Ecological Problems From Turkey
Semiha Ezgi Tokşen
Introduction
• Turkey’s economical emergence starts to damage ecology because of high industrial production and pollution.
• High energy consumption on the rise, Turkey has been forced to import more oil and gas, and the resultant increase in oil tanker traffic in the Black Sea or Bosporus Straits has increased environmental threats.
Marine Problems
• Industrial waste products which releates into rivers, lakes, seas or other water bodies cause water pollution.
• Acid rains is one of the other reason.• Turkey has backed alternative means to
transport oil and gas from Central Asia.• Increased shipping traffic and oil tanker
accidents through the narrow Bosporus Straits and Black Sea cause the main marine problems in Turkey.
• Overfishing and pollution have left the ecosystem nearly defunct.
Air Pollution• Rising energy consumption and the increase
in car ownership have increased air pollution.• Turkey needs to maintain and possibly
increase investments in public transport and improve the quality of oil products and additional investments in the environmental control system, as well as further promote fuel switching from high-sulfur lignite to natural gas.
Energy Comsumption in Turkey• Turkish energy comsumption is rising
fastly.• Turkey's total energy consumption,50%
is used by the industrial sector, with residential at 27%, transportation at 16.4%, and commercial 6.7%.
• Energy waste is the main problem in Turkey, even if high consumption of energy seems like Turkey’s economy is developing.
• Increasing energy consumption means high carbondioxide emission.
Renewable Energy in Turkey• Main aims of renewable energies: -to expand the utilization of renewable sources for generating electrical energy -to benefit from these resources in secure, economic and qualified manner -to increase the differentiation of energy resources.
• Hydroelectric power, solar power and wind power are the most important renewable energy ways and they are rising dramatically.
• Although renewable energy ways are being developed, there is a need for more research and development to increase their efficient utilization.

Conclusion• Even if Turkey’s high energy consumption shows the development of this
country, ecology has started to be damaged.• By establishing basic environmental standards and identifying
environmental investment priorities, Turkey can integrate sustainable policies into its overall economic development, thereby safeguarding its environment well into the future.
