educational technology in 21st century
DESCRIPTION
why educational technology is important in teaching learning processes in 21st century?TRANSCRIPT
Before starting with the
terminology, I want to share a video
with you…
I hope you will watch it carefully and
recall the way you have studied…
Hello friends, I am VISION…
Only chalk, board and a boring lecture…
No interaction,
No participation,
No enthusiasm,
No technology…
What kind of technology we
require in education???
Its educational technology…
Lets understand it…
Educational technology, sometimes
termed EdTech or Learning
Technology, is the study and ethical
practice of facilitating learning and
improving performance by creating, using
and managing appropriate technological
processes and resources.
According to the Association for Educational
Communications and Technology (AECT)
Definitions and Terminology Committee,
Educational Technology includes other systems used in
the process of developing human capability. Educational
technology includes, but is not limited to, software,
hardware, as well as Internet applications, such as wikis
and blogs, and activities. But there is still debate on
what these terms mean.
So, according to me, educational technology includes all the teaching learning aid…
For e.g.: chalk, black board, charts, flash cards, activities, play ground, computer, radio, internet, interactive board, open sources etc…
But
Are they sufficient in teaching learning process in 21st century??
And if yes, Are we using them properly???
Lets find answers for all the questions above…
Why am I
talking about
21st century???
We needs to understand why we are stressing over 21st century education.
For this, I wants to show you a video about the kids we are going to teach in a very near future…
Hello friends, I am rationality
So here, we are going to teach children of 21st
century…
Techno savvy
Techno lover
Techno freak…
This generation children are considered as digital natives…
Why we need to use technology in the
new era of
education???
Is it a new trend in teaching learning process?
Wasn’t it required before???
Lets see one more video
Vision and then our many
questions will be answered…
Use of technology*
In education is an
ancient time
practice…
*Only the products are changed…
So, What does it mean???
Are we dependent on
technology to teach???
If teachers can provide only• Content
• Fact
• Dates
• Formulae
•Research
• Theories
• Stories• Information
Then our role in lives of students will no more be
important…
Students can find Information
Anytime
Anywhere
On Anything
Virtually, limitless information is available to students under the sun…
WWW means:
Teachers are not the only source of
information
So???
TEACHER
How should we teach students to handle these resources???
Everyone
know
how to
use
search
engines…
Children learn to operate computers at a very young age
But , Where are they learning from???
•Friends?•Strangers?
•Themselves???
But has anyone told them how to:
• Validate information?
•Synthesize information?
•Leverage information?
•Communicate information?
•Collaborate with information?
•Solve problem with
information?
And what about
•Responsibility???
•Reliability???
•Truthfulness?
Create your own cyber products for your students or may be open to all and motivate
students to use your products online/offline…
What is the solution???
Own cyber products…
Time &
Resources???
If we will focus on the objectives
mentioned before then who is going
to cover our syllabus???
And
How is it going to follow our
curriculum???
With all the information
available on internet,
should our curriculum be
focused on
facts and contents or
skills?
VS
What is the requirement
of skills in curriculum???
It’s the need of time…
In Hotels
Higher Education & Research
In Hospitals
In Government Jobs like Railways
In Engineering
In RealEstate
In Music
In Defense In Social Relationships
In Sports and Games
In Environment
In AstronomyIn Astrology
Blooms taxonomy picture
Present version
Old version
Requirement of future
Create…
What does create mean
today???
CREATE WHAT???
We need to rethink
the tools we use and
the types of problems
we ask students to
solve…
How do we manage laptops ,cell phones, mp3 player,
internet connections in the class room?
The same way we managepaper charts, books, pencil box, flash cards etcin the class room…
But, These gadgets are not good
for behavioral changes of students….
The tools provides
temptations,
but they are not the
source of negative
behavior…
Any lesson you create, no matter what tools are used,Has to be…
•Relevant
•Engaging
•Challenging
Remember…Students do not need to be entertained…They need to be engaged…
Agreed???
Our charge, as a facilitator, is to provide
Meaningful Engagement
So from where does it start???
See what's out there…
Find some sites
www.mathszone.co.ukwww.mathgoodies.comwww.nrich.maths.orgwww.counton.org
www.ipracticemaths.com
Try some software
GeogebraMathematicaMatlab
Math blasterCompu-math:fractionmathFacts in a flash
Mathtype
And a lot more…
Do some re-search
There are loads many topics in mathematics which are untouched by the books and syllabus written in our
curriculum. Perhaps such topics are quite interesting and creative. Try to find such topics and inculcate
them in our students…
Few examples are:SudokuCalcuro
Number PatternsMathematical games
Tessellations…
What to do with these all now???
Take first step small…Have a start: Change can not occur
Without conflicts. Try something and
see what happen
Collaborate: Don’t do it alone… Plan together and
discuss what others have found useful
Relate: If you will find it useful for 21st century learner,
so you can motivate the learner to move further…
And remember the big picture
o No matter what content you teacho No matter what skills you teacho No matter what subject you teach
What matter is the question,
What does it mean to teaching in new era???
TEACHING IN
NEW ERA
