Parker offering to go without
his sandwich being toasted
so that Phoebe and Amy
would not miss out,
Catherine popping in with
Parker’s forgotten lunchbox
and then staying for recess
and Nena Hicks popping in to
introduce her new visitors
from The Netherlands.
Our school is always open to
everyone so if you feel like a
touch of warmth on these
bitterly cold days please pop
in.
Keep smiling!
Welcome back to our short-
est term this year. However,
there is much happening this
term and for this reason the
children have taken home a
term calendar to help you
with organization.
Tuesday, Thursday and
some Wednesday afternoons
I have video conference
meetings until 4.30 so timely
pickups would be appreciat-
ed.
May is the Cancer Councils
Biggest Morning Tea month
and once again we will be
hosting one for the Now-
endoc Community. Please
see the notice in this Shout
for the date and time. We
look forward to catching up
with many of you.
Our first week has flown by.
Everyone arrived back with
smiles and much chatter
about their holidays. One of
the pleasures of Nowendoc
Public is the simple warmth
of the children’s smiles and
genuine happiness at being
at school.
A couple of little snippets
from this first week that
brought a smile to our faces:
Mrs Lyon arriving for Monday
sewing and a swarm of little
bodies descending upon her;
the ‘big’ kids helping the
‘little’ kids attach paper to the
new Art easels so they could
draw before we began our
formal morning session,
Nick, feeling much more at
ease after a term of getting to
know me, chuckling
and saying,’ oh Mrs
Bourke’ when I was
trying to find some-
thing for the ump-
teenth time,

Our writing theme at the
moment is cold weather
due to the nasty change in
the weather. All the stu-
dents are using the app,
Book Creator, to write a
book called “I’m Cold!”.
Book Creator allows the
students to present their
story by typing, writing
with a pen or recording
themselves, catering for
everyone’s learning needs.
Students can then illus-
trate their work by taking
photos, drawing or import-
ing pictures from the inter-
net. Everyone is enjoying
using the iPads in class this
term, with many of the
learning apps either free or
costing only a few dollars,
making them accessible at
home and school.
Parker, Emily, Phoebe,
Charlotte, Nick and Amy
have completed some beau-
tiful Mother’s Day gifts. I
hope all the mums have
great Mother’s Day on
Sunday.

Measuring Me
Our first week back we headed outside to investigate
how we had grown taller. Nick and Amy used unifix
cubes to count by ones whilst Charlotte, Phoebe, Emily
and Parker used MAB blocks to count by tens and
ones.
Who was the tallest?

Our Holidays
On the holidays I saw an echidna. It was a BIG echidna.
On Monday the vet came to do preg testing. I fell off the horse and it hurt. I had to go to hos-
pital. It was the Walcha Hospital. I had to have some Panadol.
On another day we went to Top Station to have a barbeque. The next morning it was Easter
and I got a chocolate rabbit with smartees inside it. Then we had an Easter egg hunt and I
found the most.
Phoebe, year 2
On the holidays I went to Grandma’s house. I had fun...heaps of fun!!!! One of the things I
liked was that I got the book, Lord of the Rings. It burst my head off!
Another thing I liked was going to the Easter Show. It was fun. There was a big slide and
two roller coasters. I went on one, the other one was bad because it twirled round like this
@@@@. It did not look nice at all and I saw two of the people get off and spew up. That’s
why I did not go on it.
The day after the Show I bought Kids Monopoly. Grandma and I played it and the game
went forever because we didn’t stop when we ran out of money. In the end I won.
The next day I went home. I went to sleep!
Parker, year 3
On the holidays we went to Louie’s to have a barbeque. Then we had an Easter hunt. After
that we had dinner at Louie’s. I had lots of fun.
Charlotte, year 1
On the holidays we went camping at Ben and Kristy’s house. They had two boys and one
girl. The two boys had motor bikes so we rode ours too.
On Saturday I woke and I saw Blake on Mum and Dad’s mattress so everyone woke up.
We had breakfast and then we went to a party. We went back to the camp when it was
night time.
In the morning the Easter Bunny came to camp. We had chocolate for breakfast before we
drove home. I t was night and we were very tired when we got home. Mum and Dad said,
‘Good Night”.
Emily, year 3
National Family Reading Month
May is National Family Reading Month
This provides a wonderful opportunity for your family
to form reading
habits that you can follow for the entire year and
beyond.
So snuggle up and share a book!
