The images and memories of the massive earthquake of February 27, 2010, in

our country Chile, where there were human losses, and damage to property

and the environment, made us re-examine where we live, what risks we are

exposed to and to identify that our priority is "to prepare for existing risks,

before, during and after. "

This preparedness must be in our homes, in our neighborhoods, in our schools and at work, facing the different types of risks that we are exposed to in our country, not only where we live, but also where we go on vacation.

It is fundamental to realize that serious risk exists, and that both

we and our loved ones are exposed.

And that we should evaluate our vulnerabilities and prepare

ourselves differently for each threat.

And we cannot expect others to do a job that is ours, because

being prepared is everyone's task.

However, from a municipal perspective, our work

focuses on conducting risk management at the local

level:

1. Strengthening the communal Civil Protection System.

2. Managing information about risk disaster.

3. Learning more about the strategies used in the world for risk disaster reduction.

4. Transferring to the community experiences in the field of risk disaster reduction.

5. Establishing strategic alliances with both public and private institutions that are related to risk

management.

6. Improving existing infrastructure and projecting with an integrated vision.

7. Improving coordination with companies in basic services.

8. Permanently updating municipal emergency plans by type of risk. For example, the Shelter

Plan and Liaison Plan.

9. Training the school community, neighborhood meetings, mothers’ centers and building

administrations, among others.

All this, to advance the National Disaster Risk Reduction Policy,

presented by the National Emergency Office, related to:

1. Strengthening institutionalism

2. Strengthening of monitoring and early

warning systems

3. Promoting the culture of prevention and self-

care

4. Reducing the underlying risk factors

5. Strengthening emergency response capacity

The Mayor Felipe Alessandri V., signed in October 2017, the

commitment to collaborate, as members of the Civil Protection System,

in the formal process that Chile assumed by joining the Sendai

Framework, with the aim of contributing to:

1.- Strengthening Institutionalism

2. Strengthen preparedness, response and recovery capacities

3. Contribute to the construction of a culture of prevention and

self-assurance

4. Resulting in more resilient communities and institutions
