Demonstrate an understanding of addition of numbers with answers to 20 and their corresponding subtraction facts, concretely, pictorially and symbolically, by:• using familiar mathematical language to describe additive and subtractive actions• creating and solving problems in context that involve addition and subtraction• modeling addition and subtraction, using a variety of concrete and visual
representations, and recording the process symbolically.
ICT: P.3 - Students will communicate through multimedia.Specific Outcomes :1.2 create visual images by using such tools as paint and draw programs for particular audiences and purposes.

Time Teaching PointsTeaching PointsTeaching Points Notes9:00 am A.S. - Put a pack of smarties on each student’s desk to
get their interest. The pack of smarties will be used for addition problems in the lesson.
Input: Introduce the addition equation. 7 (addend) + (plus sign) 1 (addend) = (equals sign) 8 (sum); addend + addend = sum. Children must learn the process of addition of numbers with answers to 20.
Modeling & Guided Practice: Use the Smart Document Camera to demonstrate adding problems.
Independent Practice: Write a series of questions on the board to see if the students understand the process by continuing using the smarties.
Peer Teaching:Also encourage children to help each other.
Checking for Understanding: Walk around the classroom to see if any students need further instruction
Closure: We will play a game using Kid Pix that involves answering the questions and each table will be a team. The first group who solves the addition problem will get a point. The winners will get to line up for Art class first.
