Local Area Information

Population

The Manninham population count due to the 2006 census states that there were 115,847 residents.

In East Doncaster alone 26,698.

Manningham is made up of 34% of European decent, inlcluding Chinese, Italian and Greek.

Doncaster East is a suburb about 22km ENE of Melbourne, sprawling over and on the eastern bank

of the Mullum Mullum Creek Valley. The suburb was once home to many orchards and today boasts

a lot of recreational parks and gardens .

The suburbs that encompass Manningham are: Bulleen, Doncaster, Doncaster East, Donvale,

Nunawading (part), Park Orchards, Ringwood North (part), Templestowe, Templestowe Lower,

Warrandyte, Warrandyte South and Wonga Park.

History

East Doncaster was originally occupied by the Wurundjeri Indigenous Australians of the Iculin

Nation. After European settlement East Doncaster known as "East Donnie" was used for agriculture,

mainly orchards. In the 1860's a small establishment 'Waldau' was home to many German Settlers,

they planted pine trees in the area that still exist today.

German Lane was the original name for George Street and Bismarch Street was the original name for

Victoria Street. It as in the first world war that these names were replaced.

In the 20th

Century orchards and farmland was cleared for residential use.
