Soldier BearWritten by Bibi Dumon TakIllustrated by Philip Hopman
Based on a real series of events that happened during World War II, SoldierBear tells the story of an orphaned bear cub adopted by a group of Polish soldiers. The bear, Voytek, is enlisted in the company and travels with the soldiers from Iran to Italy, and then on to Scotland. His mischief gets him into trouble along the way, but he also provides some unexpected encouragement for the soldiers amidst the grim realities of war: Voytek learns to carry bombs for the company, saves the camp from a spy, and keeps them constantly entertained with his antics.
Bibi Dumon Tak’s powerful and surprising story offers readers a glimpse at a fascinating piece of history.

The Jesse TreeWritten by Geraldine McCaughrean
Illustrated by Bee Willey
As Mr. Butterfield carves a Jesse Tree in an old dusty church, a curious young boy distracts him, asking about the various symbols on the tree. Begrudgingly, the old man finds himself retelling the familiar biblical tales that trace the family tree of
Christ from its beginning in the Garden of Eden. Under the carpenter’s skilled hands, the Jesse Tree grows — and an unlikely friendship begins to take root as well.
Geraldine McCaughrean’s fresh retellings of familiar biblical events and Bee Willey’s striking illustrations create a rich and contemporary tale. The Jesse Tree will captivate readers who know and love the Bible stories as well as those who are reading them for the first time.
Geraldine McCaughrean has written more than one hundred books for children of all ages, including the award-winning Gilgamesh the Hero (Eerdmans) and The Death Defying Pepper Roux (HarperCollins). In addition, she has won numerous prizes for children’s literature, including the Carnegie Medal, the Whitbread Award, and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Award. Geraldine lives in England.
Bee Willey has worked in animation, advertising, and publishing. But her first love is book illustration — she has contributed to more than twenty children’s books — which she now combines with teaching at several colleges of art. Bee lives in England.

Extraordinary Ernie & Marvelous MaudWritten by Frances WattsIllustrated by Judy Watson
Ernie Eggers is thrilled when he wins a superhero contest and becomes Extraordinary Ernie. But his excitement turns to dismay when he discovers that his sidekick is a sheep! It doesn’t take him long to realize, however, that there has never been another sheep quite like Marvelous Maud.
“The brevity, spry pace, and humor-ous line art make Watts’s story a good choice for kids who are more used to meeting superheroes on the screen than on the page.”
— Publishers Weekly

The Middle SheepWritten by Frances WattsIllustrated by Judy Watson
The adventures of Extraordi-nary Ernie and Marvelous Maud continue, but the usually cheerful and dependable Maud is unexpect-edly grumpy, and the pair seem to spend most of their time arguing. Ernie and Maud must learn the value of teamwork (and how to get a sheep out of a tree) before it’s too late.
“Sibling conflict, animals and superheroes are all high on the interest level of young readers, making this a series to watch.”
