LITURGY CORNERHere is an Advent Prayer that you may usewith your family for the rest of the AdventSeason: Heavenly Father, You give us thisblessed season of Advent as a gift of time

to prepare for the coming of the Christ Child. But all too oftenwe turn this gift into a source of frenzy, stress and anxiety; atime when we’re apt to prepare for a Christmas celebrationlooking perfect on the outside, but spiritually exhausting andwithout true meaning. Restore in us that inherent quest forquiet expectation and hope. Show us the way to a morepeaceful, prayerful disposition that makes us more open to aconversion of the heart. And give us the courage to let go ofthings that are ultimately unimportant to the true meaning ofChristmas. Help us to be good stewards of this Advent season,so that on the Feast of the Nativity, we will be ready with ourown sacred space for the arrival of your Son, Jesus Christ, inwhose name we now pray. Amen

FAITH AT HOME. Real hope, in contrast to wishful thinking, means taking God’s word of promise seriously. It also means that we do whatever we needto do to respond and to cooperate with that

word of promise. Adults: Throughout my life, how have Ireally tried to be attuned to God’s hope and listen to hispromise? Children: How do I know that I can trust whatGod promises me? A Family Perspective: The season of Advent invites us torenew our lives in preparation for the coming of Jesus. The people who heard the message of John the Baptistrepented for their sins and were baptized as a sign ofGod's forgiveness. In Baptism, our sins areforgiven, andwe receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, who helps us in ourlife of discipleship. Led by the Holy Spirit, we use thisAdvent season to renew our lives so that we, like John theBaptist, might prepare the way for Jesus. As you gathertogether as a family, talk about ways in which theexample of others has called you to be am follower ofJesus. Name the people who have been examples toyou of Christian discipleship and describe theircharacteristics that you have tried to emulate.

CHRISTMAS/OPLATKI BREADThe breaking of the Christmas wafer is a customthat began in Poland in the 10th century and ispracticed by people of Polish ancestry around theworld. It is considered the most ancient andbeloved of Polish traditions. The Christmas wafersymbolizes the unity of the family, which manyconsider to be the main pillar of society.

According to beliefs, the bond of unity should exist betweenfamily members. The father is seen as the link in theunbroken chain of One Body, One Bread, One Christ, andOne Church, while other family members join him in thiseternal procession. The wafer also symbolizes forgivenessand reconciliation. The Christmas/ Oplatki Bread will beavailable next weekend in the Meditation Chapel

Dear friends,

We've already reached the Second Sunday of Advent. This Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm, we will have our Annual Christmas Concert. Thanks to the Hanover Wind Symphony and theChoirs of our neighbour parishes, our own Choir and many good people of our parish who helpedto organize the event. This will be a great opportunity to prepare our hearts for the Nativity of ourLord and Saviour. The good Christmas Music and the joy of getting together to share our faith willprepare us to focus on the Mystery of Our Saviour being born among us as individuals and as aparish family. Let us enjoy this wonderful prelude of Heaven!

Last Saturday after the 5:30 pm Mass, the Knight of Columbus hosted their Christmas Party inour Parish Center. I thanked them for this great job. It is a shame to have such beautifuldecorations at the Parish Center for just for one night. I wish they could stay there for the wholeChristmas Season, but life goes on. There are many other activities at the Parish Center however,it was worth the effort. The children were very happy and it was a wonderful experience to meetso many young parents from our parish and from Notre Dame. Thank you again to our Knights forworking hard and for offering these wonderful opportunities to our families at this beautiful time ofAdvent and Christmas.

The next day after the 11:00 am Mass, we gathered at the Parish Center again. This was more ofa private party since it was only for our parish people. We ate too much! We had a lot of leftoversfrom the night before and people brought more food. There was a very nice, large cake with asign “WELCOME ROBERTO, MILTON AND KAMIL”. Thank you very much for doing this for us,but as I said at the party, we are taking this as an opportunity to thank you all for your love andsupport of us and our Parish. It is good to get together at this beautiful time of the year and wisheach other Merry Christmas. We are blest being here among these great people of God. Thereare many people in our parish who work hard the whole year round and they do this for the parishwithout expecting anything back. You are an inspiration to us as priests. I hope we can serve youalso with as generous a heart. May we celebrate Christmas for many years together.

We have already begun with our children’s confessions in the Religious Formation Program. It isamazing! Children know very well what they do and because they have an innocent heart full oflove, it is very important for them to say I am sorry to the Lord and to be reconciled with Him.They know the Lord Jesus is a wonderful friend in their lives who is always there for them andnever abandons them. Their confessions are really deep. Sometimes they make the priests crydue to the nobleness of those little hearts and the beauty of their words. I am sure the Sacramentof Reconciliation will help them to mature in their faith and in their lives and to be more preparedfor the Christmas celebration. We will continue this Sunday with our Confirmation Program andthe last session will be on Tuesday December the 12th.

As Christmas approaches, let us continue to focus on the joy of believing that God is not a distantGod far from us; He is right here with us. The Emmanuel (God with us) never leaves us alone. No matter where we are or what are we doing, He never leaves our side. May we acknowledgeHis presence at every moment of our lives.

May God bless you all,

Fr. Roberto
