IntroductionEAS encoder/decoders are the heart of the United States’ EAS system. They provide a means to take audio signals containing data (usually from radio stations), filter them for geographic region (county code) and event (type of emergency) information, and send the same message out again if it meets the user-programmed parameters. The EASyIPTV encoder/decoders contain all the hardware needed to receive AM, FM, or NWS radio stations, monitor the stations for EAS data, examine the EAS data for applicability to the region it is used in, create video that contains a translation of the EAS message, and reproduce the EAS message audio. A comprehensive suite of PC-based configuration and control programs communicate with the EASyIPTV encoder/decoders over RS-232 or Ethernet.

The EASyIPTV encoder/decoder contains analog audio replacement capability, an NTSC video generator, contact closures, RS-232 serial, and Ethernet capability for controlling audio switching and video generation equipment.

The EASyIPTV encoder/decoder allows EAS or non-EAS emergency messages to be generated from any touch-tone telephone. Additionally, configuration settings and logs can be retrieved via Ethernet or a telephone MODEM, and automated analysis and reporting may be performed on EAS logs for EAS compliance and inclusion in EAS records. EAS and telephone user messages may be routed based on the location codes contained within the EAS message, or the telephone user ID.

All EASyIPTV encoder/decoders have been certified by the FCC to operate in accordance with 47 CFR, Part 11 (FCC regulations), and are in compliance with the applicable EAS Handbook. All EASyIPTV encoder/decoders are flash-upgradeable and the most current software/firmware versions are available at www.trilithic.com.

3. Software Installation Chapter 3

If Windows asks if you wish to install the EASyIPTV software without a digital signature or Windows logo testing, click the Yes button or the Continue Anyway button.

Computer System RequirementsIn order to install the EASyIPTV Configuration software, the following computer hardware and software conditions must be met:

• Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008

• The computer must meet the minimum operating requirements of the operating system.

• 9-pin RS-232 interface or USB to RS-232 adapter

• 10/100 BaseT Ethernet network interface card with an RJ-45 connector

• Telephone MODEM (optional for MODEM communications)

This chapter provides instructions for installing the EASyIPTV Configuration software. For detailed installation instructions for the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, refer to the EASy Series Encoder/Decoder Hardware Manual.

Installation ProcedureThe EASyIPTV Configuration software can be installed from a CD obtained from your Trilithic sales representative, or from a Setup file that has been downloaded from Trilithic’s EAS website (www.trilithicEAS.com). The installation procedure for both installation methods is outlined in the following sections.

Installing from the CD1. Depending on which operating system you are installing the EASyIPTV

Configuration software on, you may need to log in as the system administrator.

2. Insert the EASyIPTV Configuration software CD into the appropriate drive.

3. If Autorun is enabled for the CD-ROM drive, the EASyIPTV Configuration setup program will start automatically. If the setup program does not start, click the Windows Start button, then select Run and type [drive]:\setup.exe, then click the OK button (substitute the appropriate drive letter in the command line, in place of [drive]).

4. Depending on which operating system you are installing the EASyIPTV Configuration software on, the “Open File - Security Warning” dialog box may

appear. If this dialog box appears, click the Run button.

5. The “Preparing to Install...” window will appear momentarily to indicate the status of

the software’s installation.

7. The “License Agreement” window will appear. To continue with the installation, select the radio button which corresponds with acceptance of the license agreement,

then click the Next button.

9. The “Destination Folder” window will appear. The default location in which the EASyIPTV Configuration software will be installed is displayed. Click the Change button to select a folder other than the default; click the Next button to accept the default folder in which to install the EASyIPTV Configuration software.

If the software installation is an upgrade from a previous version of the EASyIPTV

Configuration software, select the same destination folder as the previous version in order to keep the previous configuration settings.

10. The “Ready to Install the Program” window will appear next. This window confirms the settings for the installation of the EASyIPTV Configuration software. If the

information shown is correct, click the Next button. To change the installation settings, click the Back button.

Installing from the Internet1. Depending on which operating system you are installing the EASyIPTV

2. Download the latest version of the EASyIPTV Configuration software through Trilithic’s EAS website (www.trilithicEAS.com), and save the setup file to the local hard disk or Windows desktop.

3. Initialize the setup program by double-clicking the Setup icon on the desktop.

4. Depending on which operating system you are installing the EASyIPTV Configuration software on, the “Open File - Security Warning” dialog box may appear. If this dialog box appears, click the Run button.

Software UpdatesTo update the EASyIPTV Configuration software, the program must be removed and reinstalled. Follow the procedure outlined in Chapter 3: Installation, Removing EASyIPTV Configuration Software to remove the software. To reinstall the updated software, follow the procedure outlined in Chapter 3: Installation, Installation Procedure, Installing from the CD, or Installing from the Internet.

A current version of the EASyIPTV Configuration software CD must be obtained from a Trilithic representative, or a current setup file must be downloaded from Trilithic’s EAS website (www.trilithicEAS.com). After securing an updated version, perform the installation procedure as directed in the Chapter 3: Installation, Installation Procedure, Installing from the CD, or Installing from the Internet section of this manual.

Removing EASyIPTV Configuration SoftwareThe Windows Add or Remove Programs utility can be used to remove the EASyIPTV Configuration software. Open the “Add or Remove Programs” utility be clicking the Windows Start button, then the Control Panel program. From the Control Panel, click the Add or Remove Programs button. The following program list window will be displayed.

In the program list, scroll to find Trilithic EASyIPTV. Click the program to select it, then click

the Remove button to uninstall the program. A pop-up window will appear, confirming your decision to remove the program. Click the Yes button to remove the EASyIPTV Configuration software; click the No button to cancel the program deletion.

4. Understanding the EASyIPTV

What Does the EASyIPTV Encoder/Decoder Do?The EASyIPTV encoder/decoder receives emergency alert system information from up to six audio sources (internal and/or external). It decodes the message, creates the appropriate audio and video messages, and operates any routing and distribution equipment required to replay the message for the listeners/viewers. Additionally, messages can be received over IP from the EASyCAP Receiver software/server or originated by the EAS operator via local or remote control of any of the EASyIPTV encoder/decoders.

The EAS audio sources include internal AM/FM/NOAA radios and external audio inputs that can be connected to any known EAS audio source. Monitoring assignments can be found in each state’s emergency plan, which will designate local primaries (LP1 and LP2) for each stations geographic location(s). EAS audio is decoded by the internal audio processing circuitry. It is then interpreted to determine the type of emergency or test, locations for which the message applies, and other information supplied in the EAS header. The voice message (if present) is recorded for playback to the listeners/viewers.

CAP and EAS messages can be delivered across a TCP/IP network to the EASyIPTV Encoder/Decoder. The EASyCAP Receiver software/server can deliver CAP alert information, text, and audio to the EASyIPTV Encoder/Decoder via two configured TCP ports. The Trilithic EAS Network Receiver can deliver EAS messages to the EASyIPTV Encoder/Decoder via a UDP port and a TCP port.

EAS messages are passed through a series of filters to determine if the message matches predefined, user-configured parameters. If the message passes these filters, it is automatically forwarded to the routing and distribution equipment.

The EASyIPTV encoder/decoder activates TTL outputs, contact closure outputs, Ethernet communications, serial communications, analog audio switches, and digital audio switches in order to control the audio, video, routing, and distribution equipment required to present the EAS message to the listeners/viewers. It also supplies pertinent video and re-encodes/plays the EAS FSK, attention tone, and recorded audio. Logs are recorded in the internal Flash memory and are accessible via serial or Ethernet using the supplied software.

5. Initial Configuration

OverviewThe EASyIPTV Configuration software is designed to provide an intuitive, Windows-based interface for setting up an EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. The interface between the Configuration software and the encoder/decoder can be accomplished via RS-232, 10/100 BaseT Ethernet, or a telephone MODEM. The configuration program provides:

• Access to EAS logs stored in the EASyIPTV

• An Interface for generating EAS messages

• Configuration and log access over a serial, telephone, or LAN connection

• A simple method for upgrading the EASyIPTV firmware through the RS-232 port

• A convenient means of upgrading the EASyNIC card via the Ethernet port

• A single point of management for multiple EASyIPTV encoder/decoders that maintains configuration settings and log files for each configured encoder/decoder

If the EASyIPTV Configuration program is being used to maintain multiple EASyIPTV encoder/decoder configurations, select the appropriate system using the Select button on the Main tab before attempting to connect to a remote system.

Connecting the EASyIPTV to a ComputerBefore connecting the encoder/decoder to the computer on which the EASyIPTV Configuration program is installed, determine which type of connection will be used between the EASyIPTV and the host computer (Serial, Ethernet, or MODEM). Refer to the following procedures for instructions in establishing a connection between the EASyIPTV and the host computer.

Serial Connection1. Connect the 9-pin null MODEM serial cable (provided) between the desired

communications port on the computer, and COM-1 on the EASyIPTV.

2. Ensure no other programs on the computer are using the required PC COM port.

3. Click the Disconnect button.

4. Click the SELECT button.

analog telephone line (POTS).

6. Enter the telephone number for the desired EASyIPTV encoder/decoder in the

Telephone Number text box, including any digits needed to access an outside line (1 for long distance; 9 for an outside line, etc.). A comma can be used to add a pause to the dialing, and dashes or spaces can be added for enhanced readability (for example: 9, 1, 555-456-7890).

7. Click the Connect button. The MODEM will connect and the status message at the bottom-center of the window will display the speed at which the MODEM connected.

8. When done configuring the MODEM connection for the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, click the Disconnect button to terminate the telephone connection.

First-Time EASyIPTV Network ConfigurationIf the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder has not been configured for your network, the initial network settings for the EASyIPTV need to be programmed via the serial port or directly to the PC’s Ethernet port through a crossover cable using the factory default static IP address.

1. Connect the PC hosting the EASyIPTV Configuration program to the EASyIPTV via a serial connection. Refer to Chapter 5: Initial Configuration, Connecting the EASyIPTV to a Computer, Serial Connection.

2. Start the EASyIPTV Configuration program.

3. On the General tab, in the Network Settings group, enter the new:

• Static IP Address

• Subnet Mask

• Default Gateway

4. On the Utilities tab, click the Program IP Settings button.

5. Power-off the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. After five seconds, power-on the EASyIPTV to allow the encoder/decoder to acquire the newly-configured IP address.

6. The EASyIPTV is now configured with the new IP address and network settings.

The Main TabThe Main tab features settings which effect the EASyIPTV Configuration program itself. In order to configure the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, the parameters featured on the Main tab must be configured before any other changes in the program are made.

• Select - Before an EASyIPTV system can be modified or deleted, it must be selected.

To select an EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, click the Select button on the Main tab. From the pop-up window, select the system by clicking on it once, then click the ACCEPT button.

• Add - To add an EASyIPTV encoder/decoder to the list, click the Add button on the Main tab. Enter a unique name for the new system in the System Name text box, in the pop-up Add a New EASyIPTV System window, then click the ACCEPT button.

• Delete - To delete an EASyIPTV encoder/decoder from the list, first select the system to

• Select - Click this button to select a protocol between the computer and the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. A pop-up window will appear; select the radio button corresponding to the desired communication protocol (Serial/Modem or Ethernet).

The selection should correspond to the type of physical connection between the host computer and the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. If the Serial/Modem radio button was selected, the Device Selection pop-up window will appear next.

Connections made via the EASyIPTV’s Ethernet port do not require that the Connect button be clicked; the program automatically connects and disconnects the TCP port on an as-needed basis.

• Connect - Click this button to establish a connection between the EASyIPTV Configuration program and the selected EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. A message at the bottom of the EASyIPTV Configuration program window will indicate the status of the connection.

• Disconnect - Click this button to close the connection between the EASyIPTV Configuration program and the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder.

• Communications Device - The selected communication device between the host computer and the selected EASyIPTV encoder/decoder will be displayed in this text box.

• IP Address - If Ethernet was selected as the preferred communication medium, enter the IP address of the selected EASyIPTV encoder/decoder in this text box.

• TCP Port - Enter the port number which the EASyIPTV Configuration program will use to communicate with the selected EASyIPTV encoder/decoder (the default value is 59911).

• Telephone Number - If a MODEM was selected as the communication device, enter the telephone number of the selected EASyIPTV encoder/decoder’s MODEM in this text box.

• Password - Enter the password used to access the selected EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. The default password is Administrator.

• Remember Password - Select this check box to instruct the EASyIPTV Configuration program to remember the password used to access the selected EASyIPTV encoder/decoder.

• Program Configuration - When a configuration change is made within the EASyIPTV Configuration program (on any tab of the program window), the Program Configuration button must be clicked to upload the new configuration to the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder.

• Retrieve Configuration - The configuration parameters for the selected EASyIPTV encoder/decoder can be downloaded to the EASyIPTV Configuration program. To download the encoder/decoder’s configuration parameters to the Configuration program, click the Retrieve Configuration button.

• Set Time - To synchronize the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder’s internal clock with the PC’s clock, click the Set Time button.

• Export Configuration - The current configuration for a particular EASyIPTV encoder/decoder can be saved as a file. To export a configuration, first select the system then click the Export Configuration button.

• Import Configuration - Exported configuration files can be loaded into the EASyIPTV Configuration program. To load a configuration file, first select the system then click the Import Configuration button.

• COM2 Message Protocol - Use the pull-down list to select the communication protocol used by the COM 2 serial port.

• Enable Lockout for the Ethernet Interface - With this check box selected, the control lockout function can be activated after multiple failed attempts to authenticate. This lockout option only applies to the Ethernet interface.

• Enable Lockout for the Telephone/MODEM Interface - When this check box is selected, the control lockout function can be activated after multiple failed attempts to authenticate. This lockout option only applies to the telephone MODEM interface.

• Lockout after... - These controls are used to set the number of authentication failures required to initiate a lockout, and the number of minutes before the lockout resets and allows access through the locked-out interface.

• Trilithic Messenger Character Generators - Messenger character generators, including the character generator installed in the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, are used to provide NTSC video display as well as baseband audio switching. This video and audio is typically MPEG-encoded and used as a details channel during force-tuned EAS messaging.

• Enable Trilithic Messenger Character Generators - With this check box selected, the internal character generator and the communication interface for external messengers are activated.

The System Settings group contains miscellaneous controls for the EASyIPTV program.

• Enable Custom Messages - With this check box selected, the EASy Custom Messaging program can access and control the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder.

• Analog to Digital Playback Delay - This setting allows the analog playback to be lengthened to allow for propagation delays in digital (Ethernet) activation messages. Delay values are specified in seconds.

• Alert Text Language - Use the pull-down list to select the language option for displaying on-screen alert text to viewers.

The EAS logs will indicate which language the EAS alert was sent with.

• Display Mode - This pull-down list is used to select the video overlay mode for the character generators. The selectable modes function as follows:

• Crawl Over Video Input - This option allows a background page to be inserted at the input to the character generator. EAS text will crawl over this page.

• Full CG Page Always - This option does not allow the video input to be seen at the video output.

• Full CG Page During EAS - This option provides the video input at the video output, except when an EAS message is in progress, at which time the input can no longer be seen at the output.

• Crawl Line - This control box allows the operator to select the area in which an EAS crawl will be shown. 1 is at the top of the screen; 13 is at the bottom of the screen.

• Color - This pull-down list allows a color scheme for the crawl text to be selected.

• Repeat - This control boxes allows the operator to specify the number of times that the EAS message will be displayed. The number of repeats will affect the total duration of the message.

EAS messages use a time stamp to help determine if messages should be retransmitted. An accurate EAS clock is crucial for proper EAS messaging. EAS message time stamps are based on the UTC (universal time coordinated) standard, while text displays are based on local time. It is critical that the system time, time zone, and daylight savings settings of the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder are correct.

• Enable NTP - Select this check box to allow the EASyIPTV to update its internal clock via an NTP server.

• Time Zone - Select the time zone that the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder is located in.

• Primary NTP Server - Enter the IP address of the Primary NTP Server.

• Secondary NTP Server - Enter an IP address for a secondary NTP server, if available.

• NTP Time Sync Interval - Select the time interval (in hours) for the EASyIPTV to synchronize its clock with the NTP server.

The Telephone/MODEM Settings group is used to configure the telephone interface of the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. This interface is used for voice and data communications over standard analog (POTS) telephone lines. The most common use for this interface is local emergency management access to the IPTV system.

• Enable Telephone Data MODEM - Select this check box to enable the MODEM.

• Enable DTMF Touch-Tone Access - Select this check box to enable voice access to the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder via the telephone interface.

• Answer Telephone After - Set the number of telephone rings to allow before the MODEM answers the incoming connection.

• MODEM Timeout if No Activity Occurs for - Set the time (in minutes) until the MODEM disconnects from an idle (no data has been transmitted) connection.

• Telephone Timeout if No Activity Occurs for - Set the time (in seconds) until the telephone interface disconnects if no buttons are pressed on the remote telephone.

• Volume - Set this control to the desired telephone input volume.

Network Settings are required to configure the Ethernet interface for operation on the network.

• Static IP Address - Enter the desired IP address of the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder.

• Subnet Mask - Enter the subnet mask for the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder.

• Default Gateway - Enter the IP address of the gateway.

• DNS Servers - Enter the IP addresses of the primary and secondary domain name servers, if applicable. If no domain name server is to be specified, set the value for each DNS to 0.0.0.0.

• Command TCP Port - Enter the port number used for command and configuration of the EASyNIC (the default value is 59911).

• Connection Timeout - Enter the timeout value (in seconds), after which the EASyIPTV will disconnect from an unresponsive TCP connection.

• IP TTL - Enter the time to live (router hops allowed) value (1 to 255) that will be used for TCP/UDP connections.

• Multicast TTL - Enter the time to live (router hops are allowed) value (1 to 255) that will be used for multicast UDP messages.

• Disable FTP Server - Selecting this will disable the onboard FTP server. Note that the FTP server must be enabled when upgrading the EASyNIC firmware.

• Network Receiver Alert Port - Enter the port for receiving alert messages from Trilithic EAS Network Receivers (if any).

• Audio TCP Port - Enter the TCP port used for transferring alert audio from external servers. The EASyCAP Receiver software/server uses this port for transferring CAP alert audio to the encoder/decoder.

The Counties TabEvery EAS message contains location information that is used by the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder to decide if a message should be sent out. The counties that the system serves must be included in the county list, maintained within the EASyIPTV Configuration program. Nearby counties may be included as well. The term “county” is used loosely, and may be a city or other area specified in the FIPS standard used in EAS.

• County of License - Select the county of license (the county in which the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder resides) from the Selected Counties list by clicking on it once, then clicking the County of License button. The county name will appear in the County of License box.

• Add - To add a county to the areas covered by the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, click the Add button. The pop-up configuration window will appear; select the state that the county resides in, then select the counties to be added. Click the OK button.

Multiple counties can be selected by holding the Control (CTRL) key while clicking on each county name.

• Edit - To divide a county into smaller sections that are covered by the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, select the county from the list of Selected Counties. Click the Edit button to display the County Settings window.

Use the check boxes to select which regions of the selected county will receive EAS messaging from the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. Disabling a County Subdivision will prevent the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder from transmitting EAS messages received for that specific County Subdivision.

Use of County Subdivision is rarely used and must be specified in the EAS State Plan and approved by the FCC. Trilithic recommends that all subdivisions within a county be left at the default active state.

• Delete - To remove a county from the area covered by the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, select the county then click the Delete button.

The EAS TabThe EAS tab is where each EAS event (warning type) is enabled or disabled, and the method of sending each event is configured. An “event” is a three-letter code in the EAS protocol that provides a generic description of a federal, civil, or weather-related hazard condition (or test). By configuring each of the events, the EASyIPTV administrator is choosing which hazards are worthy of interrupting the IPTV broadcast stream. The EASyIPTV Event List also includes nine settings for non-EAS events (LA1 - LA9), which may be generated directly using a telephone or Internet connection. This is provided to fulfill local franchise access requirements for cable and IPTV systems. The EAS tab also includes other settings specific to

Within the EAS Event Configuration list, all available EAS or local access events are listed. To view the configuration parameters for each event within the EAS Event Configuration list, double-click on an event to display the pop-up Event Configuration window, or select the

event by clicking on it once, then click the Edit Event button.

On the Event Configuration window, each of the parameters for the selected EAS event can be configured as follows:

• Enable the EAS Event - Select this check box to allow the EAS event to be retransmitted, once received. To prevent events of this type from being retransmitted, deselect the check box.

• Event Priority - Set the priority level for the selected EAS event (1 - 15) with this control box. This is used by some EAC devices to determine if audio is required, whether or not to force-tune, and which channels will be interrupted with the message. EAN and EAT messages should always be set to priority 15.

• Alert Type - Use this pull-down list to select the type of alert that the selected EAS event is. This may be used to determine how the EAS event is displayed to viewers in a Mediaroom system (it is specifically used for color schemes).

• Custom Event Text - Enter text to be included with the EAS message when it is displayed to viewers. This is only used for presidential messages (EAN and EAT messages). Refer to the EAS Handbook for text requirements.

The EAS Settings group is used to configure EAS parameters.

• Enable CAP Alerts - Allows the EASyIPTV to receive CAP messages from EASyCAP series software or hardware.

• EAS Originator - Identifies the station type for the IPTV system. For IPTV systems, this is usually set to “EAS” which is defined as “EAS participant” in the EAS regulations.

• Station Identification - In the EAS regulations, eight characters are used to enter the call letters of the broadcast station sending the EAS alert. Since call letters do not apply to IPTV systems, enter eight characters that uniquely identify the IPTV system/installation. Hyphens are not allowed in the Call Letters field.

• Default EAN Input - Select the default audio input channel for receiving EAN audio.

• Use Short RWT Text - A short message will be used for Required Weekly Tests. For example: “A Required Weekly Test has been issued by an EAS Participant”.

• Front Panel RWT Includes All Counties - Include all configured counties when encoding an RWT from the front panel menu. If disabled, only the county of license will be included.

• Enable the National Location Code - Enables the use of “000000” as the National Location code. FIPS code “000000” will be interpreted as the entire United States.

• EAN Text uses “United States” as the Area - The effected area shown in the text for an EAN will be “the United States”, regardless of what location codes are received.

• EAN Filter Ignores Location and Originator - An EAN will be accepted (and retransmitted) regardless of the received locations and originator code. Warning: enabling this setting goes against FCC EAS regulations, but ensures that the system will always activate if it receives an EAN.

• EAN Activates All Equipment - All equipment will be activated for an EAN, regardless of any configured location routing.

EAS participants are required to send at least one required weekly test per week. An automatic, pseudo-random required weekly test can be generated by the EASyIPTV. This can be configured from the Automatic RWT Generation Settings group.

• Enable/Disable - Select the county or counties to be used in the automatic weekly test.

• Between the Days - Select the span of days in which the required weekly test should be generated. The test needs to be generated on a different day each week.

• Between the Hours - Set the span of time (including the entire hour of the ending time) in which the test should be generated. The test needs to be generated at a different time each week.

Radio modules are grouped in pairs. The EASyIPTV encoder/decoder is shipped from the factory with radios in each of the two expansion slots. Each of the four radios can independently tune AM, FM, and National Weather Service radio stations. Each of the radios are configured through the Audio Expansion groups and the Radio Receiver groups.

• Audio Expansion 1 - Select the radio button corresponding to the type of device installed in the EASyIPTV’s audio expansion 1 slot (channels 1 and 2). In the standard EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, this will be set to Radio Receiver.

• Audio Expansion 2 - Select the radio button corresponding to the type of device installed in the EASyIPTV’s audio expansion 2 slot (channels 3 and 4). In the standard EASyIPTV encoder/decoder, this will be set to Radio Receiver.

• In each of the available Radio Receiver groups, select the radio band desired (AM, FM, or NOAA).

• In each of the available Radio Receiver groups, set the frequency which each radio receiver will tune to. Refer to your state’s EAS plan for a list of radio stations that should be monitored.

The Audio TabThe Audio tab allows configuration of speaker volume, output volume, voice recordings, and EAS tone volumes.

After setting up radio frequencies and installing the antennas, the radio reception must be verified to ensure that the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder can receive and decode EAS messages.

The EASyIPTV encoder/decoder has two audio recording sections: EAS audio and user audio. EAS audio will change when an EAS message comes in from a monitored radio station. User audio only changes when a new message is manually recorded.

With the exception of recording functions, changes made on the Audio tab will have no effect on the EASyIPTV until the settings are uploaded by clicking the Program Audio Configuration button on the Audio tab or the Program Configuration button on the Main tab.

• Speaker Volume - This control is used to set the front panel speaker volume. The front panel speaker is used to allow operators to hear incoming messages that pass retransmit filters, and to hear outgoing messages. It can also be used to verify the quality of incoming signals.

• Source - This control is used to temporarily route an input line to the front panel speaker for verifying incoming audio. For example, setting this control to CH3, then programming the configuration will cause the front panel speaker to play the radio 3 input. Return this control to DSP when finished checking inputs.

• Master Output Volume - This control sets the volume of all EAS audio outputs from the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. This includes the volume of the audio switch output during EAS operations.

• Source - This pull-down list is used to temporarily route an input line to audio outputs 1 through 4 on the back of the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. The normal position for this control is DSP.

• WAV File Volume - This pull-down us used to set the volume for WAV files sent to the EAC (emergency alert controller).

• Sample Size - This pull-down list allows the wave file to the EAC to be adjusted between 8 bit audio and 16 bit audio.

• Sample Rate - This pull-down list allows the WAV file sent to the EAC to be adjusted between 5500 samples per second and 8000 samples per second.

• ATT 853 Hz Amplitude - This control is used to set the relative volume of the 853 Hz tone that is part of the EAS dual-tone (attention tone). A setting of 28 is recommended unless EAS tones fail to meet FCC requirements. Use the Master Output Volume control to adjust all EAS tones simultaneously.

• ATT 960 Hz Amplitude - This control is used to set the relative volume of the 960 Hz tone that is part of the EAS dual-tone (attention tone). A setting of 28 is recommended unless EAS tones fail to meet FCC requirements. Use the Master Output Volume control to adjust all EAS tones simultaneously.

• FSK 1562.5 Hz Amplitude - This control is used to set the relative volume of the EAS “space” tone that is used to transmit EAS FSK data. A setting of 48 is recommended unless EAS tones fail to meet FCC requirements. Use the Master Output Volume control to adjust all EAS tones simultaneously.

• FSK 2083.3 Hz Amplitude - This control is used to set the relative volume of the EAS “mark” tone that is used to transmit EAS FSK data. A setting of 48 is recommended unless EAS tones fail to meet FCC requirements. Use the Master Output Volume control to adjust all EAS tones simultaneously.

The Record/Playback Audio Files group is used to record audio messages in the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. Through this group, audio messages can also be played back to verify the content and quality of the message.

• Audio File - Use this pull-down list to select the audio storage section to record or play back. The EAS audio section is used for EAS events.

• Source - Select the source (microphone or one of the six internal audio inputs) from which the audio will be recorded.

• Record - Click the Record button and speak into the microphone on the front of the EASyIPTV to record a message from the front panel microphone. While the message is being recorded, the Record button will change to a Stop button. Click the Stop button to end the audio tone playback.

• Playback - Click this button to play the audio message that has been recorded. While the audio message is playing, the Playback button will change to a Stop button. Click the Stop button to end the audio message playback.

• Upload - Click this button to upload an audio file (WAV format) via Ethernet.

The Audio Tone Calibration group is used to generate the tones used in EAS. It allows the tones to be played individually, or combined to create specific EAS tones.

• Select Audio Tone - Use this pull-down list to select which of the audio tones to listen to and play back, for audio calibration.

• Play Tone - Click this button to play the tone which was selected in the Select Audio Tone pull-down list. While the audio tone is playing, the Play Tone button will change to a Stop button. Click the Stop button to end the audio tone playback.

• Activate Audio Switches During Playback - Select this check box to trigger the encoder/decoder’s audio switch while the tone is being played. If normal program audio is connected to the audio switch input, the input will be cut off and replaced with the audio tone.

• Add - Click this button to allow a new user to access the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. The pop-up User Account Settings window will open.

The EASyIPTV Configuration program will not allow multiple user accounts to be created with the same password. Each user account must be assigned a unique password.

In the User Account Settings window, enter the following:

• User Name - Enter the account name for the user.

• User Password - Enter the password that the user will use to access the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. Re-enter the password in the Confirm Password text box to ensure it has been entered correctly.

• User PIN - Enter a PIN (personal identification number) for the user to use with touch-tone telephone access (the PIN will also be used to access the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder via the front panel and via telephone). Re-enter the PIN in the Confirm PIN text box to ensure it has been entered correctly.

• Access Rights - Select the check boxes which correspond to the features the user will have access to.

• Allowed Interfaces - Select the interfaces that the user is allowed to access.

• User Counties - Use the three pull-down lists to select the county or counties to include in EAS messages generated by the user.

• Add - Click this button to add a new EAC and show the EAC Server Settings window.

• Name - Enter a name that will be used to identify the new EAC.

• Protocol Type - Use this pull-down list to select the protocol type that the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder will use to communicate with the EAC.

• SA DNCS - This protocol uses the FTP protocol to transfer text and WAV files, then follows the transfer with a TCP socket connection on port 4098 to inform the EAC that the files have been transferred. The SA DNCS protocol was previously known as the DVS-168 protocol.

• DCM Splicer - This protocol uses an HTTP POST to upload alert information and text to a Cisco DCM Splicer. Audio is not included in this protocol. Audio replacement is handled by use of a general purpose input on the DCM.

• FTP Alert Protocol and Text - This protocol is a simple FTP file transfer. Alert text and audio (WAV file) is transferred to the configured FTP server.

• EAS Text Protocol - This protocol provides EAS protocol text and EAS translation text on the (default) TCP 4670 port. It provides both a start communication, and a stop communication, allowing synchronized forced-tuning of downstream set-top boxes.

• Mediaroom Protocol Adapter - An adaptation of the DVS-168 protocol that uses the TCP socket on port 4098 to transfer text, audio, and alert information to the EAC. This is used exclusively for communication to a server running the Trilithic EAC software in a Mediaroom system.

• Use the EAS Duration - If this check box is not selected, the EAS message will crawl continuously until the message reaches its expiration time.

• Include text file with an EAN - Select this check box to transfer the text file containing the EAS message via FTP, prior to initiating the EAS message.

• Include text file with an EAN - Select this option to prevent the EASyIPTV from sending an EOM when an abort is issued. Using the EOM as an abort message is not an official part of the specification and may not be supported by all devices.

• Locations - Click this button to open the Locations window.

• Enable All Locations - If selected, the EAC will receive messages for all of the configured locations and users (for non-EAS messages).

• Locations/Users Serviced - If the Enable All Locations is not enabled, select the locations and users that should activate the EAC. This option will allow each EAC to serve a different geographical location, and to prevent unnecessary interruption if the message is not intended for the location serviced by the EAC.

• Edit - Select the EAC to be edited from the list, then click the Edit button to open the pop-up EAC Server Settings window. Any of the selected EAC’s properties can be edited, in the same manner as they were entered with the Add button.

• Delete - Select the EAC to be deleted from the list, then click the Delete button.

• Test - Click this button to send a simulated EAS alert to the selected EAC. The Test button is intended as a setup and troubleshooting tool. It does not replace a legitimate EAS message, and is not intended to be used for system verification. It does not satisfy any legal requirements for EAS testing.

In order to return the contact closure to its normal position, use the Test Mode pull-down list to select OFF and then click the Test button.

The SCTE-18 TabSCTE-18 (also known as ANSI J-STD-042) is a “client-side” specification that is used by digital cable-ready televisions (DCRs) and other cable tuner devices. SCTE-18 messages contain all the information in the EAS protocol text, as well as the text translation and timing information that set-top boxes need to display EAS text or to force-tune the set-top box to a details channel for text and audio.

• Name - Enter a name to identify the SCTE-18 recipient.

• Transport Type - Select the transport protocol, including the Ethernet protocol (UDP or TCP) and the data encapsulation (MPEG packets, unencapsulated table, or DOCSIS set-top gateway header). DSG uses the UDP Ethernet protocol.

• IP Address - Enter the IP address of the transport.

• Port - Enter the TCP/UDP Port number (default is 5050).

• PID - Enter the PID (packet ID) for the SCTE-18 message (if using MPEG packets).

• Repeat Rate - Enter the period (in seconds) between repeating SCTE-18 messages (enter zero for no repeats).

• Out-of-Band Source ID - Select the Details Source ID and Audio Source ID of the details channel (if the SCTE-18 message is transported out-of-band).

• In-Band Channels - Set the major and minor channel numbers for the details channel if the SCTE-18 message is transported in-band.

• Send Message Twice - If enabled, new messages will be sent twice to the SCTE-18 device, incrementing the sequence_number between sends. This helps to insure that recipient devices do not discard the alert due to a duplicate sequence_number.

• Use Discontinuity Indicator - Select this option to include an adaptation field and discontinuity indicator at the beginning of each SCTE-18 table transmission.

• Exclude Crawl Text - Prevent the crawl text from being included in the SCTE-18 message. This is used to prevent MTU spanning on forced-tune only systems.

• Exclude Event Start Time - Set the message start time to 0 (always valid).

• Determine Duration from the Audio - If enabled, the alert_message_time_remaining will be determined from the audio duration, video duration is ignored. This may be used on edge digital-to-analog devices that perform their own video crawl.

• Disable Abort Messages - Prevent abort messages from being sent when an operator manually aborts a message.

• Repeat new messages - Enter the number of times to repeat a new EAS message in order to establish an MPEG stream. The continuity_indicator will be incremented for each packet sent

• Settings Group - Allows several SCTE-18 devices to be managed as a group by assigning them the same Settings Group value.

• Locations - Opens a window to configure which locations and user accounts will activate the device.

• Enable All Locations - Enables the SCTE-18 device for all transmitted EAS messages

• Locations/Users Serviced - Select the locations and users that should activate the SCTE-18 device. This allows each device to serve a different geographical location, and prevents unnecessary interruptions.

• Click OK to accept the changes.

• Exceptions - Opens a window to configure which channels should not respond to SCTE-18 messages (usually local broadcast channels).

• ADD - Select In-Band Exception Reference if the exception is an in-band designator (source ID). Edit the Source ID, or the Major and Minor channel numbers, then click the ADD button.

• MODIFY - Highlight an existing exception, change the settings, then click the MODIFY button.

• DELETE - Select the exception from the Exception List, then click the Delete button.

• SCTE-18 Descriptors - Up to four SCTE-18 descriptors can be added to an SCTE-18 message. If the Vecima descriptor is used, only one descriptor is allowed.

• Add Descriptor - To add a new descriptor, select Add Descriptor from the pull-down list. The SCTE-18 Private Descriptors window will appear. Select the type of descriptor from the pull-down list to display the settings. Edit the descriptor settings and then click the OK button to save the configuration changes.

• Edit Descriptor - Select a descriptor to edit from the SCTE-18 Descriptors pull-down list and then click the Edit button. Edit the settings and then click the OK button to save the configuration changes.

• Delete Descriptor - Select a descriptor to delete from the SCTE-18 Descriptors pull-down list and then click the Edit button. Change the descriptor type to “None, do not include (or remove existing) descriptor” and then click the OK button.

• A custom descriptor type is provided to enter descriptors not defined or supported in the GUI. When entering a custom descriptor you must enter the raw binary data that goes into the descriptor. The data is entered as hexadecimal values. All of the descriptor data, including the descriptor_tag and descriptor_length, must be included.

• Click the Accept button to save changes.

• Edit - To modify an SCTE-18 device in the list, select the device then click the Edit button. A pop-up window will appear; edit the fields as described in this chapter.

• Add to Group - Using this button will add a new SCTE-18 device by copying the device that is highlighted in the SCTE-18 Devices list. The highlighted message is copied with the exception of the name and IP address. Once added, the message can be edited individually, or as part of a group.

• Edit Group - Using this button opens the selected device for editing, however any changes to the configuration effect all of the devices with the same Settings Group. Settings that must be individually configured are “grayed-out” in the interface.

• Delete - To delete a device, first select it from the list by clicking on it once, then click the Delete button.

• Test - Click this button to send a simulated EAS alert to the selected SCTE-18 device. The Test button is intended as a setup and troubleshooting tool. The SNMP TabThe SNMP tab allows the configuration of simple network management protocol options, including enabling and disabling SNMP capabilities, and configuring IP addresses for trap recipients (SNMP servers).

• Enable SNMP - This check box is the master enable/disable control for SNMP. Select this check box if any SNMP functions are desired.

• Allow Alerts to be Aborted - Select this check box to allow EAS messages in progress to be cancelled/aborted by means of SNMP commands.

• Allow Alerts to be Encoded - Select this option to allow EAS messages to be encoded/transmitted using SNMP. This should only be enabled for laboratory use or for generating the required weekly test.

• Allow System Control and Tests - Select this check box to allow the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder outputs to be controlled over SNMP.

• Allow Configuration via SNMP - Select this check box to allow the encoder/decoder’s configuration to be modified using SNMP.

• Add - To add an SNMP server to receive trap messages, click the Add button. The pop-up Add a SNMP Server window will appear.

• IP Address - Enter the IP address of the SNMP server.

• Trap Port - Enter the UDP port used to send traps (the default value is 162).

• Enable Heartbeat Trap Messages - Enable periodic traps to be sent, indicating that the EASyIPTV is online and functioning. The frequency averages two traps per minute.

• Enable Fault and Status Trap Messages - Select this option to enable fault and status trap messages. Refer to the current MIB for details.

• Enable EAS Activation Trap Messages - EAS activation traps are generated when EAS messages are sent by the EASyIPTV. Select this option to enable EAS activation trap messages. EAS activation trap messages are used to inform operators that the EAS system has been activated.

• Enable EAS Logging Trap Messages - EAS logging traps occur when the EASyIPTV saves a new log to its internal memory. Select this option to enable EAS logging traps.

• Edit - To modify an SNMP device configuration, select the device by clicking on it once then click the Edit button. The pop-up SNMP Server Settings window will appear. Edit the text fields as described in this chapter.

• Delete - To delete an SNMP server, first select the server from the list by clicking on it once then click the Delete button.

After changing SNMP settings, the encoder/decoder must be rebooted for the changes to take effect.

Visionary TabThe Visionary tab is used to configure communications between the EASyIPTV and the Visionary HD-SDI overlay system. The configuration process includes specifying an IP address, port numbers, display options, and locations that the Visionary serves.

Prior to configuring individual Visionary devices, general parameters for all configured Visionary’s must be set. Perform the following general configuration parameters.

1. Select the Show EAS Event Static Text check box if the EAS event name should be shown.

• Use the Position control box to set the vertical location for the EAS text. The top edge of the text is referenced by the location coordinate. 1 is closest to the top of the screen; 479 is closest to the bottom of the screen.

• Use the Size control box to set the size (in points) of the EAS text. 1 is the smallest text size; 40 is the largest text size.

• Use the Font pull-down list to select the font for the EAS text. Each of the three EAS fonts are configured using the Visionary Configuration software. Refer to the Visionary Configuration software manual for instruction in EAS font configuration.

2. The Crawl Text group allows adjustment of the movement and font parameters for on-screen display of EAS crawl text.

• Use the Position control box to set the vertical location of the EAS crawl text. The top edge of the text is referenced by the location coordinate. 1 is closest to the top of the screen; 479 is closest to the bottom of the screen.

• Use the Speed control box to set the speed at which the EAS text crawls across the screen. 1 is the slowest speed; 10 is the fastest speed.

• Use the Repeats control box to enter the number of times that the crawl text will be displayed. The text may be repeated as many as 99 times.

• Use the Size control box to set the size (in points) of the EAS text. 1 is the smallest text size; 40 is the largest text size.

• Use the Font pull-down list to select the font for the EAS text. Each of the three EAS fonts are configured using the Visionary Configuration software. Refer to the Visionary Configuration software manual for instruction in EAS font configuration.

3. In the Crawl and Text Colors group, set the color display parameters for the on-screen display of EAS crawl and static text. This group allows custom color settings to be applied to each type of EAS alert (watches, warnings, tests, etc.).

• Use the top-left pull-down list to select the text to be configured. For each item in the list, the color can be set individually.

• Use the Font Color pull-down list to select from a list of colors. Click the color name that will be applied to the selected EAS text.

• Use the Background Color pull-down list to select from a list of background colors. Click the color name that will be applied behind the EAS text.

• Use the Edge Color pull-down list to select from a list of colors that will be applied to the edges (outlines) of the EAS text characters.

4. Additional Configuration Options

• Select the Bold Text check box to display the EAS static or crawl text as bold.

• Select the Images on Top check box to display EAS logos or icons, or station identification logos as the top layer over EAS static or crawl text.

Adding a Visionary DeviceTo add a Visionary device to the list of managed devices, perform the following procedure.

1. To add a Visionary device to the list, click the Add button.

2. In the pop-up Add a Visionary Overlay Device window, enter a name in the text box. This will be used to identify the Visionary device.

3. Enter the IP Address of the Visionary Overlay device.

4. Enter the TCP Port number for communication with the EASyIPTV (the default setting is 59901).

5. Enter the Streaming Port number, which allows the EASyIPTV to send streaming audio to the Visionary device (the default setting is 59902).

6. Use the Resolution pull-down list to select the default screen resolution of the Visionary.

7. Select the Show EAS Alert Image check box to display an on-screen EAS image or icon to accompany the EAS event.

8. Use the EAS Alert Image X Position control box to set the horizontal location for the EAS image or icon. 1 is furthest left; 852 is furthest right.

9. Use the EAS Alert Image Y Position control box to set the vertical location for the EAS image or icon. 1 is closest to the top of the screen; 479 is closest to the bottom of the screen.

10. Select the Show Station ID Logo check box to display an on-screen station identification logo.

12. Use the Station ID Logo Group Y Position to set the vertical location for the station identification logo. 1 is at the top of the screen, and 479 is at the bottom.

13. Select the Full screen replacement during alert messages check-box to replace the entire screen during alert messages.

14. Select the background color for full-page replacements in the Screen Background Color drop-down box.

15. Select the Use Streaming Audio for Open Ended Audio check box to stream audio over the network for messages which do not have a finite message duration (such as a presidential EAN).

If the EASyIPTV and Visionary are installed in the same location, It is preferable to wire the audio output from the EASyIPTV to the audio input of the Visionary instead of streaming audio over the network.

16. Select the Use Input Trigger (GPI-2) check box to force the Visionary to wait for a contact closure on general purpose input 2 before sending the message.

17. Select the Hold-Off Input (GPI-4) check box to force the Visionary to wait for an open condition on general purpose input 4 prior to sending the message.

18. Click the Locations button to display a list of locations and users.

19. Select the Enable All Locations check box to activate the Visionary for all transmitted EAS messages.

20. In the Select All Serviced Locations & Users window, select the locations that the Visionary serves, as well as the users who can activate the Visionary. This allows each Visionary to serve a different geographical location, and prevents unnecessary interruptions.

21. Click the OK button to accept changes.

Editing a Visionary DeviceTo change the existing Visionary configuration:

1. Select the device in the Visionary Overlay Devices list, then click the Edit button.

2. The pop-up Modify a Visionary Overlay Device window will appear.

The process to edit a Visionary device is the same as adding a new device.

Refer to the Adding a Visionary Device section for detailed instructions in editing a Visionary Overlay device.

3. Click the OK button to complete the editing process.

The Logs TabEAS logs must be checked frequently to ensure test messages are received from each monitored radio station, and that these tests are processed correctly by the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. Additionally, at least one EAS activation of the station is required each week (normally a required weekly test), on a different day and at a different time, each week. The EAS log is proof to the FCC that these receipts and activations have occurred. EASyIPTV logs may be retrieved from the encoder/decoder’s internal memory using a computer.

The following options are encoder/decoder configuration options:

• Printer Port - Use the Printer Port pull-down list to disable the printer port of the encoder/decoder, or to enable it and select the maximum number of characters per line.

• Enable Logs for User Activity - Select this check box to include logs concerning the user account which is used to generate messages.

• Enable Logs for Network Devices - Select this check box to include information regarding Ethernet message delivery and EAC status. Enabling this option may significantly reduce the available log resources of the encoder/decoder and produce lengthy EAS logs.

After selecting the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder (on the Main tab), the follow operations can be performed:

• Download - Use this button to retrieve the EAS logs from the encoder/decoder. Downloading logs from the encoder/decoder does not remove them from the encoder/decoder.

• Save - Click the Save button to save the current log to the hard drive. A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to select a location in which to save the logs. The log will contain the same information that is visible in the configuration software’s log screen.

• Print - Use the Print button to print the currently-displayed EAS logs to the default Windows printer.

• Clear - Use this button to clear the currently-displayed logs from the EASyIPTV Configuration program.

• Delete - The Delete button will erase the log in the encoder/decoder, and will prevent the same EAS log from being downloaded in the future.

The radio buttons within the Download Filters group allow the user to select which types of logs will be retrieved from the encoder/decoder.

• All - Select this radio button to retrieve all types of logs stored on the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder.

• All Alert Activity - Select this option to retrieve incoming alert, outgoing alert, alert delivery, and EAC status logs.

• Alert RX/TX - Select this option to retrieve incoming and outgoing alert logs.

• Alert Status - Select this option to retrieve network delivery and EAC status logs.

• System Status - Select this option to retrieve encoder/decoder status logs not pertaining to alerts.

The following option only applies to the configuration software display.

• Word Wrap - Select this check box to wrap text lines which do not fit within the boundaries of the EASyIPTV Log window.

• License Feature - Click this button to add a license. Instructions for the use of this interface are provided with the individual license keys purchased from Trilithic.

• Check Time - Click this button to retrieve the current time of the encoder/decoder clock.

• Encoder - Click this button to open the message encoding utility screen. On this screen, the operator can manually trigger a required weekly test, or any other EAS event. An EAS message other than a required weekly test must be accompanied by a voice message explaining the emergency or test.

• Select Event - Use this pull-down list to select the EAS event that will be generated. A voice message must be recorded prior to generating any event other than a required weekly test. Failure to do so may result in unintentional activation of the last emergency voice message received by the encoder/decoder.

• Select Counties/Areas for the Event - Select the counties to be included in the EAS message. Up to 31 counties can be selected.

• Event Duration - Select the effective time (not the display time) of the message. Legitimate times are 15, 30, and 45 minutes; 1 hour; and 30 minute increments after 1 hour.

• EAS Header - This box displays the EAS protocol text (with the exception of the origination time and call letters) for the EAS message.

• Send Event to Encoder - Click this button to send the command to generate an EAS alert for the configured message. The encoder/decoder will begin sending the alert once this button is clicked.

• Close Encoder - Click this button to exit from the encoding interface and return to the utility selection screen.

• Test Audio - Click this button to activate specific control lines while sending EAS tones or recorded voice messages. In order to perform these tests, the operator should know which TTL and contact closures are connected to the audio equipment.

• Test CGs - The EASyIPTV video tests allow an operator to activate specific control lines while sending video from the EAS character generator(s). In order to perform these tests, the operator should know which TTL and contact closures are required to route video.

• Program IP Settings - Click this button to send the IP address configured on the General tab to the encoder/decoder. The communication occurs over the interface that had been specified on the Main tab. The encoder/decoder must be re-booted after changing network settings.

• Set User Defaults - Click this button revert the encoder/decoder user accounts to their default values. Once the default settings have been programmed, the administrator password (Administrator) can be used to access the EASyIPTV encoder/decoder. This command only works over the RS-232 (serial) interface.

• Select the Use a serial port to upgrade the EASyIPTV mainboard firmware check-box to use a serial port for upgrading the EASyIPTV mainboard firmware. Note that an Ethernet connection is required to upgrade the EASyNIC firmware. If a serial port is used for the firmware upgrade, press the Select Com Port button to select the correct computer serial port. A window will pop up to allow the serial port to be selected from the list of available devices. Connect the serial cable between this port on the computer and the COM-1 port on the EASyIPTV

• If Ethernet is used for the firmware upgrade, enter the correct IP Address and TCP Port for the EASyIPTV in the provided fields.

• Click the Continue button again to proceed with the firmware upgrade.

• The screen will refresh to display the firmware files that need to be upgraded. The software automatically detects which files need to be upgraded. If you want to select different files to upgrade, press the Advanced button.

• Abort Alert - Click this button to cancel an EAS message in progress. Results of sending an “abort” may vary depending on the interface, communication protocol, and the IPTV system. The abort function is a “best attempt” by the encoder/decoder to stop downstream messaging.

• Enable EAN Test Message - Display the EAN test message the next time an EAN is received. After the test message is shown, this option is automatically disabled. Also note that this setting is volatile and needs to be applied if the encoder/decoder reboots.

• Reset Hardware - Send a reset command to the encoder/decoder. Use this button after modifying any configuration that alters the network settings, including any settings that require the encoder/decoder to monitor additional Ethernet ports.

• System Wide Abort Utility - Click this button to initiate a means to contact multiple encoder/decoders within a system and trigger an abort procedure. If an encoder/decoder is in the process of receiving an EAS message, the abort procedure will trigger the encoder/decoder to discontinue processing the message. If an encoder/decoder is in the process of sending an EAS message, the abort procedure will trigger the encoder/decoder to end its analog activations and send Ethernet messages to EAC and SCTE-18 devices in an attempt to stop their displays.

OverviewThe EASyIPTV encoder/decoder logs provide information on the major activities of the encoder/decoder, and specifically address federal requirements for EAS compliance. In general, logs occur chronologically, in the order in which the encoder/decoder becomes aware of an activity. This may not be the case when the logs are from peripheral devices, or when the encoder/decoder has grouped together related information.

The Log HeaderThe first lines of the encoder/decoder log (if downloaded from the EASyIPTV Configuration program) contain the date and time that the log was downloaded, the number of records downloaded, and the versions of the encoder/decoder software components.
