Still on the ship, Samuel Medley returned to his room, found the Bible his grandfather had given him and began to read. When his ship reached shore, he went to his grandfather’s to recover. During his recovery his grandfather read him a sermon written by Isaac Watts. Medley’s heart was so moved, he converted and became a Christian immediately. He be-gan to worship at a Baptist Church and opened a school that ran for nearly six years successfully. ……...to be continued next week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MISSIONARY LIFE
Try to imagine balancing homeschooling, housework, ministry and family life in a different culture, climate and belief system from what you are accustomed. This is what missionaries with young families endeavour to do every day. Please remember the Kuhn family working on Bible translation into the Nizaa language in Cameroon, Africa. Rev. Mike Kuhn, his wife Kara and their three children, Tobias, Gideon and Gloria appreciate your continued prayer and financial. support.
HYMN HISTORY - I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVES
Often times, some of the best known works in the religious world come from people that did not begin their life in a religious way. Samuel Medley was a prime example. He was the son of a school teacher but was educated privately by his grandfather. While studying Medley was taught to live faithfully by Christian val-ues, but he was not interested in following what was being taught. He became friends with boys who were also not interest in living for God and led a life full of sin. At 14 he got an apprentice with an oil-man in Lon-don but after 3 years, found a loop hole to escape from an apprenticeship by joining the British Royal Navy. Life in the Navy did nothing to turn Medley toward God and he became more crass and profane.
In 1759, during the Seven Year’s War, his ship was engaged in battle and his leg was severely injured. The doctor pronounced one evening that the leg would have to be amputated by morning, as it had grown worse after the battle. Medley remembered what his grandfather had taught him and prayed that his leg would be spared. Upon examination in the morning the doctor cancelled the amputation, much to every-one’s surprise. The leg had sufficiently healed overnight! Continued on back page
Spring Rains Hosea 6:3
It is the Easter season And a time so glorious
To remember the Christ And what He did for us.
He died on the cross All our sins to bear. In the history of man No time is so rare.
I've been to Jerusalem A dream that came true. And I hope that for many
You can do so too.
When He is coming Even the angels don't know.
Just put your trust in Him And be ready to go.
So keep watching and waiting In your heart keep a song.
By the signs of the time It may not be too long.
