4th Sunday of Kingdomtide

10:30 am Even as we’ve celebrated our nation’s history, let us remember that “[God’s] kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and [his] dominion endures throughout

all generations” (Psalm 145:13, NRSV).

Easy Peasy Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30

We sometimes hear the phrase "easy peasy" used to de-scribe something easy to do. We like things to be easy, but forget that easy is the result of the work of someone who made something complicated into something easy for us.

In today's text Jesus reminds us, "My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light." That is true because Jesus does the complicated part, and makes it easy peasy to follow him. There is just one thing to do ...

Today we discover what that one thing is. Easy peasy.

A Sunday school teacher was teaching a group of youngsters about the Israelites in the Old Testament. She kept referring to the Jews as the “children of Israel.” A little girl interrupted her, wanting permission to ask a question. “Certainly,” the teacher responded. “Well,” the child said, “you keep talking about the children of Israel. The children of Israel crossed the Red Sea. The children of Israel built the temple. The children of Israel did this and did that. Didn’t the grown-ups ever do anything?” Questions: What are we grown-ups doing to show that we are faithful children of God today? What is our mission? What is our calling? What does the Lord require of us to prove that we are God’s loving and serv-ing children today?

Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. 1 Timothy 4:14
