- On the 3rd of March 1909 LUIGI BOLDROCCHI established theactivity with the first orders for the supply of ten centrifugal fans.- In 1911 the Officine Termo Meccaniche BOLDROCCHI wasset up in Milan with an operating area of 3000 square meters. - In 1914 the first plant for air pollution control was produced.

Known above all for air moving machines and systems, after1945, Boldrocchi was able to satisfy the need for airpurification systems arising from the reconstruction ofindustrial activities in Europe. In order to take on morecomplex environmental applications, Boldrocchi in 1970became a licensee of the Swedish company Bahco, known forits high efficiency air pollution control technology, mostlyemployed in steel, cement and boiler applications.From its inception, Boldrocchi Ecologia has provided a strongimpetus to the research and development of air purificationtechnologies and processes, extending the applications to

important new industrial sectors and completing the spectrum of available technology.

PRODUCTSAir pollution control equipment, together with the other principal components integral to such systems, constitute the range ofspecialized products that Boldrocchi Ecologia designs and continually updates, testing innovative solutions in our own testingfacilities.

Fabric FiltersOur experience with specialized filtration fabrics allowsus to successfully treat gases at high gas temperatures(>250°C), gases containing aggressive chemicals, suchas oxides of sulfur and chloride, ultra-fine dust (<1μm),and high dust concentrations (>1000 g/Nm3).To every operating condition corresponds acustom-designed and specialized project, optimized bya competent technical department, eminently capableof selecting the right materials, engineering the processcontrol system and properly dimensioning systems forapplications greater than 2 million m3/h.

Electrostatic PrecipitatorsBecause the collecting elements are constructed from steel, they arecapable of separating particulate from gas stream over 400°C,ensuring a stable and reliable service for many years, with modestmaintenance requirements.Excellent capture efficiency on small particles and a low energyconsumption confer advantages on this technology that has made itthe choice in pulverized coal firing power boiler applications.

Wet ScrubbersParticulate scrubbers are available in both high and low

pressure drop designs, and are applied based on the requiredcollection efficiency on the specific particle characteristics. Special gas scrubbers are employed for acid gas removal

applications by way of neutralization stages, placed in series.A Boldrocchi Ecologia specialist will evaluate each individual

chemical process requirements and, based on a specificneutralizing chemical selection, calculate the gas outlet

conditions, integrating the results into a state-of-the-art gascleaning system, complete with chemical utilization

and neutralization efficiency guarantees.

METALSAll foundry and metals refining processes have providedBoldrocchi Ecologia with the opportunity to show ourability to design gas cleaning plants based variousdifferent control technologies.From complete post combustion, gas cooling and acidgas control systems applied to secondary refining ofcopper or aluminium, to the large particulate controlsystems for the control of brass foundry emissions; fromsophisticated applications on zinc and lead lines, tofabric filters on precious metals processes, BoldrocchiEcologia has experiences.All of these applications, together with many others fromexperiences various other metals processes, have beenthe testing ground upon which Boldrocchi Ecologia hasshown the range of its competence in the sizing andimplementation of emissions control systems.

CEMENTThe production of cement requires large airvolumes that become polluted during thecalcining and grinding of raw materials aswell as the cooling and grinding of clinker.In the control of particulate emissions fromthese processes, fabric filters continue togain popularity over electrostatic precipitatorsdue to their ability to control particulate in amore consistent fashion.Recently, it has become popular to incorporateall of the various emissions points into onesingle particulate collection system,complemented by an evaporative gasconditioning tower for temperature reduc-tion and a powerful induced draft fan.Boldrocchi Ecologia is capable of supplyingand installing particulate control systems,assembled from components entirelydesigned and engineered according to ourown technology, respected for its efficiency,reliability and value.

LIMEOperating for many years under the oscillatinggas temperature conditions characteristic of verticalshaft lime kilns, Boldrocchi Ecologia fabric filters haveproven themselves capable of providing a highparticulate control efficiency at low pressure drops.In addition to process equipment, fugitive dust fromstationary sources emitted by the various materialstransport systems employed in the production of Lime,are controlled by Boldrocchi Ecologia filters, whosetechnology has been applied successfully to difficultgases, including those with high humidity content, suchas lime hydrator exhausts.

STEELSteel production, whether produced in an integrated plantwith blast furnace and BOF, or in a mini-mill with an electricarc furnace, generates large gas volumes at elevatedtemperatures. Maybe more importantly, these gasescontain large amounts of fine dust, and, in the case of theelectric arc furnace, are compounded by volatiles that canbe potentially difficult to handle upon condensation if notmanaged properly.The dimensions of the problem dictate one of a number ofsolutions –large containment devices located high abovethe emission point, ducting systems with intakes close tothe combustion point, operating at above 1500°C,or suction hoods subjected to shards of molten metal andenclosures capable of attenuating acoustic emissionsabove 130 dB.Downstream, after the indirect or evaporative gas coolingsystem, a large fabric filter capable of purifying volumes inthe millions of cubic meters, and powerful, variable speedfans ensure the extraction of purified gases and propelthem to the atmosphere.Boldrocchi Ecologia possesses the experience needed tosolve all difficulties in controlling air quality, allowing us toprovide the steel industry with effective custom engineeredsolutions, precision manufactured components and expertinstallations.

Cyclonic SeparatorsWith applications above 450°C, they takeadvantage of the centrifugal actionof the gases to separate suspended particulate,finally collecting them in the hopper,providing a single evacuation point.This centrifugal action is especially effectiveon particles of a certain size and density,making them particularly suitedfor erosion control upstreamof fans and finish filtration.

COMBUSTION SOURCESFrom fossil fuels to waste-to-energy, the experience of BoldrocchiEcologia in combustion processes allows us to employ fabric fil-ters, electrostatic precipitators and cyclones, often part of asystem that includes gas cooling, as well as control of acid gases,metals, dioxin/furans and organic compounds.Our vast array of technologies ensures the possibility of obtaininga complete exhaust gas treatment line, from the exit of the boileror furnace, to the stack, with strict adherence to every internatio-nal emission standard.

BOLDROCCHI ECOLOGIA is actually a separatedivision, specialized in the design e supply ofturn-key air pollution control systems for industry.

The Ecologia division employs over 30 engineersand specialized technicians, all capable ofdesigning complete gas cleaning lines for variousprocess exhausts.

The manufacture of the specialized components iscarried out in two different manufacturing facilitiesthat employ a total of 120 workers. These factoriesinclude separate facilities dedicated to the thermal,acoustic, and airflow testing of manufacturedproducts.

Boldrocchi has operated since 1993 under the ISO 9001 quality control system.

Over and above our domestic production capacity, Boldrocchi has project execution capabilitiesavailable in France, Germany, India and in the United States. Furthermore, we have establishedcollaborations with fabrication and erection companies in many countries around the world in order to beable to carry out qualified and competitive turn-key solutions.
