HOW I CAME UP WITH THIS INQUIRY QUESTION• Through Personal

Reflection• My own evolution:

Past, Present, and Future.

• Wanting to acknowledge every student’s differences• This can only be

done by having each voice heard.

HOW THIS CAN BE PROBLEMATIC

• Students are not participating in activities

• Students have the opinions they are just to afraid to voice them

• Can be stigmatized as not caring

• Limiting their potential

How can we as educators foster a positive classroom dynamic that encourages inclusion and participation among shy, self-conscious learners?

SIGNIFICANCE OF ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE

• Ensures that all students are able to reach their greatest potential

• Murber’s article: The Role of Personal Attributes and Social Support Factors on Passive Behaviour in Classroom among Secondary Students: A Prospective Study the author states that, “for those who display an inhibited and/or passive behaviour, it can be difficult to attain full potential academic achievement and to make use of social opportunities that are available”

• Our duty as teachers to make sure that our material reaches every student. • Encourages teachers to make lesson plans

more engaging

PLANS OF ACTION

Promotion of Self-Esteem

• Reaffirming the characteristic traits of your students by promoting confidence.

• Rewarding good work on assignments and or when students go out of their way to do something positive

PLANS OF ACTIONSparking Passion

• If there is engaging material, then students will feel passionate about speaking up.

• Important to keep in mind the usage of getting into small groups and coming back together as a whole to ensure that all voices are heard.

PLANS OF ACTION

Creating a safe classroom environment

• Involving more peer activities that involve leadership and mentorship of some kind.

• Creating positive relationships with your students so they do not feel frightened to come to you for advice.• Also, this ensures that

when they do feel like speaking up in class, they do not feel like their ideas are uncared for.

• Checking-in, one-on-ones

FUTURE RESEARCH

• Gathering more testimonials of people I know and their experiences with combating their own shyness in high school.

• Coming up with more activities that encourages participation among all students. • Evaluating the

effectiveness of each activity.

• Figuring out if forced public speaking is beneficial?
