Kinder Enrolments and Orientation Program

Places are filling fast for enrolment in Kindergarten 2014. If you have a child or

know of a child who will turn 5 on or before 31st July 2014 and wishes to enrol in

Kindergarten please contact the school and collect an “application to enrol” form.

The Orientation program starts next Thursday the 15th at 10am in the library. We

are looking forward to meeting all the new parents.

Thank You Merewether Thank you to all the parents that attended on Open Day and showed their support for the children and staff at MPS. Your cakes were much appreciated. The cake stall and disco raised over $1000. A big thank you to all the staff who did a fabulous job running the school disco. I think we all agree that it was one of the best we have had. It was great to see infants and primary children mixing together to have such a great time. Who would have believed that Miss Woodward could do 5 full somersaults the length of the hall or that Miss Steele was a face painting expert? Cyber Safety

A note was sent home yesterday to all parents inviting them to attend an

informative talk on cyber safety and children. I would encourage parents to

attend this session as it is a subject that effects all families. It can be difficult to

keep up with all the new and challenging developments in social media and

technology in general. If you are interested in attending please complete the

reply slip and return to the office.

New School Website

Our new school website went live last week with the web address of http://www.merewether-p.schools.nsw.edu.au. This site will be regularly updated with school news, events, photos and newsletters. It is also a great way to access the school Moodle via the link on the homepage. Check it out today to see some fantastic photos from last Thursday’s disco and Education Week! The old website is still currently available but will shut down in the next couple of weeks. A big thank you to Jacqui Clancy for the great photos on the site.

P & C News Christmas Raffle During Term 4 the P&C will be holding a special Christmas Raffle. Business that donate $100 will have their name advertised on the back of the news letter. Fathers Day Breakfast The P&C will be once again running the Fathers Day breakfast on Friday the 30th of August. Coffee, tea, bacon and egg buns– yum! Please mark this in your diary. Mums can have the morning free as Dad and the kids will be taken care of. Uniform –Skirt Special Sale Due to a back log of new skirts in the school office uniform shop the P&C are holding a mark down sale on skirts. The skirts with a pocket will be $25 and without a pocket $15. The P&C would appreciate your support if you are at the stage of needing a new one for your child. Zone Athletics Congratulations Imogen McInnes and Isaac McTackett. Both children did very well at the zone athletics and will represent the school at the regional carnival– next stop State! Dance Groups Dance with Ms Karlee will now be held on Wednesday rather than Tuesday. It will operate on the same timetable.

The Environmental Officer from New-

castle City Council will be coming to talk about recycling to years 2-6 on

Thursday 22nd August. We have

been looking at the properties of rocks and minerals in our library work

and recycling uses magnetism as one of their sorting techniques.
