Balances Act and urge you to put in on the ballot. Regardless of your position on the Act itself,
you should put the measure on the ballot so that we Sacramentans can continue to discuss
and debate the proposal until Election Day and then finally put the matter to rest with a public
vote. Refusing to let the public vote is just continuing the petty and toxic politics that has
afflicted the Council for too long.

Dear Mayor and Council,
I write to urge you to place the Checks and Balances Act on the June 2012 ballot.
Sacramento is on the verge of taking off as a city. But, we're held back by an outmoded way of runningour city set up 90 years ago for a smaller, less complex and sophisticated city. It’s a system that nolonger works, and must be changed.
Across Sacramento, residents want the opportunity to weigh in on this issue. We have many frustrations- the instability of four chief executives in 18 months; the chronic lack of progress on fiscal, economicand civic challenges; the steady loss of resources and opportunities to other parts of the region andbeyond; and the erosion in voters’ trust in city leaders to follow the will of the people.
You have the power to set a better course by placing the Checks and Balances Act on the June 2012ballot. The plan includes many needed reforms to our governance system, ethics and transparencypolicies, and redistricting process.
After three years of public discussion and debate, it’s time to let voters decide the fate of this issue. Istrongly urge you to put the Checks and Balances Act before the voters in June 2012. Please renew ourfaith that our government is still – and will always be – of and by the people.
Sincerely,
Lea AllenSacramento, California [email protected]

After three years of public discussion and debate, it’s time to let voters decide the fate of this issue. Istrongly urge you to put the Checks and Balances Act before the voters in June 2012. Please renew ourfaith that our government is still – and will always be – of and by the people.

It's a system that nolonger works, and must be changed.
We are frustrated by the many symptoms of a system that is no longer working: the instability of havingfour city managers in 18 months; the chronic lack of progress in solving fiscal, economic and civicchallenges; the steady loss of resources and opportunities; and most troubling, the erosion in voters'trust in city leaders to follow the will of the people.
You have the power to set a better course by placing the Checks and Balances Act on the June 2012ballot.
The plan addresses the root causes of our city's problems head on by
- establishing a new governance structure that promotes greater accountability to voters, a clearerseparation of powers, and robust checks and balances;
- instituting higher standards for ethics and transparency for all city officials; and - restoring integrity to the redistricting process through an independent commission beyond theinfluence of elected officials vying to 'pick their voters'
The Checks and Balances Act is an excellent proposal that draws on three years of public input anddebate on the topic. It represents a new and different approach to charter reform that resolves priorconcerns and incorporates feedback from diverse sources.
I strongly urge you to put the Checks and Balances Act before the voters in June 2012. Please renewour faith as voters that our government is still - and will always be - of and by the people.

The plan addresses the root causes of our city's problems head on by
- establishing a new governance structure that promotes greater accountability to voters, a clearerseparation of powers, and robust checks and balances;
- instituting higher standards for ethics and transparency for all city officials; and - restoring integrity to the redistricting process through an independent commission beyond theinfluence of elected officials vying to 'pick their voters'

The plan addresses the root causes of our city's problems head on by
- establishing a new governance structure that promotes greater accountability to voters, a clearerseparation of powers, and robust checks and balances;
Sincerely,

We are frustrated by the many symptoms of a system that is no longer working: theinstability of having four city managers in 18 months; the chronic lack of progress insolving city-wide fiscal, economic and civic challenges; the steady loss of talent, resources and opportunities caused by a slow and unresponsive City Hall ; and mosttroubling, the erosion in voters’ basic trust in city leaders to follow the will of thepeople.
You have the power to set a better course by placing the Checks and Balances Acton the June 2012 ballot.
The plan addresses the root causes of our city’s problems head on by • establishing a new governance structure that promotes greater accountability tovoters, a clearer separation of powers, and robust checks and balances; • instituting higher standards for ethics and transparency for all city officials; and • restoring integrity to the redistricting process through an independent commissionbeyond the influence of elected officials vying to “pick their voters”
The Checks and Balances Act is an excellent proposal that draws on three years ofpublic input and debate on the topic. It represents a new and different approach tocharter reform that resolves prior concerns and incorporates feedback from diversesources.
I strongly urge you to put the Checks and Balances Act before the voters in June2012. Please renew our faith as voters that our government is still – and will alwaysbe – of and by the people.
