ABSTRACT
Today, the computer is the basic need of every human being. Computer and made our lives
easier and saves a lot of time and human effort, but no one is aware about the harmful effects of
the use of the computer in environment. This is more than the production of CO2 emission
through the heat generated by computer and its organs. Energy consumption by different
computer hardware also plays a major role towards the harmful environment. And cause toxicity
and pollution due to computer material. To solve these problems, "Green Computing "comes into
existence. With the help of green computing we can save a lot of energy and the protection of
our environment from the harmful effects of computers and organs. Green computing effectively
Approach towards energy efficient products. The focus of this study is on the benefits of green
computing, By adapting the Green Computing, "to save the environment, save Life".
INTRODUCTION
It is known that technical developments which are making new advancements today which show
yesterday as outdated. Developments in the field of information technology today are happening
very quickly successions that computers come to the market and quickly turned the piece of junk
as well. Therefore, it has led to a new field of computing known as ”Green Computing”, which
promotes the use of environmentally sustainable computers and accessories which during use

and after disposal cause minimal or no damage to the environment. Also referred to as green
IT, this technology aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce the use of hazardous
chemicals in the devices that turn at the disposal or recycling of environmentally friendly
design.
The increase in computing over the years to have a direct impact on environmental issues
and the preoccupation of green technology in the future is to reduce the negative impact of
computing on the environment.
We becoming more aware of the environment and the idea of being green in all aspects of
our lives are more and more vital. High oil prices and dwindling stocks, so we need to
develop technologies that do not rely on oil and gasoline, but will allow our vehicles to use
electricity and other natural and eco-friendly things which can be renewed and wont effect
the environment. Technological advancements are making our homes much more energy
efficient.
Many people don’t think of computers in terms of green technology, but its important part
of the equation. Software designed on computers can help reduce energy consumption or
make the elements and processes more environmentally friendly.
METHODS
Green technology is a term user very broadly, one that covers all stages of the life of
computers using advances in technology to make things more environmentally friendly
and reduce our carbon footprint.
It's prevalent as it is in a new type of hybrid, as is the case in making computers that use
less amount of energy or recycling of mobile phones and computers parts (many of
which end up lying on the garbage dumps, unfortunately) . The truth is that, necessity of
green technology should be in the future.
The mnemonic GREEN is defined more fully in :
G - Generating and storing renewable energy
R - Recycling existing materials
E - Energy efficient product manufacturing, distribution, construction, installation and
maintenance
E - Education, compliance and awareness
N - Natural and sustainable product manufacturing

Green or green computing refers to information sustainable and environmentally computing
technology. It is also environmentally responsible use of computers and related resources.
In the year 1992, environmental protection in the United States agency launched a program
called "Energy Star". A situation that voluntary labeling program designed to strengthen
and recognize energy efficiency. The results of "sleep mode" in the field of consumer
electronics adoption. Green Computing, used shortly after the start of the Energy Star
program. The main objective of the program was to calculate the triple line efficiently (or
"People, Planet, Profit"). One of the main goals of green computing is about improving the
performance of computing and reducing the energy consumption and carbon footprints. The
terms is usually used for computing resources in conjunction with reduced environmental
impact, and to maximize the economic viability and ensure social duties. Reducing the use
of hazardous substances such as CFCs, and encouraging the use of recyclable materials, and
reduce the use of carbon Ingredients is biodegradable, and encouraging the use of
sustainable and renewable resources. It is taken as Green Initiative to consider all aspects of
the life of the computer, from design to disposal.
It includes green computing:
Green design - The design of energy-efficient components, and computers in an
environmentally sound servers and cooling equipment, and data centers.
Green manufacturing - Manufacture of electronic components, computers, and other
associated subsystems with minimum impact on the environment.
The use of green - The reduction of energy consumption in computers and other information
systems, as well as Use environmentally sound manner.
Disposal green - The renovation and re-use of old computers and recycle properly
computers unwanted and other electronic equipment.
Big boost to contemporary advances in the field of green technology is two European Union
directives:
1. THE 2003 on the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) directive limiting the use of
many of the hazardous materials in electronics manufacturing.
2. THE 2007 Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals legislation
(REACH), which prohibits certain chemicals and dangerous states permission from the
European Commission for the use of other toxic chemicals.
These guidelines make it difficult for computer manufacturers to continue to use toxic chemicals
such as flame brominates inhibitors (brominated) flame retardants, cadmium, selenium, lead, and
mercury in the computer industry and peripherals, forcing them to look for green alternatives.

Still have not seen the full impact of the electronic industry for RoHS and access to research
is still underway to find alternatives to all toxic substances. In the future, however, it is
certain to see the emergence of an effective and widespread use of computers
environmentally friendly and energy completely free of all harmful toxic elements.
It must be organized green computing initiative in nature, and turns in the direction of an
increasing number of complex computational problems. Elements of such a solution may
contain such issues as follows:
The satisfaction of the end user, which means to improve system performance and use

restructuring management.
reduce and eliminate e-waste.
Virtualization of server resources.
Power consumption efficiently.

CONCLUSION
While the performance and breadth of application of computers is increasing, so is our
awareness of the cost and scarcity of energy needed to feed them, as well as the materials
needed to make them in the first place. However, because computer developments can
enable people and businesses to adopt greener lifestyles and work styles, in terms of
environmental debate, IT is definitely part of the problem and part of the solution.
Through more environmentally friendly use (such as more efficient power management and
shutdown during periods of inactivity) and by adopting today's lower power technologies,
computers can already be significantly more energy efficient. In fact, just as we now look
back and wonder why cars a decade or two ago was wasting so much gasoline, in a decade
we will undoubtedly be staggered that a typical desktop PC used to sit around drawing 100-
200W of power Every hour of the night and day, and to achieve no more than display a
screen saver.
International Journal of Scientific Research in Engineering (IJSRE) Vol. 1 (1), January, 2017

The computer industry is more prepared and much more competent than almost any other
industry when it comes to addressing and responding to rapid changes. Environmentally it is
not a good thing that most PCs - especially in enterprises - have typically entered a landfill
after only a few years in service. However, this reality at least means that there is a
generalized mentality either to adapt or pay money for new computer hardware on a regular
basis. So while it took decades to get more energy-efficient cars on the roads, I hope it will
only take a matter of years to come to a state of affairs where most computers are using
much less power than Wear unnecessarily today.
