Hook Activity – Paper Tower Exercise
O Each group will receive 16 index cards, 12 paper
clips, and 2 marking pens. Groups have five minutes
to plan a tower that will be judged on the basis of
three criteria – height, stability, and beauty
O No physical work (building is allowed during this
planning period.)
O Each group will then have 15 minutes for the actual
construction of the paper tower using materials
provided.
School Store – An Introduction
O Role of school store in school’s Business Education program and Marketing curriculum
O Hours outside class time? (break, lunch)

Common Issues with Planning 10
- Some kids don’t want to be there - What is the value in the course?
- Taking away an elective
- Some teachers don’t want to teach it – filler course
- Teaching topics in Health curriculum organizers
- Most teachers don’t have training and resources to teach the course – no textbooks and lab time
- Many districts make this course available online through summer school – issues and concerns?

1. Curriculum Fit - supports the philosophy, rationale and goals of the BC curriculum, and the Prescribed Learning Outcomes of the specific curriculum
2. Content - accuracy and relevancy, Canadian perspective, cognitive and linguistic appropriateness for the intended audience
3. Instructional Design - effectiveness of organization, teaching strategies, assessment and activities
4. Cost – cost compared with similar resources, making choices when there is a scarcity of instructional funds, teacher resources

The Redesigned Curriculum
O Students will have to complete 8 credits
of Career Education during grades 10 to
12 in order to graduate.

and finance now integrated in other
subject areas
