Developing your conductingThis ACCET Summer School offers you four stimulating days in which to develop and refine your conducting skills, to under-stand the body-mind process that links thought to conducting gesture, and to be expressive in conducting. It will give you much new understanding of the voices of choristers you con-duct, expand your range of rehearsal techniques, provide you with a new range of choir warm-ups, and you will gain refresh-ing new repertoire in a variety of forms – in the substantial package of music you receive, in music reading sessions, and in stimulating topical sessions of music for children, youth and adult choirs, Scandinavian music and music written by women composers.

In addition to Gary Graden and Dr Debra Shearer-Dirie the team will include Dr Robert Braham, Sonny Chua, Nicholas Cowall, Anne Credlin, Faye Dumont, Suzanne Johnston, Bruce Macrae, Judith McKnight, Jenny Mathers, Mark Puddy, Lyn Richardson, Jodie Spooner-Ryan and Tony Stratford.

Emphasis on conductingDevelopment of your conducting skill is the central goal of the 23rd ACCET Summer School. This will occur through group tuition, demonstration and master classes. In five in-depth conducting group workshops you will improve your skill and confidence in conducting. To assist you in nominating your current skill, consider the following:

Basic• has limited experience rehearsing and conducting a choir• needs basic conducting patterns• needs confidence in score preparation• needs confidence in cueing entries and executing cut-offs• wants beginning information on running rehearsals

Intermediate• has had substantial experience rehearsing and conducting a choir• has had previous conducting tuition • wants to increase technical skill with entries and cut-offs,

phrasing, legato, staccato, accent, pauses, dynamics and time changes

• wants to advance knowledge of musical interpretation

Advanced• has much experience rehearsing and conducting skilled choirs• is willing to audition on the first day to gain a place in the advanced group• has had considerable conducting tuition• is willing to tackle advanced music
