• You can tell from the opening credits that the soap is set in the east end.

• You know its modern from the millennium dome in the picture.

• From the River Thames the viewers are aware that the soap is set in London.

• From the opening music we assume that the characters will be common , working class with quite boring lives. I get this from the dull tone of the music.

• The BBC logo is clearly stated underneath signifying the institution is broadcasted by the BBC .

• From the props the audience can already see that there is a child living in the house by the sports bags and football this also connotes that its a boy.

• The dull lighting suggests it is set in early hours of the morning,

• The performance from the actor (tying her dressing gown) represents the one night stand prior to this scene. Also denoting that she has no clothes on under the dressing gown.

• The misenscene reflects pink toys on the stairs highlight that there is also a young girl living in the house.

• The old fashioned decorating connotes cheap and tacky taste . House not been decorated for a while, common house denoting working class. Leopard print wallpaper, not tastefully decorated.

• The jumper on the banister is big thus rep0resenting the age of the boy (young teenager)
