Did You Know? Interesting Factoids About the Human Body..!!

15,000 times a day. Women blink twice as much as men.

You’ll drink about 76,000 litres of water in your lifetime. A person can live without food for a month, but only about a week without water.

Around 5000 years ago the average man stood 165cm tall. Today, the average height for an Australian man is 178cm, compared to 175cm for British, and 182cm for the Dutch (tallest country).

The human head contains 22 bones.

Your heart beats 101,000 times a day. During your lifetime it will beat about 3 billion times.

Fingernails grow nearly 4 times faster than toenails.

We actually do not see with our eyes—we see with our brains. The eyes basically are the cameras of the brain. One-quarter of the brain is used to control the eyes.

The muscle that lets your eye blink is the fastest muscle in your body. It allows you to blink 5 times a second. On average, you blink

1. Most fruits are naturally low in fat, sodium, and calories. None have cholesterol.

2. Fruit consists for the largest part of water. Just like the human body does.

3. Fruit is the most natural food. 4. Dietary fiber from fruits, as part of an

overall healthy diet, helps reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower risk of heart disease. Fiber-containing foods such as fruits help provide a feeling of fullness with fewer calories. (Whole or cut-up fruits are sources of dietary fiber; fruit juices contain littler or no fiber.)

5. Vitamin C is important for growth and repair of all body tissues, helps heal cuts and wounds, and keeps teeth and gums healthy.

6. Eating a diet rich in fruits (and vegetables) as part of an overall healthy diet may protect certain cancers such as mouth, stomach, and colon-rectum

cancer. 7. Fruits are important sources of many

nutrients, including potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin C, and folate (folic acid).

8. Diets rich in potassium may help maintain healthy blood pressure, and also may help to decrease bone loss. Fruit sources of potassium include bananas, prunes and prune juice, peaches and apricots, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, and or-anges.

9. Fruit is not as expensive as you may think. Take a good look at how much money you spend on other processed foods (per serving), it could be worth something to replace some of those with fruit.

10. Fruit stimulates our memories. Fruit is the ultimate brain food, having a positive effect on our brains and making recall of information easier and faster...

“10 Reasons To Eat More Fruit”

The Top 10 Fruits Ever wonder which fruit is healthiest? Blueberries rank the highest, according to USDA scientists. They contain more disease-fighting antioxidants per 1-cup serving than any other fruit. Check out the rest of the top 10, and note one additional measurement: total antioxidants per calorie. Cranberries have the highest score in this category, containing the most antioxidants

for fewer calories.

(DRUM ROLL PLEASE!..)

“…….I love a challenge – so when I was told a few months ago in a general lunchtime work discussion that once I hit my 35th birthday everything would go downhill and that I would struggle to lose weight, it gave me my long awaited motivation to prove them wrong! I am the traditional women’s mag story – Over my entire adult life I have tried every diet in the book, joined gyms, bought all the late night TV “guaranteed to work or your money back” gadgets and machines. Once again I found myself struggling with my relationship with the scales and looking for that “magic fix”. A few months into my 35th year, I was beginning to think that my work colleague might have been right. One day my son brings home a school newsletter, with an advert for Zumba. I checked out the website and decided to give it a try. Best decision I have ever made. I am HOOKED!!! I’ll admit at first it was hard – didn’t know anyone, didn’t know the routines - my initial motivation was direct debit; “I’ve paid so I might as well get my moneys worth!”. Now though, I see regular smiley faces and whoops, I have my favourite routines and I go because I have so much fun!! I look forward to it. I am singing the songs at work, doing the meringue while walking the dogs, and trying to persuade anyone who will listen to give it a try. It’s not just the rhythm that’s addictive – the Zumba philosophy is what makes this different as well. Amy’s regular newsletters, free gifts and monthly calendar reminders really make you feel cared for, and her encouraging smile and technique classes at ease. She’s always willing to go that extra mile to make sure her Zumbaholics are happy! Then there is Jason, her lovely hubby, who has diligently studied my weekly food diaries, has encouraged me on the way and not made me feel guilty for my occasional indulgences. He’s also devised a specially tailored diet plan, and while it is still early days, I can already feel the difference in my energy levels and general “wellbeing”. Having said all that, the BEST thing about finding Zumba is that I feel great, I feel healthy, and the weight loss is now just an added bonus, not the main focus. So far I’ve lost about 5kgs, and I’m looking forward to being able to remind that work colleague of her words! My advice to fellow zumbaholics – A POSITIVE ATTITUDE IS A POWERFUL FORCE, so if you want something, act like you already have it! – Oh, and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something!....” - Tracey Taylor

Tracy has won herself a dinner for two at the lovely Moods Restaurant in Berwick…. Enjoy!! xx

Hi there Zumbaholics!

My name is Amy Smith, as well as

a qualified personal trainer and I

am YOUR Zumba certified

instructor! Although I don't have a

latin heritage, or extensive dance

background…. I know one thing… I

AM ABSOLUTELY CRAZY ABOUT

ZUMBA! But, you know health and

fitness hasn’t always been my

passion ether…

After struggling with my own

weight and self image for many

years, I studied to become a

qualified personal trainer. In my

search for the most effective way to

lose weight I have seen and taken part in so many different

exercise programs, that I have lost count! Since stumbling

across Zumba.. I can honestly say.... OH..MY..GOD!

Finally!!!!!! It is seriously the most amount of fun you can

have while exercising! We all love to dance right! :) And its

funny, as an avid rock and 80’s music fan… I never realized

how much I love Latin music and Zumba-ing… I even Zumba

when I drive! Yes…. It’s true!! …….

xx Amy Smith
