One of our very own small local businesses is starting to make its mark on the world of farming and food in a big way.

Elms Farm Costock has recently been nominated for two of this year’s Countryside Alliance Awards.

One award is for Best Butchery and the second is the Clarissa Dickson Wright Special Award for those who work hard to campaign, educate and prioritise slow food in its taste and quality, showing real support for all UK farmers and producers.

Chris and Phil (pictured on the front page), two of the Elms Farm team, headed to London in their finest tweed - just in case anyone confused them for city bankers - to the finalists’ awards reception being hosted at the prestigious House of Lords in Westminster.

They told the East Leake Local News: “The day started well with a fine breakfast.

“This was followed by some cultural enjoyment in the Imperial War Museum and then onto the event itself.

“It was full of interesting people, all making their own great contributions to the UK’s food and farming industry.”

The Rural Oscars, as it is affectionately known, is becoming

a national countryside award to be proud of and the competition was fierce.

This was the very first year Elms Farm has entered the competition and they can be proud of their fantastic achievements.

They made it through to be a regional finalist for Best Butchery, Midlands and even more impressive, a place nationally in the final three for the Clarissa Dickson Wright Award.

This award was for their work in fostering rare breeds, helping the public connect with the food on their plate and educating people on bureaucratic misinformation out there.

For Elms Farm, it was a runners-up place this year but with a huge thumbs-up for helping Nottinghamshire farming, food and countryside management take its place on the map.

Chris and Phill added: “We look forward now to 2020 with real great expectations.”

To find out more about their work in countryside management, animal rearing and the food production efforts at Elms Farm Costock, please visit the website by logging onto elmsfarmcostock.co.uk.

East Leake Academy student company Recycled Time have gone one step further in a national business competition, after being awarded the Young Enterprise East Midlands Company of the Year accolade at an awards presentation at Nottingham Trent University. The team’s success comes after recently being crowned the Nottinghamshire Young Enterprise winners in May, and now puts the budding entrepreneurs in the running for the ultimate position of UK Company of the Year at the national finals in London.

Thomas Richards, East Leake student and managing director of Recycled Time, said: “It was an amazing experience to attend such a prestigious event and to be a part of such a strong group of teams. It was a great feeling to see all of our efforts recognised with a win and to now have the honour of representing the East Midlands at the national final.”

This is the seventh year the academy, which is part of the Diverse Academies Learning Partnership, has taken part in the Young Enterprise programme – challenging young people to design and create a product or service and market this to make a profit. Recycled Time is made up

of year 12 students. Its members formed the actual company, opened a business bank account and had weekly meetings with the academy co-ordinator and Young Enterprise business advisor. The team attended various markets and hired stalls in order to promote their company and product, as well as developing a website and social media accounts for their business.

Thomas added: “Setting up the business has been a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. Despite facing numerous setbacks and difficulties on our journey, we stuck together as a team and learnt from each and every one of them.

“The hardest part has been structuring the team and putting our own friendships aside to focus on the needs of the business. But it’s also been a really rewarding experience too, seeing how far we have come as both a team and as individuals. We are all so excited to see what the future holds for Recycled Time.”

A community group have been praised as High Street Heroes for their work litter picking around their local shops, cafes and restaurants to help keep their village tidy. The East Leake Tidy Team use social media to help co-ordinate their services and ensure volunteers have access to all the equipment they need to keep the village welcoming for visitors and residents alike.

Volunteers meet regularly to scour the village for unwanted crisp packets, drinks bottles, or waste and are always keen to add more members to their group. Rushcliffe Borough Council has praised the group as part of their High Street Heroes campaign that aims to celebrate the efforts local business groups and individuals go to in encouraging businesses to thrive.

The authority’s executive manager for neighbourhoods, Dave Banks, said: “The East Leake Tidy Team represent yet another fantastic

community group working together to keep their high street clean, tidy and inviting.”

East Leake Tidy Team organiser, Mel Roper, said: “We love our village and it’s always great to find like-minded people who want to care for our high streets and help support the local, independent businesses who call East Leake home.

“Our group offers residents the opportunity to care for their community safely and in their own time. We’ve even had some civic-minded young people spend their school holidays tidying up the village.”

Local fashion students at Nottingham College have been working on a design challenge set by a specialist wedding boutique. Mary Jeremiah from The Wedding Room donated three wedding dresses to the Level 3 Fashion & Textiles students and then set them the challenge to transform them into something new and exciting. The project takes inspiration from TV shows such as The Great British Sewing Bee.

The students have undertaken a full transformation challenge. They have drawn upon skills from their course, including deconstruction and re-construction, pattern cutting, embellishment and fabric dying. The wedding dresses have been up-cycled to meet current on-trend wedding styles or become something completely new.

Sixteen-year-old Ernest Mason from East Leake said: “Giving us the opportunity to work under a

tight time frame, and to be less guided in our learning, meant we needed to be more intuitive and learn problem-solving and varied skills. I thought it was really good opportunity to speak to Mary about her career and find out about a successful local business.”

Mary, who worked in the fashion and textiles industry for 20 years before setting up The Wedding Room in 2012, said: “The students have embraced this project with enthusiasm and creativity.

“It was good to see their initial design ideas carried through to transforming the dresses into exciting new pieces.”

Stereotypes: no boys allowed? Stereotyping has been a thorn in the side of dancing for many years. Rewinding only a few years ago, it would have been highly questionable and suspicion would be shone upon boys who wanted to dance. Traditionally, males were supposed to be working hard and playing sports like rugby and football, thus causing a lot of prejudice. Take yourself back 15 years or so and imagine this: a boy of 12 stands proudly in the front room and tells his father he wants to start dancing. The response? Not good.

The boy would immediately regret making the request and hastily bury his head in the sand until forgotten. Luckily, even though our society still has negative opinions, they are not in such masses; allowing more and more boys to do the

activity that they love without fear of spiteful remarks, attitudes and opinions. Personally, I have been on the sharp end of mean remarks. However, the ripples have washed over me thanks to the resilience I have gained through being part of the local dancing dynasty that is Sharon Wood School of Dance and Drama in East Leake.

Strength: needed or overrated? What is often underestimated, is the strength required to be a male dancer. If your core is weak, then your dance is probably weak too. With lifts being around every corner, a core of steel is needed to catch anything or anyone that is thrown at you.

Glitz & Glamour: Maybe, maybe not: Dance isn’t all about money and fame. It’s more than that. Learn to love it and it becomes part of you and gets under your skin. The drive, perseverance and tenaciousness I gain through dance, positively impacts my studies at East Leake Academy (ELA). Everything I do, I strive to be the best because this is at the heart of who I am: dance planted the seed for my future endeavours. So, be prepared to get the bumps, blisters, backache and bandages in exchange for the most wonderful time of your life. You can’t hate what you don’t know: consider that.

Dancing: Not all about tutus and being light as a feather

Edwardian Nottinghamshire in Colour is a fascinating look into the early 20th century through the eyes of photographer Albert Hindley and his amazing picture postcards in the Clumber series.

Rushcliffe author Brian Lund, photographer Rob Inglis and Brian’s wife Mary went to a vast number of locations within a 10-mile radius of the city centre of Nottingham in the past few months.

They trio have teamed up to recreate the Edwardian postcard photo location with some fascinating results.

Brian Lund told the East Leake Local News: “We’ve spent the past two months going to 125 places within a 10-mile radius of Nottingham City Centre.

“We have spent a lot of time recreating the Edwardian postcard photo location.

“It has been fun and I hope readers will enjoy the result. Contemporary photos were taken by me or Rob.

“Most then and now books use black and white or sepia illustrations for the older views, but this book brings 1900s Nottinghamshire vividly to life

“The Red Lion pub at Costock - once on the original main road - is

now a private dwelling. Once it resounded to the sound of music hall performances and Harry Lauder and Dan Leno appeared here.

“Find out, too, where there was once at windmill near East Leake.”

Edwardian Nottinghamshire in Colour is a 128pp softback A4-size priced at £11.95.

It is now available at local bookshops and various newsagents across Nottinghamshire.

Purchase it direct from the publishers, Reflections of a Bygone Age. Please telephone them on 0115 937 4079.

You can also visit their website for more information by logging onto postcardcollecting.co.uk.

Getting into the holiday spirit with East Leake TradersThe Rushcliffe Golf Club, voted East Midlands Golf Club of the Year for 2019, is going from strength to strength with a fantastically well-presented and unique course, accompanied by a friendly clubhouse and welcoming staff.

All this culminates in an unforgettable golfing experience for members and visitors alike. Their recent success has come on the back of hard work and concerted efforts to modernise the club and bring it very much into the 21st

century. One example of this is the introduction and development of strategic commercial partnerships with a variety of large scale organisations and local SMEs.

The Rushcliffe Golf Club is in its second year as proud partners with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.

This association adds value to the golf club’s membership with cricket ticket and official merchandise give-aways, exclusively available

to members, alongside the introduction of a special Winter Open into the club’s golfing calendar where entrants get the opportunity to play alongside cricket stars past and present.

New for 2019 is the golf club’s association with Rhodes Wealth Management which will see the inaugural running of the Rhodes Wealth Management Series.

A selection of the club’s major competitions will be exclusively sponsored by the wealth management partner, culminating with the British Village Championships on Sunday 22nd September.

The Rushcliffe Golf Club also partners with local businesses to help promote what they have to offer, whilst providing exclusive discounts to the club’s members. Partnerships with the likes of Leanne Hennessey Hypnotherapy, based in East Leake, and Collo Cars, an executive taxi company based in Gotham, are just a couple

of the examples of the successful local partnerships in place at the golf club.

When asked about the strategic partnerships, club manager Marc Valentine told the East Leake Local News: “Everyone at The Rushcliffe Golf Club is proud to be associated with a variety of successful and professional commercial organisations.

“Through these relationships we are able to offer added value to our membership, as well as broaden our appeal to help attract new visitors to what we believe to be the best club in the East Midlands.

“Given the competitive nature of the golf industry and the ability to attract prestigious commercial partners, it highlights the fantastic status of our golf club.

“In addition, it is testament to the values we believe in and the commitment shown by all the staff and by the support of our members.”

He was to be the next George Best at Old Trafford but happily he remained the one-and-only Ian Storey-Moore throughout a glittering career cruelly curtailed by injury but seldom short of glorious goals – as well as a lost weekend that became part of the game's folklore. We talk to the player nicknamed Mugsy, who was anything but...

There were echoes of an Ealing comedy in the backdrop but the drama that unfolded was pure farce delivered directly from Whitehall. And the unwitting and innocent stooge in the middle, luckily with trousers firmly in the upright position, was Ian Storey-Moore, soon to be Britain's most expensive footballer. Or so, foolishly, he presumed. For weeks leading up to transfer deadline day in 1972 the stylishly swaggering Nottingham Forest winger had been the subject of repeated transfer speculation. If the Fleet Street presses were hot with his name, his own ears were burning as the country's leading

clubs did their courting in familiar fashion with a time-honoured ring, otherwise an illegal tapping-up of targets by telephone calls to the home. The culmination arrived on Friday, March 3 in Edwalton, that affluent suburb three miles south of Forest's City Ground.

Even five decades ago its eponymous hotel was a quaint anachronism, a turn-of-the-century construction clinging to 1950s tradition, fixtures and fittings and a two-star rating, courtesy of the AA. Into this homage to yesterday, its gloomily-lit foyer of dark-oak panelling replete with interior phone booth and Bakelite receiver, stepped Storey-Moore, expecting a bright, new tomorrow. The fun and games were only just beginning.

“On the Friday morning Matt Gillies told me to go to the Edwalton Hotel because Manchester United wanted to talk with me,” recalls Storey-Moore with a humility that belies his status in the game then and now as much as his features show few traces of his 74 years.”

Act One (Scene I) Enter, stage right, Frank O'Farrell, the United manager, into the Edwalton Hotel's discreet morning room and bar area. Outside lurking in the shadows and gloom of the foyer await Gillies, his assistant Bill Anderson and club secretary Ken Smales, an accomplished spin-bowler for Notts CCC in his prime.

Find out what happened in the dramatic meeting in Edwalton in the next edition of Local News Bygones, also featuring memories of the Dungeon Club and some very special Trent Bridge Test match memories.

The rise of technology can mean that you’re ‘always on’ when you run a small organisation or business. Technology brings benefits as well as challenges and for every challenge, you can turn it in to a benefit. Here are examples and possible positive outcomes...

1) Social media takes time to work. It affords you the opportunity to really consider the story behind your business and engage directly with customers.

2) Emails are always pinging up. Could you disable push notifications on your app or use a different mail app for work emails and personal ones?

3) People call just when you’re not going to be near that voicemail for a few days? You could use a phone system that emails you the recording to listen to at a time that suits you, such as cloudtele.co.uk.

4) People want to get in touch with you on their own terms, at their

own time, offering information on channels they might use will help them feel valued. Having an FAQ on your website - which you can point people to through auto responders on Facebook Messenger or your email - might resolve some basic queries. Can regular questions by phone be put on a simple menu? You might be closed but can a customer press 1 to hear your opening times?

5) Your own team needs access to your personal knowledge to keep functioning. You could move a knowledgebase like Google Docs or Evernote.

6) Your website - it needs to be kept up to date with content and as a platform, especially if you use Wordpress. It can showcase and sell your product, service or organisational benefits.

All of these can be implemented at a low cost. You just need to find what works for you.

Tackling technology challenges meaning you’re ‘always on’

I qualified as a Hatha Yoga teacher in January 2019 after a year’s teacher training in 2018 with a Yoga Alliance Professionals accredited course.

Yes, I missed the Royal Wedding, the best matches of the World Cup and all those lovely weekends of sun last year, but it was to improve my own knowledge of yoga.

I have been practicing yoga for five years now, but I had no intention of teaching.

Of course, my friends kept asking when I was starting classes. I thought about saying “I can’t teach”, but I don’t think that was an option.

Once I started, however, I found teaching very rewarding and that others benefited. The moral of this story is summed up by the quote

from Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right”.

If you think you may want to try yoga, why not give it a go and see for yourself?

Yoga is very accessible to people who just want to do a bit of exercise, or for those who are running or gym training.

Once you are on your mat it’s your practice and your body. It’s defiantly not about if you can touch your toes or not.

Come and have a no-obligation free trial session and see if yoga is for you at..

- Costock Village Hall 7:30pm to 8:30pm on a Wednesday evening.

- The Methodist Church Hall 1pm to 2pm on a Friday lunchtime.

Living in today’s society, which moves faster and is busier than ever before, it may be that you neglect your own needs to put work or the needs of others first.

However, this is when self-care is even more important.

By taking time to look after yourself, you can find a new lease of life.

Here are my tips for living a happier and healthier life...

Pause Take time to stop for just a minute or two and think about what you are doing at that moment and be present.

It stops us running around and allows us to enjoy the moment. This is really important.

Fuel your body right In addition to a healthy diet, you may wish to consider something to support the absorption of the goodness from food, like Forever Living’s Aloe Vera Gel.

Just a small glass a day is a great digestive aid.

Supplementing your body with good quality vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids is a great idea to make sure all those essentials are taken on board.

Hydration Keeping well hydrated is essential for keeping you physically and mentally in good shape.

Get moving Just a brief 10-minute walk a day can make a big difference both physically and mentally.

This has a positive compound effect over time.

To-do list Having a short to-do list and prioritising the hardest tasks first will give you focus and a sense of achievement each day.

Sleep Make sure you get good quality sleep by allowing yourself enough time to unwind before bed.

Make sure you get the right amount of hours asleep that suits you.

If you’d like to find out more about how drinking Aloe Vera and taking supplements may benefit you, please get in touch for a chat.

Some top tips for feeling on tip-top form This detached 1930s property

in Nottingham was the current owner’s family home. She and her siblings had been born in the house, so with the sad passing of her parents the family couldn’t bear to part with it. So, they embarked on a nine-month programme of refurbishments and renovations. The kitchen was a significant part of the renovations. An L-shaped extension was added, a new larder and utility room were built and the old bay windows were removed to put in a wall of glass to maximise the beautiful views of the garden.

The homeowners contacted Fine Finish Furniture as the kitchen needed to be designed and manufactured in plenty of time to make sure it was ready for installation as the building works finished. The kitchen/dining room that was created was a large room, so it needed to be zoned to create separate areas. There was to be the kitchen/food preparation/cooking area, an informal dining area in the form of an island, a

cosy, more comfortable seating area and a large dining table to seat six to eight. The kitchen is exclusive to Fine Finish Furniture and is manufactured at their factory in Bunny. The units are handmade with oak frames.

The kitchen is the traditional contemporary, Newton in Frame, shaker style range of units that include butt hinges. The units are a mixture of Farrow and Ball Lime White and Farrow and Ball Incharya

Blue colours. The worktops and splash backs are 30mm colonial white granite that has beautiful colours running through it. The purple in the granite compliments the kitchen superbly.

The island worktops are a combination of granite and 40mm full stave oak. The oak area of the island is designed as the seating area and the oak offers a more table like feel. The oak and the granite butt beautifully as one

material flows into the other, the detailing is second to none. The island has a built in wine cooler. A waste and recycling bin system is also integrated into the island; due to the space this takes a fake unit front for consistency of design was built into the one side of the island.

The splash back behind the hob is Incharya Blue glass the same colour as the units. The kitchen has a mixture of cup handles and doorknobs all of which are Ambrose, polished nickel. The kitchen has two under mounted stainless steel sinks, the one on the main run of units is a double bowl sink with Perrin and Rowe polished nickel taps.

The island has a single bowl under mounted stainless steel sink with a Perrin and Rowe hot water tap. The dishwasher is fitted near the main sink. The floor-to-ceiling units give lots of storage space. There is a bespoke-built wine rack down the side of the fridge. For more information visit the website finefinishfurniture.co.uk.

Modern relationships can be com-plicated. Divorce and re-marriage are commonplace. As your person-al circumstances change, so too should your will. It’s very important your will reflects your wishes and beneficiaries receive what you want them to.

Does marriage affect my will? Getting married or entering into a civil partnership in England or Wales makes any will you have had in place previously, null and void. Unless your will makes specific reference to your intended marriage or civil partnership and makes provision for that event.

Once you are married or in a civil partnership and you do not make a will, the laws of intestacy will come into play. This means that the courts will decide who inherits your estate on your death and not you.

Does divorce affect my will? Unlike getting married, divorce doesn’t automatically void your existing will. While your current

will remains valid, for inheritance purposes, your ex-spouse will be legally treated as if they had died when the marriage or civil partner-ship ended. It’s a common misno-mer that an old will from before the marriage will become valid again. This is not the case. The will should be dis-regarded.

In this context, not having an up-to-date will can cause issues. If the will does not state clearly what should happen in the case of a spouse’s death, you could again find your estate in intestacy. If your will doesn’t reflect the fact you have divorced, the administration of your estate could quite easily end up going against your wishes.

Do I need to make a new will after I get divorced? You may not need a new will per se, amending your existing will to take your divorce into account may be enough. It will depend how complicated your affairs are. You must update - or create - a will that truly reflects your current circum-stances. Failure to do so is likely

to put all these things in jeopardy. Making a new will can also protect you against any potential claims being brought against your estate under the Inheritance Act. There are numerous cases where ex-spous-es and children have successfully made claims for financial provision. A robust and up-to-date will signif-icantly reduces the chances of this happening.

Even in the case of an amica-ble divorce, where you and your ex-partner agree on how the estate should be spilt, there is no guaran-tee that this will happen unless it is expressly written in your will. Any-thing left to your ex-spouse in your original will is revoked. And this doesn’t mean that anything they were due to receive is automatically given to other beneficiaries.

David & Joan Take David and Joan. They have lived in their house for over 30 years. The property is solely in Da-vid’s name. David did not make a new will after he divorced and mar-ried Joan.nDavid’s estate, which

is largely made up of the house he has shared with Joan, is worth in excess of £250,000. David dies and Joan inherits the first £250,000, with the remainder divided equally between David’s three children from his first marriage. Naturally, Joan expects to be able to live in the house she has called home all her married life. Unsurprisingly, argu-ments ensue. Who should own the house, who has the right to dictate what happens to it and does Joan have the right to live there until she dies?

David could have avoided this upset by making a new will or revising his old one. Furthermore, starting a family conversation about estate planning, including obliga-tions to spouses, former spouses and children would have helped enormously. It may not be an easy subject to discuss but worthwhile in the long run.

Divorce, remarriage and inheritance Summer at last and the weather promises some of the warm-est days of the year. Lawns and patios need to look at their best as enjoying al fresco lunches and suppers become a regular thing. The biggest job of the month is to see that all your plants are watered regularly and the soil retains as much moisture as possible.

Beds and Borders Creating a sensible watering regime now will help to prevent plant damage if the weather should turn hot and the rains refuse to fall. The secret of success is to get the water deep underground where plant roots can easily take up the moisture. It’s no good wetting the soil surface on a daily basis. That just encourages plants to create surface roots that are more suscep-tible to hot sun and drying winds. It also encourages annual weeds to pop up to compete for available moisture. You need to get water down to below 15cm (six inches) from the surface. You can do this most easily if you sink a plant pot

up to its rim beside shrubs and be-tween bedding plants so that water from your watering can is placed in-stantly at root level and you have a reservoir that fills and drains easily and quickly.

Feeding of plants regularly will give your plants the strength to send down stronger, deeper roots to this reservoir of moisture. A weekly feed of half strength of a Water-Solu-ble Plant Food during drought is much better than plain water. Your plants will continue to produce new stems and more flower buds instead of closing down the growth factory while it concentrates on survival. Weeds on gravel drives, paths or gravel edges need to be treated so they are killed and the ground made weed-free for several months. Select a weedkiller that not only kills the weeds and their roots but also prevents the growth of new weed seedlings.

Patio Tubs & Baskets Watering and feeding container plants growing on the patio is a regular job. Hanging baskets may

need watering daily, although large pots and containers usually hold enough compost so that they only need attention every few days. Dead-heading flowers will always encourage maximum blooming as this prevents the setting of seed and a natural tendency of plants to stop all further growth once they have achieved their life’s am-bition of producing seed for the next generation.

Lawncare Lawns may be showing signs of stress as rainfall is short of the seasonal average. Without water an unfed lawn will struggle as roots are shallow and will suffer in drought conditions. If you decide not to water, raise your cutting height to protect the grass plants. If you have applied supplementary water, lawn grasses should be growing fast and healthily. Mow the grass at least once a week to keep this core part of the garden looking smooth and lush. At this time of year regular watering and regular mowing will gradually exhaust nutrient reserves

so that grass can soon look tired and pale just when summer sun encourages us all outside to enjoy barbecues and lawn games. To re-turn the lawn to a thick, lush sward that is bursting with colour and energy it needs to be fed.

Not only will summer feeding help to give a wonderful, deep-green lushness that is a pleasure to picnic on, but it will also stimulate grass roots to grow longer and deeper on the hunt for deep-down moisture. If your lawn contains broadleaved weeds such as buttercups, daisies, plantains and dandelions you may prefer to use a 3-in-1 lawn treat-ment instead. These contain three active ingredients to get control moss and broadleaved weeds and special greening up power that you will see revitalise your lawn in just 24 hours.

By Tony Grice

Since the founding of Prograss back in 2012, seeding and over-seeding has always really been a fairly simple affair. This is where seed is applied to an area and then bingo, a few weeks later it has germinated and all is looking fine.

However, weather conditions over the past 12 months have changed things considerably.

The main problem is that it has been extremely difficult to get seed to germinate. This is not just a problem for Prograss but all over the country.

Anybody in horticulture, sports facilities and lawn companies have faced the same problems. The process of seed germination is a strange phenomenon.

This is where after contact with soil, a shoot will leave the seed and go into the ground and then horseshoe back up. During this time the seed lies dormant on the soil surface.

It looks like nothing is happening, then all of a sudden the young grass shoots appear. However, last year’s fierce summer, dryish winter and cold, showerless April has made this fairly simple process

painfully slow. The birds have taken full advantage. They have devoured much of the seed before it has had chance to germinate.

Instead of standing still, Prograss have decided to face this problem head on. Having done much research and consultation, they have decided to invest in specialist commercial seed disc drilling machines. These are petrol driven and cut the seed into the soil which hugely increases the chances of seed germination.

With this method, loss of seed to birds is considerably less as well. Pictured here (right) is one of the over-seeding machines they have purchased.

Prograss will be using these to do most of their over-seeding from now on. They are Nottingham’s main independent lawncare company, specialising in all types of lawncare.

This includes fertilising, weed and moss control, aeration, scarification and over-seeding.

They would love the opportunity to tailor a program to suit your lawn. By using Prograss, your lawn will be overlooked by a qualified

agronomist who will be in charge of making sure your lawn is given the correct treatments.

They will ensure your grass will be greener, stronger, thicker and also weed-free.

A Prograss lawn programme can be surprisingly inexpensive, often not costing much more than buying the product from DIY or garden centres.

In addition, they will be applied correctly with professional equipment by a qualified operator.

Prograss also use products that are only available to the trade and are as safe and organic as what is available. If you would like them to visit and do a free, no-obligation lawn health check and quote please call them on 01949 837367 .

You can also visit the website by logging onto pro-grass.com.

Seed germination and over-seeding solutions by PrograssBy the time this is read, the year’s big showcase for landscape design will be over.

The Chelsea Flower Show just gets bigger and attracts more interest as our gardens and how we want to use them become more important to us.

Is this the time you wish to re-develop your garden comes true? The trend remains for homeowners to stay and improve their lot, which is great as this is the purple patch for garden design for a number of reasons.

Technology has provided us with materials that allow outside living to be reality, from fabrics that can stay outside all year to give you inside-looking furniture outside.

If you fancy an outside cinema, bar or kitchen, it’s all available. The skill is to incorporate into your living space so its practical, yet not looked plonked there.

Homeowners generally want to move things forward once they

have made that decision to have home improvements.

The impulse can sometimes be to employ those that are more readily available. While understandable, researching and waiting for the contractor that best fits your wishes is still the best way of safeguarding the investment you are about to make.

If you cannot find suitable recommendations, good businesses will be members of trade bodies or linked to the main manufacturers, in our case the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) and Marshalls Paving.

These relationships benefit you, the customer as you can have leading

industry guarantees from the manufacturer; the manufacturer as they have their products properly installed and the contractor.

We have launched a 3D virtual walk through garden design service which allows you to walk through your finished garden as if you were nearly there.

This helps the customer to fully understand how their garden will work in practice before a shovel goes in the ground. This service is ground breaking and is the future of the professional garden design process.

We design and build competitively priced gardens to a very high standard and have done so for 25 years.

A portfolio of our work is available on our website which can be found at duncanrossgardens.co.uk.

East Leake Bantams Under-9s are celebrating after securing victory in the YEL Cup final by beating Selston, a youth team from the division above them. Finlay Hunt converted a perfect cross by Arthur Benskin to put the Bantams ahead at half-time, before Selston levelled following a goalmouth scramble.

East Leake scored their winner with three minutes to go, as Harry Clark

collected the ball on the halfway line and ran half the length go the pitch to fire in the top corner.

Managers, Tony Clark and Adam Hames, told the East Leake Local News: “It was great to see that no-one panicked in the second half and everyone stuck at what they had to do. All of the Bantams played an impressive game and everyone is so proud of them.”

This Ghost Walk brings in the stories of real encounters with the unexplained happenings of Wol-laton Hall. The tour is led by Kath George, who has met some of the former residents, as have Wolla-ton’s colleagues both still in the service and those long gone.
