NEW YORK — “High School Musical” star Van-essa Hudgens will get a summer vacation — her Broadway show “Gigi” is closing.

Hudgens made her Broadway debut in the title role but the reviews were poor and the box office never soared. It will play its final show June 21 after about 100 performances.

“Gigi,” set in Paris at the turn of the last century, comes from Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Lowe. It centers on a teenage girl being groomed to serve as a mistress until she falls in love.

The show only earned one Tony nomination, for Victoria Clark. Last week, the Neil Simon Theatre, where the show plays, was barely half-full and the show earned only 30 percent of its $1.3 million potential. (ap)

LOS ANGELES - The dinosaurs are bigger, the rides are scarier and there’s a dashing new leading pair as the main attraction: “Jurassic World” is open for business again and hoping to entice a new generation used to get-ting more bang for its movie buck.

The film, out in U.S. theaters on Friday, revives the classic sci-fi ac-tion franchise that began with Steven Spielberg making dinosaurs come to life in 1993’s “Jurassic Park.”

But two decades on, as Bryce Dal-las Howard’s Claire slyly says in the film, no one is excited about seeing a dinosaur anymore. Yawn.

That’s why the theme park in which “Jurassic World” is set needs to amp up the danger for visitors drawn by the adrenaline-fueled experience of getting up close and personal with dinosaurs.Mirroring the film’s attempt to reboot an old franchise with more thrills, the park has hatched a new hybrid creature attraction, the bigger, badder Indominus Rex, created in a lab from a test tube mix of dinosaurs.

But the monster has a mind of her own, and as fans of the original fran-chise have learned, never turn your back on a dinosaur. “Good science fiction always holds a mirror up to cur-rent events, to our humanity,” director Colin Trevorrow told Reuters.

“The Indominus Rex is a product of a desire for profit at all costs, and that very corporate need is something that can do a lot of harm and really compromise our ethics and humanity

in ways that we’ve seen consistently played out over time.”

Made for $150 million by Comcast Corp-owned Universal Pictures, “Ju-rassic World” is projected to earn $121 million in its opening weekend, mak-ing it one of the year’s biggest debuts, according to BoxOffice.com.

To play raptor trainer Owen, ac-tor Chris Pratt said he embraced the “swagger” of the hero of one of Spiel-berg’s most recognizable films: rogue archeologist Indiana Jones.

“You don’t have to necessarily remake ‘Indiana Jones’ to play that character,” he said. “He’s an adven-turer, he’s got a contentious relation-ship with the woman who’s his polar opposite. This whole movie is very much an homage to Steven Spielberg’s work.”Trevorrow, directing his first big-budget film, said he was eager to twist character archetypes, with Pratt’s Owen initially playing a classic hero to Howard’s uptight and immaculately groomed Claire.

It is Claire, however, who Trevor-row said drives the film.

“I consider her the lead but it isn’t necessarily reflected that way in the marketing,” he said. The film’s cam-paign has focused on Pratt, a newly minted leading man with last year’s hit film, “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

“When you would imagine the tra-ditional hero to be the one riding in on his white horse and saving the woman who’s cowering with the children, we did it differently.” (rtr)

LONDON - A joint concert by pop diva Lady Gaga and veteran crooner Tony Bennett was cancelled at the last minute Tuesday because the 88-year-old was “taken ill”, London’s Royal Albert Hall an-nounced.

Just as the performance was due to begin, the iconic concert hall revealed on social media that it had been axed.

“We’re very sorry to say that tonight’s concert has been cancelled due to Tony Bennett being taken ill. Apologies to disappointed fans,” the Royal Albert Hall Twitter ac-count wrote.

“We will contact all ticket-hold-

ers as soon as we have any more information. We would also like to wish Tony a speedy recovery.”

Bennett, an American singer whose signature tune is “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”, later explained he was suffering from influenza.

“Sorry to not be singing in London tonight,” Bennett wrote on Twitter. “I love my fans in the UK and appreciate all the well wishes to get over this flu quickly.”

US Singer songwriter Lady Gaga, whose hits “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance” have topped charts around the world, reassured fans.

“Hey everybody! Don’t worry

about Tony, he’s OK! That’s just showbiz sometimes. We’ll catch u next time, we got you!” she wrote on Twitter.

It was the second of two concerts the pair were due to hold in support of WellChild, a charity that supports seriously ill children.

Ahead of Monday’s perfor-mance, the two had joked together in front of press.

Charity patron Prince Harry told Bennett “I can’t believe you have the energy I don’t know how you do it.”

Lady Gaga, 29, laughed and replied: “He runs circles round me.” (afp)

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebra-tion of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beau-tifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beauti-fully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

SEMArAPUrA - Water is-sues remains a problem for farm-ers at Subak Tohpati, Banjarang-kan, Klungkung who still do not all have access to enough water for their agricultural lands. Of the five subgroups (tempek) of the local subak, there are two subgroups namely the Gerembeng and Bedugul with an area of 35 hectares that are face the threat of drought because the water bridge along 20 meters at Selau Dam has been disconnected. Chief of the Tohpati Subak, Nengah Sudana, spoke of this problem on Tuesday (Jun. 9).

From the office of the regent of Klungkung on Tuesday afternoon, Sudana explained that he had sent a letter to the regent of Klungkung related to this issue. In the letter, Sudana wrote that the members of the Tohpati Subak are asking for help from the Public Works Agency to survey the Selau Dam that irrigates the subak area of two subgroups (Gerembeng and Bedugul) who have been cut off from their supply of water by the disconnected water bridge. “The water bridge made out of palm tree was set in place ten years ago and has become damaged,”

said Sudana.According to Sudana, the re-

quest to repair the water bridge was discussed in a meeting with subak members, on Wednesday (Jun. 27). Subak members pro-posed that the water bridge be permanently repaired because these two subgroups depend on it to irrigate their rice paddies which cover an area of some 35 hectares. “We have been able to access some water form the Undisan River but it is not enough for our needs,” he said.

Besides, the members of Subak Tohpati, said Sudana added that

the tohpati Supak are great sup-porters of President Jokowi’s pro-gram of improving food security, through their production of rice. Moreover, if the water bridge can be made permanent it will allow them to cultivate 15 more hectares of land. They will thus be able to full fill the rice reduction target of 6 tons per hectare. “Currently local farmers can produce four tons of rice per hectare. With this improvement, we expect that rice production can reach the target of 6 tons per hectare,” he said.

Sudana added that currently the area of Subak Tohpati covers 65

hectares. It spreads over five sub-groups namely the Gerembeng, Bedugul, Padang Luah, Kualon and Abian Salak. Farmers from the Gerembeng and Bedugul sub-groups have been relying on the water supply from Undisan River. while the three other subgroups rely on water from Tembuku Bangli. Despite relying on the water from another county, the water discharge for the three sub-groups has not been problematic. Tohpati subak has 290 members, 90 of whom are active while the remaining 200 members are no longer active. (kmb)

“The large number of new drug users are the target of our rehabilita-tion program,” said the Rehabilita-tion Division Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Bali, N. Artana, during a meeting held about strengthening and encouraging the rehabilitation of drug users with the rehabilitation institution community on Friday (Jun. 5) at the BNN Den-pasar. Similar figures were revealed for the number of non-injecting drug addicts that increased to 16,403.

Such conditions are very worry-ing. Without being controlled and without their being information disseminated about the hazards of drugs, the situation will obviously be detrimental to families, the com-munity, and the country. Moreover, the increase in new users is difficult to ascertain with certainty. “When using drugs, they are in indeed hid-ing, however their behaviour can be an indicator,” he said.

The national target is to rehabili-tate 100,000 addicts, and the BNN is given the task to rehabilitate 75,000 of them. Bali is targeting the rehabilitation of 2,083 addicts. In Bali, there are four BNN institutions namely the BNNP, County Narcot-ics Agency (BNK) Gianyar, BNK Badung and BNN Denpasar. “This year Bali targets the rehabilitation to 520 addicts,” he said. So far, 16 addicts have been rehabilitated; 8 of

them through the BNN and the other 8 through foundations,” he said.

Today, addicts do not have to go to Lido, Badako, Tanah Merah or Batam, to access rehabilitation fa-cilities, because Bali itself has many rehabilitation clinics such as the one at the Bangli Mental Hospital. In addition, Bali also has six other agencies that are under obligation (IPWL) to provide treatment to addicts: the Kuta I health center, PTRM Sandat of Sanglah Hospital, Ubud II health center, Tabanan III health center, the Bali Police Bhayangkara Hospital and Abian-semal health center. The BNN also works with foundations that have inpatient and outpatient facilities. If the health facility is considered adequate, the BNN who has been coordinating with police will open a rehabilitation centre at the state police school in Singaraja that can accommodate approximately 50-100 people. The Military Command is also cooperating by providing re-hab at the Military Regional Main Regiment in Tabanan, to follow up the cooperation with the head of central BNN with the TNI. “So, we are very grateful because the reha-bilitation centre is close by and this opportunity must be utilized much as possible,” he said.

Alarming increase in new drugs usersDENPASAr - The results of research conducted by the cen-

tral National Narcotics Agency in Bali between 2011 and 2014 found that new drug users had increased by more than 100 percent with 16, 054 users recorded for 2011 and a staggering 36,546 people in 2014.

on the contrary, never sleeping as if they are really diligent. “And if it leads to significant matters such skipping school, being absent from work, withdrawing from social interactions or only interacting with particular people, then we should increase our alertness,” he explained.

Not all of the 2,083 addicts need to be hospitalized in other to be treated, as some can be treated through outpatient services. “Those suffering more severe addiction must be hospitalized, otherwise it will not be effective” added Artana. All 2,083 addicts can be reached done as long as there is communica-

tion, and the active participation of communities in reporting the cases to the BNN so that the level of ad-diction to illegal drugs can be evalu-ated. “To determine the level of addiction, an assessment interview is conducted involving a physician, apsychologist and a counselor,” he explained. If further work validates the findings, there could be major gains for campaigns to vaccinate young women in poor countries, the authors said.

The research looked at Cervarix, which with another vaccine, Gar-dasil, is being rolled out to shield young girls from the human papil-lomavirus (HPV) which causes cervical cancer.

Cervarix is a so-called bivalent vaccine, targeting two types of virus -- HPV 16 and 18 -- that together are to blame for about 70 percent of cases.

The vaccine was initially ap-proved to be given in three doses over six months, although some countries have cautiously switched to a two-dose schedule.

The new research, published in the journal The Lancet Oncology, suggests that this easier regimen could be taken even further.

The authors reported on an as-pect of two big trials to test Cervarix

among 7,500 women in Costa Rica aged 18-25 and more than 18,500 women aged 15-25 in the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas.

Women in these trials were randomly assigned to receiving either Cervarix in three doses, or a hepatitis A vaccine.

However, 543 of the women in the Cervarix group only received one dose, mainly because their vaccination was discontinued due to pregnancy.

Four years after the trial took place, the researchers checked the health of the volunteers.

They found there was no differ-ence in cancer rates among those who had received Cervarix, regard-less of the number of doses they had received.

The authors, led by Cosette Wheeler of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, call for a new randomised study to see if these findings hold true on a larger scale and beyond just four years.

If the good news is confirmed, the big beneficiaries would be poor countries.

Cervical cancer is notoriously called a “silent killer” of women. It is the fourth commonest cause of cancer among women, and tragi-cally is often diagnosed too late.

“If one dose is sufficient, it could reduce vaccination and adminis-tration costs as well as improve uptake,” said co-author Aimee Kreimer of the US National Cancer Institute.

“This is especially important in less developed regions of the world, where more than 80 percent of cer-vical cancer cases occur.”

HPV is easily spread by sexual intercourse.

In addition to cervical cancer, it can also cause genital warts and cancer of the anus and penis. For that reason, doctors in the United States and other countries recom-mend pre-teens of both sexes be vaccinated. (afp)

PARIS - Artistic creativity may share genetic roots with schizophrenia and bipolar dis-order, according to a study pub-lished on Monday.

The research, published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, delves into a well-known genetic database -- the deCODE library of DNA codes derived from samples provided by the popula-tion of Iceland.

The authors first compared genetic and medical data from 86,000 Icelanders, establishing a DNA signature that pointed to a doubled risk for schizophrenia and an increase of a third for bipolar disorder.

The next step was to look at the genomes of people engaged in artistic work.

Those samples came from more than 1,000 volunteers who were members of Iceland’s national societies of visual arts, theatre, dance, writing and music.

Members of these organisa-tions were 17 percent likelier

than non-members to have the same genetic signature, the study found.

The finding was supported by four studies in the Netherlands and Sweden covering around 35,000 people, comparing indi-viduals in the general public and those in artistic occupations.

Those investigations used somewhat different parameters but found the probability was even higher, at 23 percent.

“We are here using the tools of modern genetics to take a systematic look at a fundamental aspect of how the brain works,” said Kari Stefansson, head of deCODE Genetics, who led the study.

“The results of this study should not have come as a sur-prise because to be creative, you have to think differently from the crowd, and we had previously shown that carriers of genetic factors that predispose to schizo-phrenia do so,” he said in a news release. (afp)

MONTPELLIER, France - Pregnant women regularly exposed to a range of detergents, solvents and pesticides have a substantially greater risk of giving birth to boys with genital deformities, according to a new French study.

The research, led by two pro-fessors at the Regional University Hospital Centre in the French city of Montpellier, found that women who regularly work with such chemicals, including cleaners and hairdressers, were at greatest risk of having sons born with hypospadias.

The birth defect, which affects about three in 1,000 newborn boys, is a condition where the urinary opening is abnormally positioned on the penis.

Hypospadias can be treated with surgery but it can affect the boy’s fertility once he reaches adulthood.

The study, led by pediatric surgeon Nicolas Kalfa and pe-diatric endocrinologist Charles Sultan, was carried out over five years and examined 600 children at hospitals in four French cities, 300 of whom were boys born with hypospadias.

“The study shows for the first time that regular professional or

domestic exposure (to these chemi-cals), and more generally being in contact with them, seriously raises the risk of genital deformity,” Sul-tan told AFP.

A summary of the research said boys were three times more likely to be born with hypospadias if they had been exposed to chemicals that interfered with their endocrine systems in the womb at the mo-ment when the sex of the foetus is determined.

Both parents’ professions and where they live can play a role, the study added.

The study identifies mothers working as cleaners or housekeep-ers, hairdressers, beauticians and laboratory workers as being par-ticularly at risk.

For the father, being a farmer, lab worker, cleaner, mechanic or painter was found to bring a greater chance of the son having the defect.

Living within three kilometres (1.8 miles) of an incinerator, landfill site or a chemical factory brings a greater risk of having a son with hypospadias, Sultan said.

“For a long time there has been contradictory data over the genetic and environmental causes,” Sultan added. (afp)

The tourism package was launched on Saturday (June 6) as part of The Ubud Royal Weekend. Yahya said that marketing experts and successful tourism players have inspired the development of tourism in Ubud, Bali and Indo-nesian.

Arief Yahya added that The Ubud Royal Weekend II (2015), must become an annual event, and that next year’s celebrations will be even more interesting and livelier and will showcase the expertise of experts in economics and tourism including; Abdullah Azwar Anas from Banyuwangi, and Dynand Fariz from Jember Fashion Car-nival.

“The results of these successful leaders in the field of tourism are exemplary of tourism development in Indonesia,” he said.

Arief Yahya also explained that Ubud’s unique charm represents the essence of tourism in Bali, and that thanks to the work of Market-ing 3.0 this spirit has been applied not only in Ubud but throughout Bali and even throughout Indo-nesia. He added that Ubud has a very good spiritual aura which has impacted very positively on hotel occupancy rates.

According to Yahya, the promo-tion of Ubud, Bali tourism and In-donesian tourism can be done with precision using social media. The event titled “Mental Revolution: that was held on the second day of the royal weekend, featured a pre-sentation by Paul Wirutomo and an

inspirational session on the Story of Banyuwangi by M. Yanuarto Bra-muda, the Head of the Banyuwangi Culture and Tourism Agency, with moderator Andy F. Noya.

There was also a Productivity & Innovation in SMEs session pre-sented by the Minister of Coopera-tives and SMEs Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga. Puspayoga revealed that the advancement of tourism in Bali, among other things, is supported by the SME sector.

Many people who work as professional sculptors, painters and other arts have coalesced into SMEs. “The SMEs support tourism and tourism keeps the SMEs in business so that there is a synergtic relationship between these two components,” he said.

The Minister also explained that the Ministry of Cooperatives has encouraged the development of tourism by providing training to the owners of home stays, and including tour guides as part of the SMEs of the tourism sector.

DENPASAR - An Indonesian woman who ordered the contract killing of her British husband was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison.

Sixty-year-old Robert Ellis was found in a ditch with his throat slashed in late October on the In-donesian resort island of Bali.

Julaikah Noor Ellis, 45, had admitted paying three men to mur-der her husband, who was also an Australian passport-holder.

“The defendant has been proven

legally and convincingly guilty of deliberately committing ... pre-meditated murder,” Judge Anak Agung Ketut Anom Wirakanta said at Denpasar district court in the island’s capital.

He said he took Noor’s previ-ously clean record and her remorse into account when determining the sentence.

Relations between the two soured over their years of mar-riage, with Noor angry that her husband had failed to provide for

her financially, the court heard. She decided to have her husband

murdered, offering three men the equivalent of $11,300 to carry out the crime.

Noor invited the men to watch her villa and prepare for the mur-der and gave them details of her husband’s movements.

The three men, two of whom were also sentenced to 12 years in jail Wednesday, murdered Ellis at his home and dumped the body next to a paddy field. The third

killer will be sentenced Thursday.Noor is still considering whether

to appeal aginst the sentence, her lawyer said.

Shortly after the explosion, po-lice exchanged fire with and killed two suspected Islamic militants who had arrived at the sprawling, Nile-side temple together with the suicide bomber, the officials said.

Four people, including two policemen, were wounded in the exchange, according to the Health Ministry.

There were only a handful of tourists and Egyptians inside the temple at the time of the late morn-ing attack, the officials added, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Wednesday’s attack was the first to target world-famous attractions in Luxor since November 1997, when Islamic militants opened fire

on tourists at the city’s 3,400-year-old Hatshepsut Temple on the west bank of the Nile, killing 58.

Tourism is the lifeblood of Lux-or, home to some of Egypt’s most famous ancient temples and phara-onic tombs, including that of King Tutankhamun. The city has been hit hard by a downturn in foreign visitors during the years of unrest since Egypt’s 2011 uprising.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Wednesday’s attack, but it bore the hallmarks of Islamic militants who have been battling security forces in the strategic Sinai Peninsula for years. Extremists in Sinai have targeted tourism sites to try to deny the gov-ernment a key source of revenue.

Last year, the Sinai-based insur-

gent group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, which has destroyed famed archaeological sites in Syria and Iraq, viewing them as idola-trous.

The campaign of violence in Sinai accelerated and spread to other parts of Egypt following the 2013 military overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi. The militants say the attacks are in re-venge for a massive crackdown on Islamists underway in Egypt.

The attack on the Luxor temple, which sits on the east bank of the Nile, comes as tourism was begin-ning to show signs of recovery after a four-year slump following the uprising that toppled longtime autocrat Hosni Mubarak. (ap)

ATHENS, Greece — Greek authorities say more than 1,000 people entered the country illegally by sea in a day, bringing the five-month total to about 50,000 — well above the full number of migrant arrivals for all of 2014. Greece is a close second to Italy in migrant arrivals this year.

The coast guard says 670 people were rescued since early Tuesday in the eastern Aegean

Sea and south of Crete, where 263 people were found in one small vessel. Another 361 were found on the island of Lesvos. About nine in 10 arrivals this year came from war-torn parts of the Middle East — principally Syria — and Africa.

More than 100,000 people have crossed the Mediterranean for Eu-rope so far this year, and close to 2,000 died or are missing. (ap)

LAGOS, Nigeria — A girl who was forced into marriage at 13 in Nigeria and admitted killing her husband and three friends with rat poison has been ordered freed.

Her lawyer convinced a prosecu-tor to drop demands for the death sentence, according to the lawyer. A judge in Gezawa ordered Wasila Tasi’u freed on Monday.

Lawyer Hussaina Aliyu Ibrahim says she fears for her clients’ safety

in a community that believes she is getting away with murder. She says returning the girl, now 14, to her conservative Muslim family will just consign her to another forced marriage. Tasi’u could be freed on Wednesday.

SEMARAPURA - Dozens of people carried out clean-up on Jungut Batu Beach, Lembongan, Tuesday (Jun. 9). The activities pursued by a number of foreign travelers and divers are made in a series of the World Ocean Day. In addition to doing beach cleanup, the participants also donate money to maintain the coastal sanitation.

Coordinator of the beach clean-up activity, Susan Elizabeth Beebe, said

that in the current era very few people want to clean up the environment for free. In general, all people want to do something to get paid. However, in the event all the sympathizers are expected to participate in the coastal cleanup and donate a little of their money.

Most Dive Center companies operating in Jungutbatu and some foreign travelers are participating in the activities. The clean-up is initi-ated by the Guys Trust Foundation

engaged in environmental aware-ness. It is also meant to raise fund that will be donated to the Guys Trust Foundation to fund a research on Manta Rays. “This activity is at-tended by more than 50 people and can collect approximately IDR 2.1 million. It is expected to be a motiva-tion to maintain the environmental sanitation, especially from plastic waste,” said the woman owning the World Diving Lembongan.

Such coastal cleanup activity is done by several organizations regu-larly on Jungut Batu Beach. But in the long run, it disappears. Public aware-ness is very necessary considering the Lembongan Island relies heavily on tourism sector. Such activities can also become a promotional event to promote eco-friendly tourism. “Hope-fully, this activity can be a motivation for us together,” added Susan.

In the meantime, at separate

location the Head of the Nusa Penida Water Marine Conservation, I Komang Karyawan welcomed the activity. According to him, the interesting activities must be carried out continuously on an ongoing basis, not just once. “Later on we will make synergy with related parties, dive master as well as the other stakeholders. Let’s care about our coastal environment,” said Karyawan. (dwa)

It was conveyed by the Chief of Karangasem Police Traffic Affairs, Made Suadnyana, when met on the sidelines of the last day of the Supreme Compliance Operation on Tuesday around Memorial Monument, Amlapura. The type of violation committed by riders varies starting from the completeness of vehicle document and incomplete physical condition of vehicle. “Sixty percent of the violations have something to do

with necessary papers,” he said. This indicates low awareness of the riders in the administrative matters as well as completeness of vehicle while riding.

The violation getting the most decisive crackdown is replacement of motorcycle exhaust muffler with Bronx type. The riders utilizing such kind of exhaust muffler are very disturbing public conve-nience. Suadnyana gives special attention to Candidasa attraction.

During the 14-day Supreme Com-pliance Operation, this area seems to have the most offenders this year. It happens because similar activities are rarely carried out in the area.

Aside from targeting motor-cycles and private cars, apparently the Supreme Compliance Opera-tion also targets trucks. It is noted there are totally 1,171 offenders, where 180 of them are trucks passing with exceeding tonnage.

A pickup truck transporting hu-man passengers is also netted in the operation for the sake of safety while driving. “The Supreme Compliance Operation poses an effort to create good condition before the operation during the Eid,” he said.

In the next Supreme Ketupat Operation, Suadnyana affirmed that his party will set up four sta-tions, namely monitoring station at Yeh Malet, service station at Padangbai and security station at T-junction of Padangbai. During the operation, his party will target the areas being prone to violation

and accident. The infringement-prone areas include Jalan A Yani Amlapura, road section along Abang subdistrict to Manggis subdistrict.

In the meantime, the areas being most vulnerable to traffic accidents include the road section from Karangasem to Klungkung, while the other subdistricts are said to remain small. After this operation, his party will conduct evaluations to reduce the number of violation. Then, it will be resumed with counseling, patrols and more pre-emptive actions in the form of an appeal. HONG KONG - Most Asian markets fell Wednesday, with Tokyo suffering a late sell-off as the yen rose sharply after comments from the central bank chief that the currency would probably not weaken further.

The remarks from Haruhiko Kuroda reversed morning gains in the dollar against the Japanese currency, fuelled by two US reports that gave the Federal Reserve more ammunition to raise interest rates.

With US markets ending largely unchanged, the region had few catalysts to fuel trade, while Greece’s ongoing bailout reform talks continue to keep dealers jittery.

Tokyo ended 0.25 percent lower, dropping 49.94 points to 20,046.36, while Seoul shed 0.62 percent, or 12.71 points, to 2,051.32. However, Sydney added 0.13 percent, or 7.29 points, to 5,478.6.

In late trade Hong Kong had slipped 0.66 percent.Shanghai closed down 0.15 percent, giving up

7.50 points to 5,106.04 after MSCI delayed includ-ing Chinese A shares in its benchmark index, say-ing it needed to resolve new issues with Chinese regulators.

The market’s rise in the past few days had been prompted partly by expectations it would be added, which would have attracted more funds.

Expectations that the US central bank would start raising interest rates before year-end were amplified on Tuesday after the JOLTS (Job Openings and Labor Turn-over Survey) report showed a surge in job vacancies.

Separately, a US small business survey showed businesses were hiring more people and paying them more.

However, Kuroda told a parliamentary committee Wednesday that “a US rate hike would not necessarily lead to a cheaper yen” and said a further decline in the unit was “unlikely”.

While the yen’s sharp decline has been good news for Japanese exporters, it has pushed up the cost of imports and eroded consumers’ purchasing power. (afp)

SEMARAPURA - After overwhelmed by adverse weather condition causing the seaweed production to slump, now farmers in Nusa Penida must face a drop in the price of seaweed. Previously, the price of seaweed reached IDR 10,000 per kg, now it continues to decline up to IDR 8,000 at the farmer level. By all means, this condition causes farmers that rely on their life on seaweed production to immediately scream.

Residents of Semaya hamlet, Nusa Penida, that are mostly getting involved in seaweed farming turn helpless due to fall-ing price of the seaweed. After hit by bad weather damaging their seaweed, they are faced with another obstacle, namely the dropped price of seaweed. Farmers also questioned about the price considered unreasonable.

A seaweed farmer, I Ketut Jagra, cannot do much when the price of seaweed slumps. According to him, seaweed collectors just purchase his seaweed at IDR 8,000 per kg. Such condition is certainly very suffocating the economic condition of farmers, especially before Galungan where the expenditure of farmers is quite a lot.

Similar opinion was also delivered by another seaweed farmer, I Kadek Sugiarta. After adverse weather condition, his seaweed is also damaged. Some plants are even dead due to the magnitude of waves. In line with the decrease in produc-tion, he expected the price of seaweed will not continue to decline. “Hopefully, the price is stable because I have been losing too much as seaweed is destroyed by huge waves. Many stakes are separated so that the seaweed is dead,” he explained.

In a separate location, a seaweed collector, I Wayan Murka, admitted that the price of seaweed plummets again. According to him, it happens due to hot weather factor so that the quality of seaweed declines. The price of seaweed is according to its species. For instance, spinosum is purchased at IDR 8,000 to IDR 10,000 and the water content, while cottonii species is purchased at IDR 10,000. According to him, the uncertain fuel price also triggers the price decline of seaweed.

Seaweed in Nusa Penida becomes an export commodity of Klungkung. As has been known, the seaweed of Nusa Penida has a good gel quality and has been exported to Japan and China through a number of exporters in Surabaya. (dwa)

BEIJING - European com-panies are losing confidence in China’s economy, a lobby group survey said on Wednesday, with many firms planning to lay off staff as Beijing struggles to boost growth and embarks in an anti-monopoly drive.

From car makers to wine grow-ers to tech firms, Europeans have for years looked to China to bolster sales as growth prospects back home have flagged.

But only 28 percent of firms polled by the European Chamber of Commerce in China said they were “optimistic” about their profitability in the country, which the group said

was an “all time low”.The number of respondents who

see China as a “top three” invest-ment destination fell to 58 percent this year, the lowest since 2011, it added.

The proportion of the 541 firms surveyed who plan to expand their Chinese operations fell to 56 per-cent from nearly 90 percent two years ago, with nearly two thirds planning to sack staff to cut costs.

“European companies fortu-nately know how to deal with dif-ficulties,” Joerg Wuttke, Chamber president, told AFP. “But the longer the companies are here in China, the less optimistic they are.”

China’s economy grew 7.4 per-cent last year, its slowest pace in 24 years and the slowdown has continued into this year.

The Communist Party has vowed to shift the economy away from big-ticket investment projects and towards personal consump-tion, while also fighting graft and clamping down on anti-monopoly behaviour.

But nearly two thirds of com-panies surveyed this year said an “unpredictable legal environment”, was an obstacle to business, accord-ing to the survey.

China has in the past year launched anti-monopoly probes

against a number of high-profile foreign firms, drawing accusations of double-standards as domestic players are allowed to dominate some markets.

A third of respondents believe that China’s ambitious reform agenda has not “helped create an even playing field for foreign inves-tors,” the report says.

It added: “The pace of the imple-mentation of the reform agenda still lags behind the expectations of European companies.”

Respondents also cited slow In-ternet speeds and online censorship as barriers to business.

China’s system of website blocks

“means that it’s not just that the Internet is slow, but also that the Internet doesn’t give our compa-nies a way to legitimate research,” Wuttke said.

He added that while some com-panies were looking to other emerging markets as a source of growth, so far they were staying put.

“The optimism is shrinking but the optimism is still there,” he said. “We don’t see European companies leaving China.”

For many years, he added, it was just China that drove their growth, but “now basically, they have op-tions and other choices”. (afp)

TRAvElING on Paradise Island of Bali seems incomplete if you have not had time to enjoy lawar delicacy.

It is a distinctive and familiar food of Hindu community in Bali.

Traditional stalls certainly offer this unique menu.

Sometimes, restau-rant and hotel also present it, but it has been tailored to meet the inter-national flavor so that it can be

enjoyed by people from different coun-

tries. Even, every organiz-

ing feast related to custom-ary activities and Hinduism

like Galungan, Kuningan, Sarasvati,

Pagerwesi and humanity ceremony, lawar definitely graces the event because it is an obligatory offering to God Almighty as an expression of gratitude. After that, the meals are eaten together.

There are different types of lawar whose name is adjusted to the ingredient in use. Well, one of them is the lawar nyuh made of coconut that can be enjoyed anytime. When served with porridge or rice bag, it fits perfectly on the tongue. Uniquely, every region in Bali has a method and different recipes in preparing the coconut lawar. Some mix it with pork skin, chicken meat, or chicken lungs and liver.

Its main ingredient is young coconut mixed with base genep (Balinese basic spice). It consists of herbs and natural ingredients such as garlic, aromatic ginger, lemongrass, pepper, turmeric, nutmeg and chili. How to prepare it? First of all, finely ground all spices and then fry. To make it more palatable, mix well with sambal embe (fried shallot).

Furthermore, the chicken lungs and liver are boiled until cooked. Then, drain and slice them into small pieces. The chicken lung and liver slices were smeared with fried herbs. After that, mix the chicken meat with chopped coconut evenly. Add chili sauce, lime juice and fried shallot to give fresh scent. Ultimately, the coconut lawar is ready to serve. (kmb)

The head of the air force was expected to take command of the military after the current chief, General Moeldoko, also from the army, retires on Aug. 1.

Widodo’s decision to promote General Gatot Nurmantyo is likely to cement the army’s traditionally dominant role and inflame long-standing rivalry within the armed forces, analysts say.

“It was supposed to be the air force’s turn so they will be unhappy campers because of this decision,” said defence analyst Yohanes Sulei-man.

“It’s a way for the army to make sure they stay relevant as Jokowi beefs up the navy and air force to pursue his maritime goals,” he

said, referring to the president by his nickname.

The military has a long history of involvement in politics in Indonesia and was only squeezed out of the political arena after the fall in 1998 of authoritarian ruler General Suharto.

Presidential spokesman Teten Masduki defended the choice of military chief, which was submitted to parliament for approval on Tues-day, saying it was not necessary to stick to tradition.

“As commander in chief, the president has the authority to appoint the military head with parliamentary approval,” Masduki said in a state-ment.

“He chose Nurmantyo because of the belief that he can strengthen the

military to deal with geopolitical and regional geo-strategic changes.”

The decision to allow the army to remain at the helm comes on the heels of contentious moves to allow military personnel to get involved in civilian affairs such as counter-terrorism and anti-narcotics operations.

U.S. ally Indonesia is not directly involved in disputes over rival claims in the South China Sea and has tra-ditionally seen itself as an “honest broker” between China and several Southeast Asian countries.

But as a result of the tension in the region, Indonesia plans to up-grade its military forces in areas of the South China Sea near China’s claims. (rtr)

TANAH KARO, Indonesia — A volcano in western Indonesia that has been spewing clouds of searing gas high into the air let out a new powerful burst Wednesday.

Authorities are closely monitor-ing Mount Sinabung on Sumatra, one of Indonesia’s main islands, after placing in at the highest alert level last week.

Hot ash tumbled down Sinab-ung’s slopes up to 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) from its smoldering mouth, government volcanologist Surono said. He urged villagers to stay out of the main danger zone, which stretches 7 kilometers (4 miles) to the southeast of the crater. No injuries were reported.

“The growing size of the lava dome is very unstable,” said Surono, who goes by one name, adding that smoldering rocks mixed in with hot gases may tumble down at any time.

The volcano in North Sumatra province has been shooting smoke and ash more than 500 meters (1,640 feet) into the air since Monday. Authorities counted more than 50 separate eruptions early Wednesday, but said villages out-side the evacuated area were not in immediate danger.

Mount Sinabung is among about 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volca-noes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.

The 2,600-meter (8,530-feet) Mount Sinabung has sporadically erupted since 2010, after being dor-mant for 400 years. An eruption last year killed at least 17 people.

More than 2,700 people were evacuated from villages around the crater into several temporary shelters. (ap)

SYDNEY - Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Wednesday defended his decision to send Australia’s ambas-sador back to Jakarta, following a six-week absence in protest at the execution of two drug smugglers.

Indonesia executed Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukuma-ran by firing squad in April, ignoring impassioned pleas from the Austra-lian government and public.

“I made it clear that the ambas-sador would be withdrawn for a time because of the depth of Australia’s feeling in response to those execu-tions,” Abbott said.

“We took what was a pretty un-precedented step, but he’s been out of there for about 40 days and I think now is an appropriate time for him to go back.”

Ambassador Paul Grigson re-

sumed his post on Monday.“Our relations with Indonesia are

strong and getting stronger,” Abbott continued.

“Obviously there was some stress as a result of the execution of two of our citizens and obviously we made the strongest possible representa-tions at the time.

“We thought that those execu-tions were unnecessary and coun-terproductive.

“But we also made it crystal clear at the time that we weren’t going to let this permanently damage what is a very good friendship and a very important relationship.”

Indonesia executed five other foreign drug convicts along with the Australians, igniting global condemnation.

President Joko Widodo has

strongly advocated capital punish-ment, insisting that Indonesia faces an emergency over rising narcotics use.

Ties between the two neighbours had been slowly recovering before the executions, after sinking to their lowest point in years in late 2013 on reports that Australian spies tried to tap the phones of the president and his inner circle.

Jakarta recalled its ambassador from Canberra and suspended co-operation in several areas, including efforts to stop people-smuggling boats reaching Australia.

Australia’s military-led efforts to turn back asylum-seeker boats also angered Indonesia, with tensions ris-ing last year after the navy admitted entering the Southeast Asian nation’s territorial waters. (afp)

South Korean officials this week said the Middle East Re-spiratory Syndrome outbreak may have peaked but that the next several days would be crucial to determining whether their efforts to isolate infected patients had stymied the disease. President Park Geun-hye’s office announced earlier Wednesday that Park had postponed her planned U.S. visit to focus on dealing with the out-break.

The outbreak has killed nine people and infected more than 100 in South Korea, but has occurred only at hospitals. MERS spreads through close contact with sick people, not through the air

Even so, there have been wide-spread fears and rumors, and more than 2,700 schools remain closed and about 3,440 people were

isolated Wednesday because they have had contact with infected people.

“Strong consideration should be given to reopening schools, as schools have not been linked to transmission of” the MERS virus in South Korea, said a release from the joint WHO-South Korea mission tasked with reviewing the outbreak.

Other South Korean doctors have already described the mas-sive school closures as nonsensi-cal because there has been no evidence of the virus’ transmis-sion in the community.

It was not immediately known how many schools would follow the recommendation. But South Korean officials hope the outbreak will come under control around Friday, the last day of the virus’

maximum two-week incubation period for those infected by a patient considered as the main source of the second round of the MERS outbreak. Officials say the first wave of the outbreak has ended. But critics say the outbreak will continue if infected people evade government quarantine measures and spread the virus.

MERS has mostly been cen-tered in Saudi Arabia. It belongs to the family of coronaviruses that includes the common cold and SARS, and can cause fever, breathing problems, pneumonia and kidney failure.

The South Korean outbreak originated from a 68-year-old man who had traveled to the Middle East before being diagnosed as the country’s first MERS patient last month. (ap)

JERUSALEM — Workers widening the main highway be-tween Jerusalem and Tel Aviv have stumbled upon the remnants of a 1,500-year-old Byzantine church.

Israel’s antiquities authority says the site will be preserved in consultation with the highway company. (ap)

MADRID — Spain’s air traffic controllers have staged the second set of partial strikes but there are no immediate reports of major flight delays or cancelations.

A spokesman for Spain’s air navigation company, Enaire, said 1,217 flights were to take place during the strike periods between 10 a.m. and noon and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday but there were no flight disruptions so far.

He said flight punctuality was

98 percent on Monday, the first strike day. He spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with com-pany policy. Government-imposed minimum staffing services of 70 percent have minimized the strike effect.

The stoppages are also to take place June 12 and 14. The USCA controllers’ union called the strikes to protest penalties imposed on members after a 24-hour strike in 2010. (ap)

MOSCOW — The Kremlin’s chief of staff says Russia will keep its ban on Western food in place as long as the West maintains its sanc-tions against Russia.

Sergei Ivanov pointed at the de-cision by the Group of Seven most powerful democracies to maintain sanctions against Russia. He was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying “it’s quite logical to as-sume that Russia will also extend its sanctions.”

The U.S. and the EU slapped Russia with sanctions in response to its annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula and support for a separat-ist insurgency in eastern Ukraine. They cut Russia’s access to Western capital markets and halted exports of military and energy technolo-gies. Moscow retaliated by banning many food imports from the West. Ivanov said Wednesday the ban has bolstered the domestic agricultural sector. (ap)

With Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving out injured, James takes on even more responsibility than is standard for one of the all-time greats, and he and city of Cleveland — which has not won a major sports title for 51 years — now stands two wins from the championship.

Pushed by an expectant home crowd and aided by gritty Australian sidekick Matthew Dellavedova, James and the Cavaliers survived Golden State’s fu-rious fourth-quarter comeback led by league MVP Stephen Curry.

James added 12 rebounds and eight

assists in 46 minutes, his third stellar performance in his fifth straight finals. The Cavs, who won Game 2 at Golden State for their first ever finals win, got their first at Quicken Loans Arena, which shook from start to finish. They’ll have a chance to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series in Game 4 on Thursday. Through three games, James has played 142 of 154 possible minutes, scored 123 points and taken 107 shots.

“I’m just trying to do whatever it takes to help our team win,” he said. “It’s the finals, and it’s whatever it takes. This

is a totally different challenge.” Cleve-land, which led by 20 points in the third quarter, nearly threw the game away. The Cavs looked certain winner when they led 92-83 with 51 seconds left, but then came a scoring flurry by Curry.

The Warriors star found his shooting touch in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 points. Golden State got a huge lift from reserve David Lee, but they rode Curry, who made five 3-pointers — his last with 18.9 seconds to pull the Warriors within 94-91.

The visiting team looked capable of pulling off an amazing comeback after it appeared to force a turnover with 17.5 seconds to go. However a review of the play showed Klay Thompson was out of bounds when he made contact with the ball that Dellavedova was holding in his hands.

From the inbound pass, James was fouled and made two free throws with 16.8 seconds left. On Golden State’s last possession, Andre Iguodala appeared to get fouled on an errant 3-point attempt and the Cavs pulled down the rebound to close out a win that nearly slipped away.

“We’re a young group,” James said, “and like I told the group, ‘It’s OK.’ We haven’t been in a lot of these situations, if any, with this group.” Curry finished with 27 points but had three turnovers in the final minute. Iguodala scored 15, Thompson, 14 and Lee, who didn’t play in Games 1 or 2, had 11. Despite the loss, Curry feels he’s now in a rhythm.

“I found something when it comes to how I’m going to be able to attack their pick-and-rolls,” Curry said. “I’ll keep that in the memory bank going into Game 4.” James once again was helped by Del-lavedova, who hounded Curry for three quarters, dived on the floor for loose balls and came up with a huge three-point play, flinging in a layup as he fell with 2:27 left to put the Cavs up 84-80.

Dellavedova was treated for cramps and did not appear at the postgame news conference. The Cavs said he was on an intravenous drip before being taken to the Cleveland Clinic for further pro-cedures.

After two overtime games in Oak-land, Game 3 didn’t have quite the same last-second drama, but it didn’t lack any intensity as players were sprawled on the floor fighting for loose balls. (ap)

VAlEntino RoSSi believes Marc Marquez’s 2015 MotoGP fortunes have been “unbelievable” so far, as the reigning world champion languishes fifth in the standings. After dominating the 2014 season, Marquez has only won once in the opening six grands prix of this year’s campaign.

Crashes while battling with Rossi at Termas de Rio Hondo and with Andrea Iannone at Mugello plus Honda falling behind Yamaha on raw pace have combined to leave Marquez 49 points adrift.

Rossi admitted he was stunned to see Marquez so far behind, but is certain it is only a matter of time before he rediscovers his 2014 pace.

“The situation of Marquez is unbelievable now,” he said. “Nobody expected it - that after sixth races, he’d be in fifth position. “But we’re speaking about Marc Marquez and a factory Honda.

“I think they have some problem now - techni-cal, balance of the bike or something - but they can recover very very fast and come back as strong as last year. “So it’s not closed for sure.”

Rossi’s team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who has won the last three straight races, said Marquez’s perfor-mance in coming from 13th on the grid to second before his accident showed his speed certainly had not diminished.

“A lot of champions have become champions recovering more points than Marc has to,” said Lorenzo. “We have to understand that it’s the sixth race, we have 12 more.

“Anything can happen - we can break engines, make mistakes and Marc can win like I did - three in a row. “He recovered in two laps all the positions that he was behind on the grid [at Mugello].”

PARIS — Michel Platini de-clined to divulge his intentions for the FIFA presidency. Speaking publicly for the first time since Sepp Blatter announced his deci-sion to resign, the UEFA presi-dent shied away from questions Wednesday about his plans for the future.

“I’m not making any political decision. I know where you want to lead me and I won’t go there,” said Plantini, who had opened the news conference by saying he would not talk about FIFA. “When I know something, I’ll tell you.”

The 59-year-old Platini, a former France great and national team coach, is a leading candi-date to replace Blatter as FIFA president. He met with French President Francois Hollande on Wednesday before attending a news conference about next year’s European Championship, which will be played in France.

“This news conference was scheduled way before recent events involving FIFA. Many of you have come here to question me about these events, about FIFA and about

my future,” Platini said at the start of the news conference. “I will do that when the time is right. But this is not the time or the place.”

FIFA has been plunged into cri-sis since U.S. authorities indicted 14 people on corruption charges ahead of last month’s FIFA con-gress. Seven of them were arrested in Zurich.

Blatter then won a fifth, four-term as FIFA president on May 29, but four days later announced his decision to resign. He said elections for a successor would be held sometime between December and March.

Platini, a former Blatter confi-dant turned adversary, would need help from outside his European power base to win a FIFA elec-tion. But he steered clear of any campaigning on Wednesday.

“We are here to talk about Euro 2016,” said Platini, who scored nine goals for France when it won the European title on home soil in 1984. “This is an important step toward Euro 2016 and I don’t want the events surrounding FIFA to undermine this.” (ap)

BOLOGNA — Bologna won promotion back to Serie A, a year after its relegation, following a 1-1 draw with Pescara in the second leg of their playoff final Tuesday. With the first leg having ended 0-0, Bologna only needed another draw as, in the event of a tie, the team which fin-ishes higher in the regular season gains promotion.

Bologna finished fourth, seven points ahead of seventh-placed Pescara. Pescara substitute Cristian Pasquato lev-eled 10 minutes into the second half to cancel out Gianluca Sansone’s 37th-minute opener.

Bologna had to play the final 25 minutes with 10 men after Ibrahima Mbaye was sent off.

LONDON - Former England head coach Steve McClaren is favourite to be named as Newcastle United’s new manager after the club confirmed on Wednesday that interim boss John Carver and his assistant Steve Stone had left the club.

The 54-year-old McClaren, who was manager of Newcastle’s north east rivals Middlesbrough from 2001-06 before taking over as England boss, is expected to be confirmed in the role later on Wednesday, accord-ing to local media.

Should McClaren take over, he faces a major rebuilding job at a club

that narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League after a dreadful second half of the season. Carver was handed the reins at the turn of the year following Alan Pardew’s move to Crystal Palace, but the team won only three games under his stewardship.

Despite keeping Newcastle in the top flight, Carver’s long association with the club ended on Wednesday.

“After discussions with John it was mutually agreed that in the best interests of the club moving forward, and to enable the new head coach to build his own coaching team, we would go our separate ways,” man-

aging director Lee Charnley said in a statement.

“He is a man of great character and dignity and will always be welcome at Newcastle United. We wish him every success in the future,” he added. “It has been a privilege to serve as head coach of this great football club,” Carver said.

“The fans and the region deserve a successful team and both myself and my support staff worked very hard with the squad that was avail-able to us.” Stone, a former England international, had been a coach at the club since 2010. (rtr)

HONG KONG - The Chinese Foot-ball Association has drawn criticism for publishing a promotional poster that warns not to underestimate Hong Kong’s team of “black, white and yel-low” players ahead of their World Cup qualifiers. The poster, published on the CFA’s official WeChat account, shows an image of three bare-chested soccer players on a red background with the caption:

“Don’t underestimate any opponent. This team has people with black skin, yellow skin and white skin. For such a diverse team, be on guard!” For-mer British colony Hong Kong was returned to Chinese rule in 1997 but fields many of its own sports teams in international competition.

China is to play Hong Kong in World Cup qualifiers at home on Sept. 3 and away on Nov. 17. Hong Kong have a number of foreign-born play-ers including England-born forward Jaimes McKee and Ghana-born Chris-tian Annan.

“Using skin colour to provoke your opposition, that’s thinking. See how you deal with that if it becomes a fuss overseas,” one post on Chinese web portal QQ.com remarked. Forward Annan told Hong Kong newspaper, the South China Morning Post, that his team mates were unfazed by the poster.

“Once we are on the field of play, it does not matter which colour we are, black, white or whatever as long as we are members of the Hong Kong team,” he said. “I think in a way it is a good thing that the Hong Kong team are being proclaimed like this -- it means they have to be aware of us.

“In the end soccer is a mind game and we don’t care about this kind of thing. We just concentrate on our matches and it will push us to work hard when people try to say something to bring you down.”

The Hong Kong Premier League responded to the controversy with a parody poster on its Facebook account, with the caption that the “black, white and yellow players” had one goal, to unite for Hong Kong.

The CFA published three other post-ers on the other teams they will meet in qualifying -- Bhutan, Qatar and Mal-dives -- sharing the same slogan: “Do not underestimate any opponent.”

The poster for Bhutan said to be “on guard” against a team that had an airplane pilot, while the Maldives were a “proud” team whose coach had said they wanted to beat China to finish second in Asia’s qualifying group C. Qatar, meanwhile, were a team with “many naturalised players”. “For such a rich team, be on guard!” the poster said. (rtr)

The site’s excavation director, Annette Nagar, said Wednesday that the church outside Jerusalem

served as way station for travelers en route from the Mediterranean coast. Mosaics, ceramic lamps and a Baptism site were uncovered.

(ap)

(kmb)

(afp)

“So, we are very grateful because the reha-bilitation centre is close by and this opportunity must be utilized much as possible,” he said.

on the contrary, never sleeping as if they are really diligent.

Lady Gaga, 29, laughed and replied: “He runs circles round me.” (afp)

a philosophy of not handing land -owned by local people, over to others. As an artist, Sujana feels that all he can do to convince people not to sell their land is to touch people’s hearts.

Although he recognizes that he cannot stop people from selling their land, he hopes that by speaking to their hearts through art, that they will choose not to give their land up to others. “As an artist, I knock at the door of people’s hearts through creativity. This action is better than doing nothing,” he said at his home on Wednesday.

According to Sujana, the ‘Not for Sale’ sign installed on the farm-land of Lepang Beach is a satirical comment aimed at the resorts that have already been built to the west of this land. This is not to say that he is against any development in Lepang: “Not for Sale signs are not only posted as a comment on land use itself but also as a comment about culture which should also not be sold,” he explained.

The Not for Sale sign was made on March 30 using a variety of media and was paraded from the mainland to the beach. This sign

will remain in place as a reminder to investors not to buy land that belongs to the community and also to remind locals in Lepang not become near spectators but instead to participate in the development of Lepang. (dwa)
