Spring 2011 NJROTC Eastside High School What a difference a year makes! The NJROTC Unit has drastically improved in the past year. We have gone from one of the lowest ranking units in the Area 7 region to being awarded the unit achievement award for demonstrating exceptional performance and also the United States Navy League Most Improved Unit in Area 7. This past year for us has been very difficult yet extremely rewarding. As you may know last year we were at the point of disbandment, but were able to overcome the many obstacles and difficulties through dedication and determination from the cadets. Bad to the Bone Physical Challenge Recently, we went to Ocala and participated in a competition, “Bad to the Bone Physical Challenge,” hosted by the Marion County Sheriff Department in which we won first place in female sit ups, second place in both tug of war, and the female physical ability course. Additionally, we have successfully participated in many air rifle competitions winning numerous trophies throughout the year. In fact overall, we have won more trophies this year then any other year since the unit’s inception. There are a total of 10 seniors graduating this year who will be going to college and some who will be going into the military. As the year is ending we are progressing toward becoming a battalion next year, which requires us to have at least 150 cadets. As our higher ranking seniors depart, they pass on their knowledge and responsibilities and hope that others utilize that knowledge to help improve our unit for years to come.
