for in order to best meet the demand for energy security, whilst also respecting environmental and economic concerns?

EVENTSEUROCONCERTEYP is home to many talented people, but at most sessions the only talents a person can show are hard work, good ideas and public speeches. But we believe that those are not the only amazing things you can do. Therefore, we included this event to provide you with a platform to show the others your passion for art. Anyone can participate and the only thing you have to do is tell us (you will get the infor-mation in an email), bring your instrument or other proprieties and get ready!

COMMITTEE DINNERSWhile the Teambuilding, Committee Work and Gen-eral Assembly are very enjoyable parts of EYP, it is nice to be less formal for a while and blow off steam while chit-chatting with your old and new friends over a lovely meal in many of Pilsen’s restaurants along with your committee and other participants.

EYP WORKSHOPSAs this session might be a breaking point for Dele-gates to decide whether to continue with EYP and start applying for sessions as Officials or not, we de-cided to organise workshops led mainly by experi-enced Board Members of EYP CZ who would expose them a bit of the work of CJOs as well as explain the function of EYP International.

THEME PARTYDirections party! Regarding the session motto, we invite you to Directions Party. Either dress like a pointer or a member of One Direction. You can make a map costume or represent a compass. Take everything you can out of the session motto. Cul-ture & Industry? Be a working class Da Vinci!

ACCOMMODATIONAll participants will be accommodated in Domov mládeže VOŠ a SPŠE Plzeň in double or triple bed rooms. Moreover, the accom-modation is just next to our venue for the Teambuilding and Committee Work.

GENERAL ASSEMBLYThe last part of the session will be held in the Town Hall of the City of Pilsen. This hall is used for meetings of the municipal govern-ment of the City of Pilsen thus it will com-pletely fit to all the GA needs.

VENUES

ARRIVING IN PRAGUE BY PLANE AND/OR TRAVELLING TO PILSEN BY BUS?There is a regular bus line no. 100 which departs from the Terminals of the Václav Hav-el Airport Prague. Buy a ticket for the bus in one of the tick-et machines – the ticket costs 24 CZK (approx. €1). Keep in mind that the vast majority of the ticket machines accept CZK (coins) only, so please make sure that you have Czech Crowns. It would then take you around 15-20 minutes to reach the Zličín Bus Station (Prague, Zličín), which is one of the Prague‘s most impor-tant bus stations that connects Prague with many other cities and towns.

There you board one of the buses of the company Stu-dent Agency (big yellow bus-es) in the direction to Pilsen – the ticket for the bus to Pilsen can be bought either from the driver (please bear in mind that not all the drivers speak English and this option is valid only if there are free seats in the bus) or at jizdenky.stu-dentagency.cz, which we rec-ommend (the website can be switched into English and EUR) and costs 100 CZK (approx. €4). The journey takes exact-ly 1 hour and the bus will take you directly to Pilsen with no stops in between. Get off at Pilsen Central Bus Station (Plzeň, CAN).

ARRIVING IN PRAGUE BY PLANE AND/OR TRAVELLING TO PILSEN BY TRAIN?At the airport, get on one of the Airport Express (AE) buses, the bus stops every 30 minutes by the Airport Terminals and goes directly to the Prague Main Train Station (Hlavní nádraží). The ticket for the bus can be bought from the driv-er and it costs 60 CZK (ap-prox. €2.5). The journey takes about 33 minutes.

When you get to the Prague Main Train Station, get on a train in the directon to Pilsen (Plzeň), which departs every hour. The tickets for the train can be bought either at the Czech Railways E-shop www.cd.cz/eshop (the website can be switched into English and EUR) or at the cash desk at the Station. The ticket for the train costs 100 CZK (approx. €4) and the journey takes about 1 hour 45 minutes. For further information concerning your travel by train, please consult www.idos.cz (the website can be switched into English).

TRAVELLING TO PILSEN FROM SOME OTHER LOCA-TION?There is also an option to travel to Pilsen from Munich, Germa-ny. A regular train connection is provided from Munich Main Train Station (München Hbf) directly to Pilsen Main Train Station (Plzeň hl.n.). For more information, please consult www.idos.cz (the website can be switched into English).

Worth mentioning is also the fact that www.idos.cz can be used to find any connection within the Czech Republic, so feel free to use it at any time.

We fully understand that planning a journey to the European Capital of Culture might be a bit complicated. For that particular reason we have prepared a Travel Guide for you, so you shall not worry.

The City of Pilsen is one of the key crossroads of all the traffic in the Czech Republic. It is possible to travel to the city by train, bus or car from a wide variety of places and there are thousands and thousands of people travelling through/to the city on a daily basis. Any decision you make, please always bear in mind that you are supposed to ar-rive in Pilsen by 10 August 2015 12:00 pm CEST (noon) at the very latest.
