ARTY-FARTY TRIVIA PARTY WINNERS

FAMDA recently hosted its third Arty-Farty Trivia Party with a birthday theme at the Foster Arts Centre.

All guests were offered a cup cake complete with candle and got to sing “Happy Birthday to FAMDA” along with HeartStrings’ Natalie Burrow and John Laurie who provided musical entertainment throughout the night.

Quizmaster, Andrew Oldroyd, assembled an amazing mix of intriguing questions which even included a round called “Sixty” in recognition of FAMDA’s 60th birthday which will be celebrated in November this year.

This year the winning table was organised by Sue Alsop with Jackie and Richard Dargaville, Peter Thomson and Bernadette Thomson, Peter and Anne Latreille, Michael and Anne Strong and Mark Alsop taking home a great selection of prizes generously provided by local businesses.

There was a colouring competition which was won by the folk from the Foster Pharmacy table.

Noted children’s author and illustrator, Alison Lester, generously donated a signed print of the illustration created for the cover of her ‘Magic Beach’. This proved a very eagerly sought raffle prize which was won by Arie Bos.

Patricia Wrighton won Opera Australia tickets. Leeanne Woods was the lucky winner of the Musica Viva prize. Tanya Pell did well, winning both the Melbourne Theatre Company and the Heide Museum vouchers while Jennifer Paragreen won the Melbourne Museum prize. Other raffle winners included Agatha Carrafa, Tara Hendry, Greg Mattingley, Mike Street and Robert Paragreen.

FAMDA wishes to thank the local sponsors who provided prizes, Ahern’s Fruit Market and Fine Foods, Foster IGA, Foster Pharmacy, Foster Seafood, Glenn’s Sports and Gifts, Golden Creek Olives, Larkrise Soaps, Main Street Revelations, Marieke Ormsby Photography, OK Pizza & Pasta, Prom Coast Film Society, Prom Meats and the South Gippsland One Act Play Festival for their much appreciated contribution to the occasion.

Join the Prom Coast Film Society The Society runs screenings at 8:00pm on the first Friday of each month at Fish Creek Hall.

The next film on 5 April is Take This Waltz, a 2011 Canadian romantic comedy-drama.

The film centres on Margot, a 28 year old freelance writer who lives in a charming house on a leafy street in Toronto's Little Portugal neighbourhood, as she struggles with and examines her feelings for Lou, her husband of five years, while exploring a new relationship with Daniel, an artist and rickshaw driver who lives across the street.

This is the second full length film directed by Sarah Polley. Cast includes Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman and Luke Kirby.

PCFS operates under the rules of the Victorian Film Society and attendees at films must be subscribers. This year subscription prices have been reduced to $60 for an annual subscription or $25 for a quarterly one which runs for three consecutive months.

Single entry is not available due to copyright restrictions on film societies. Members may request a guest pass if they would like to bring along a friend.

This is very cheap movie-going and you will be surrounded by other enthusiastic supporters in a welcoming setting. To add to the social atmosphere Windy Ridge Winery sells local wine and fruit juice by the glass at each screening. Supper is served at the conclusion of the film (a donation applies) so you can meet others and socialise.

FAMDA CELEBRATES ITS 60th BIRTHDAY IN NOVEMBER

Leading into the birthday celebrations, FAMDA is in the process of updating its history.

The letters of FAMDA’s name originally stood for Films, Art, Music & Drama Association.

FAMDA is therefore keen to hear from people who have early memories of FAMDA, as

participants in any of FAMDA’s early activities—film screenings, the art group, musicians, those

who attended in the record evenings held in private homes as well as performers and audience

members for FAMDA productions.

FAMDA would love you to share your reminiscences. Please contact Edwin Coad 589 1305 or

[email protected] to arrange for one of our historians to get in touch with you.
