Feel Better, Look Better, Live Better with Tampa RejuvenationBy Marcy Sanford

Tampa Rejuvenation Founder andCEO Brett Markowitz wants to helppeople lead healthier, happier lives. Dur-ing his 15 years in the health and fitnessindustry, he has seen many people whoeat right and exercise but still can’t loseweight; and has even seen some thatcontinue to gain weight despite effortsto lead a healthier lifestyle. He says,“Our patients come to us for many dif-ferent reasons. Some have always beenover weight; some have started to gainweight as they get older and can’t lose itdespite exercise and dieting; some aresuffering from depression and fatigue;some people are having sleep issues. And, for the most part, they all knowsomething is wrong but they just can’tpinpoint what it is. At Tampa Rejuvena-tion we work with each person to createan individualized plan for their body, hormones, and lifestyle to help them livea healthier, happier life.”

Tampa Rejuvenation opened theirfourth location in June in the Coving-ton Professional Park at 13648 Hillsbor-ough Avenue. “We opened this office inresponse to the need of our patients,”says Brett. “We had many people travel-ing from other areas to come to our of-fices and we wanted to make it easier forthem.”

Tampa Rejuvenation’s doctors in-clude Johanna deVryer, MD – BoardCertified Internal Medicine; AgnesGreen, MD – Board Certified Anesthe-siologist; Jeanna Hepler ARNP – Inter-nal Medicine. Brett says, “Each of thedoctors are specialists within theirunique studies, and they all share a pas-sion for the field of anti-aging and howit is helping to change patient’s lives. They are all A4M credentialed – this iswhere they go for additional educationon how to slow up the aging processand prevent age-related diseases. Theyall work hand in hand to provide the

best patient care possible.” Since 2008, Brett and the board

certified doctors and professional per-sonal trainers and nutritionists at TampaRejuvenation have been helped hun-dreds of patients regain their energy andtake control of their lives. “Our doctorslook at the whole person and all of theirsymptoms and lab results to discoverwhat is happening with their body,” saysBrett.

Patients like 42-year-old Stacey haveseen amazing results. She says, “TampaRejuvenation offers a total healthylifestyle makeover. I have had exceptionalresults over the last few months follow-ing their program – a loss of 40 lbs ofbody fat while gaining several pounds oflean muscle mass. I have lost approxi-mately 22 inches from my bust, waist, hips, and thighs, not to mention the im-provement of my overall well-being.When I wake up in the morning none ofmy joints are screaming anymore and mychronic neck, back, and shoulder pain isgone. I no longer feel exhausted andrun-down throughout the day. Myblood pressure, cholesterol and restingheart rate have dropped significantly.Tampa Rejuvenation provides support tocover every aspect of a healthy lifestyleand gives you the right tools to achievethese results all in one place. They haveknowledgeable doctors, personal train-ers, and nutritionists on staff to helpevery step of the way.”

One of the many reasons TampaRejuvenation’s programs are so success-ful is that they recognize that no twobodies or body chemistries are exactlyalike. They use an integrative approachto determine the most suitable blend ofmedical weight loss, bio identical hor-mone therapy, clinical nutrition, and ex-ercise for each individual. Theprofessionals at Tampa Rejuvenationtake plenty of time meeting with eachpatient to assess their needs, challenges, and goals. Then, they perform diagnos-

tic testing to analyze your current healthand well-being. After receiving and re-viewing your lab results, your doctor willtalk to you about your health history, thesymptoms you are experiencing, andyour goals. Then your doctor will workwith a team of fitness and nutrition pro-fessionals to create a customized plan tohelp you reach those goals.

Brett says, “Our medical team iscomprised of on-staff physicians, clinicalnutritionists, medical assistants, and per-sonal trainers. Each patient has a team ofprofessionals to help ensure their suc-cess. We treat people for what is reallywrong with them instead of using aband-aid approach to treat symptoms asthey pop up.”

Brett says patients of all ages cometo Tampa Rejuvenation for help andthat there are many factors besides agingthat could be throwing your naturalhormone or thyroid levels off balance, including stress, genetics, lifestyle, andenvironmental toxins, which all can de-crease the proper healthy level for yourhormones.

Once Tampa Rejuvenation getsyour hormone levels back to normal, they continue to offer support and helpto their patients through an on-goingmaintenance program. The nutritionand exercise specialists will develop aplan just for you. “We have developedjust for Tampa Rejuvenation patients anIphone or Android application specifi-cally for our weight loss programs; iteven prints out a shopping list for you totake to the grocery store,” says Brett. You also receive a workout video andrecipes daily. The workout is tailored to

how many calories you are taking in andhow many you need to burn. The resist-ance training based work-outs are usu-ally 20 – 30 minutes long and can bedone at home.”

When your hormones are notright, it can affect so many areas of yourlife and can cause you to experiencesleep issues, weight gain, and a loss ofsex drive. Unbalanced hormone levelscan also cause you to be overly emo-tional, and tired all day long, includingwaking up tired.

Dr. Agnes Green (L) has a passionfor the field of anti-aging and how it

is helping to change patient’s lives.

If you need any type of door, window or components, visit CustomWindows and Doors of Pasco(CW&D). Family owned and oper-ated by the Leggiere family for thenearly 22 years that it has occupied thecorner of US 19 and Grand Boulevardin Port Richey, CW&D has earned astellar reputation for fair pricing, excel-lent service and honesty.

Custom Windows and Doors ofPasco was founded by Bob and CaroleLeggiere. Bob passed away September16, 2012. I am fortunate to have metwith Bob a few times over the pastyears. Sitting at his desk, Bob wouldlean in a bit and in his straightforward,no-nonsense manner, he told me ex-actly what set CW&D apart. Workingalongside his sons Gary and Bob Jr.,Bob left a legacy that the Leggierefamily continues – exemplary serviceprovided in a no-pressure sales envi-ronment with knowledgeable staff andskilled installation.

Recently, Carole, who assumed aleadership role as President of thecompany, invited me to come and

meet a few of the great people that arepart of the CW&D family.

Gary Leggiere is the Vice Presi-dent of Sales and Marketing, and likehis father, he does everything possibleto make certain that every customer iscompletely satisfied. “I don’t give up,”says Gary. “If someone is having aproblem such as a hard-to-fit opening,I will exhaust all resources to accom-modate people.” I spoke with a cus-tomer who experienced this dedicationfirsthand. Diane of Port Richey andher husband John have used CW&Dquite a few times throughout the yearsand for a couple of different proper-ties. Diane says, “We found a very un-usual door style that we wanted and ofcourse it was outrageously expensive, but Gary and Lydia researched and re-searched and found one for much less.Since we moved to Florida in ’93, wehave been to Custom Window andDoors for windows, shutters anddoors – most recently on our condo. They are excellent! Of course, weknew Bob and miss him, but Garylives in the business. He knows itbackwards and forwards.”

Assisting Gary and handling the

job scheduling for installa-tions and repair services isLydia Blotta. “I’m the fa-cilitator,” teases Lydia, who literally keeps trackof everything the com-pany is doing in four dif-ferent counties. “Lydia isa tremendous help,” saysCarole. “She is energeticand the customers loveher!” Not only does Lydiatake great care of the cus-tomers, she is a gourmetcook and often brings theoffice crew to-die-for lunches.

Another friendly face is Todd Part-low, Sales Rep and Troubleshooter, who truly enjoys working with the cus-tomers to help them find the windowsand doors that they want, careful towork within their budget. Todd hasbeen part of the CW&D family since itopened almost 22 years ago. Withmany years of experience earned whileworking as an installer for the company,Todd is able to bring a workman’sknowledge to the sales floor. He alsobrings dedication. “A lot of times peo-

ple have a hard time visualizing whatthe different doors and windows styleswill look like so we can go to the siteand take a picture, then we have a cou-ple of computer programs where theyliterally try out different doors to findwhat they like.”

I also met Raphael Sasso, akaRalphie, the master craftsman workingbehind the scenes building doors at aseparate location, three doors south ofthe main building. Carole recallsmeeting Ralphie in ’03, “We wereworking on a very big job and were

SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: TWO MYTHS AND TWO TRUTHSBy Dr. Wayne Adams, Former Dean and Full Professor of a Graduate School of Business

Having helped students improve their SAT and ACT scores for five years, there are two myths every Florida parent should be aware of: Common core edu-cational standards will help (they won’t); and high schools are improving(highly questionable at best!).

The good news is that, with proven tutoring techniques, proprietary materi-als, and new teaching philosophies, my students normally improve 200 – 300points on their combined SAT scores, and 4 – 7 points on their ACT compositescores. When any parent looks at the “before and after” essays, they are amazed.

Dr. Wayne Adams has degrees and advancedstudies from Harvard, Yale, and Vanderbilt. He

is one of the leading tutors in the country.

Now that the new school year hasbegun, more and more parents and stu-dents are thinking about how to scoretheir best on the SAT and ACT Exams.Bright Futures’ minimum requirementshave dramatically jumped, admission tocolleges is very competitive, and the work-force realities emphasize that studentsneed to do really well in college to find agood job after graduation. Latest statisticsindicate about 3 million seniors graduatedfrom colleges last year, with only 1.1 mil-lion college-level entryjobs available.

Myth #1: Common Core Educa-tional Standards Will Help. Recently, agreat deal of fanfare has accompanied thenational roll-out of these standards whilethe whole program is embroiled intremendous controversy. Established bythe Federal Government for teaching in allschools in the United States, the two mainareas for minimum educational standardsare Math and English.

Neither of these two key areas willimprove our students’ scores against truly

independent world standards. The newmath standards barely cover basic geome-try and algebra. Using “historical” math, there are no longer absolute truths; so 3times 4 can now equal 11 so long as a stu-dent can effectively explain how theyreached that answer. Stanford Prof. JamesMilgram, the only mathematician on theCommon Core Validation Committee, refused to sign off on the math standards, calling the whole thing “in large measure apolitical document” during testimony hegave in May 2011.

In English, there is no new focus onvocabulary, grammar, and writing essays.

In fact, thewhole area ofEnglish is being

de-emphasized because the classics arebeing almost totally ignored.

Myth #2: Florida Public HighSchools Are Improving. According to themost recent figures from the Tampa BayTimes, nine of Pinellas County's 16 highschools were rated “A” ( 2011-12 aca-demic year). The state announcedtougher evaluation standards for each ofthe next two years, only to rescind thembefore publishing the results each year be-cause they were too severe on schools.

If nine out of 16 high schools inPinellas County are “A” schools, how caneight other high schools in Pinellas

County the same rat-ing as Palm

same rating as Palm Harbor High School?PHUS is currently rated #22 in US Newsand World’s ratings of Best High Schools inthe country, 80% of the senior class qualifyfor Bright Futures Scholarships, and FCATscores are consistently in the top 1% inFlorida. Another “A” rated school has lessthan 50% of its graduates even going to col-lege. Whatever happened to a “bell curve”?

Two inconvenient truths: First, theSAT and ACT exams are graded on a curvenationally. One example is a recent studentwho scored at the 60th percentile for allFlorida students on the ACT, which was ad-justed to 50th percentile on the nationalscoring. Second, on standardized interna-tional examinations not curved only to

American students, we continually to dovery poorly.

Again, the good news is that studentscan do a lot better on the SAT, ACT, andacademics as they prepare for their futures. If you would like to talk more about how, please contact me.

About Dr. Adams: His students havebeen admitted to Harvard, Yale, Cornell,Columbia, UF, FSU, USF, UCF, USC,UCLA, LSU, Ohio State, Boston College,Northeastern, Music Conservatories, andmany other outstanding universities - oftenwith academic, athletic, and music/perfor-mance scholarships. Both the doctors and staff mem-bers visit schools frequently to teach

kids about dog safety and how to ap-proach or deal with animals. Dr.Amsberry became involved in dogbite prevention 20 years ago and de-veloped the program called “Nip theBite,” because many children are bit-ten each year, suffer both physicaland emotional injuries, often devel-oping a life-long fear of dogs. Teach-ing children the proper way toapproach and behave around dogsprevents bites.
