Graduation is right around the corner. I can’t believe I am

graduating. It came so soon. There are a lot of staff that

participate getting the graduates prepared for their big

night. I sat down and talked to the many staff that have

participated in graduation for years. Ms. Obermeyer and

Ms. Helms start preparing for gradation in January. They

start by collecting graduates' height and weight for their caps and gowns. Ms. Obermeyer

And Ms. Helms also plan the set-up for the gym/auditorium. The coaches set the gym up ac-

cording to the plan.

Another part of graduation preparation is preparing the graduation breakfast. It is a celebra-

tion for graduates, their teachers, and up to two important people in their life. Ms. Wilkins ,

Ms. Estes, Ms. Coleman, Ms. Brown, And Ms. Thompson all come together for the graduation

breakfast . They have a lot to do; make the guest list, buy the food, decorate, and cook it all. I

didn’t know that they have to be here by 5:30 a.m. just to get all the food ready and done.

They are here cooking while graduates are still asleep in their bed.

The next staff is Ms. Kimmel. She is the school counselor. Her job is to help the graduates find

a job, fill out applications for financial aid and college. She loves to help the graduates get

ready for graduation because its exciting for her too. She’s been a part of graduation for the

last four years.

Ms. Fitzgerald also participates in graduation; she puts together a video of the graduates. She

has them bring in pictures from when they were little up until what they look like now. Ms.

Fitzgerald then interviews them about their years at Northview. I have seen the past videos

of graduates and she does a very nice job doing her videos. I can only image how special ours

is going to be.

Meet some of

the staff and

what they do

in preparation

for graduation.

The Shoeman Water Project is a classroom service learning project where we col-

lect shoes that people have donated and count them. We turn the shoes over to

the Shoeman Water Project. They sell the shoes to earn money and this helps

build systems for getting countries clean water to drink. We are helping people

around the world. They use the money that they get from the shoes to buy drilling

rigs and build water purification systems to get fresh water. Over 700 million peo-

ple in the world do not have fresh water according to shoemanwater.org.

The former boss was George Hutchins. He has retired and another company has

taken it over. The shoes are sold to a wholesaler or trader and then the wholesal-

er or trader sells the shoes to third world countries. According to Mrs.Grimmet,

the program has been going on for almost ten years. Shoes can be donated any

day throughout the school year. There are two boxes where the donated shoes

will be stored. People can drop them off in the teacher’s lounge or the main

office.

CARING IS LOVE

By Kira W.

Caring is sharing. It is important to care because you want someone to care for you. I like to care about my

sister because I love her. To some caring is love. To me caring is trust. When you care about someone or

care for something you are being a good person. A good person should care for them self as much as any-

one else. I care for myself by setting goals and trying harder every day to achieve those goals. I think respect

is a big part in showing how you care. A person can care for other people by not saying anything if they have

nothing nice to say. They can also care for others by being respectful and considerate of other people’s

space and surroundings. You can care in many ways. You show respect, love, and gratitude when you care.

Beauty Tips

by Kira W.

First, for those who have skin problems I’m going to give a few skin

care tips. I personally love wearing makeup and contouring but some-

times that can be a lot of makeup. What I like to do to keep my pores

small and tight with makeup or without is use Noxzema acne soap and

face wash. I also use facial peel or mask for body and face. You can find

them at Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS. You can also find the facial

mask at any nearby beauty supply store.

Second, I moisturize twice a day for my dry skin. I moisturize with cocoa butter and Olay lotions. Most

people’s skin gets dry when the temperature drops. That’s why it’s important to drink a lot of water be-

cause your skin takes in the water you drink.

Third, I use the peel off mask that will peel away dead skin and dirt from under your pores, leaving your

skin smooth, glowing and clean.

Every girl loves her hair or likes getting it done. I love my hair but it is thin. Remember when I said you

should moisturize twice a day. Well, you should also moisturize your hair with leave in conditioner and hot

oil treatment. That will help your hair grow stronger and thicker from scalp to the ends of your hair. Any-

one with any grade of hair and any skin type can use my skin and hair tips. I don’t recommend hair growth

pills for longer hair. Hair growth pills will increase hair growth all over the body. I suggest doing this rou-

New School: Northview

By Kira W.

I am a student at Northview High School. We have a new school. The building is so much bigger

and brighter than the old one. The school is located at 1520

Derhake Rd. The new Northview building has a larger cafe-

teria and better restrooms. The new building gym is huge

and grey with a stage. The restrooms are roomy and the

front office is also bigger. We have shiny new floors and nice

murals on the wall to show our school spirit. Our new school

is so mammoth and the hallways are so long and spacious. I

have yet to see the whole building myself. The old North-

view school cafeteria was always crowded and filled with

students and teachers. Our old gym was very large but it did not have a stage. Our old school was

about half the size of our school now. The front office was small as well but now we have a sitting

area in our new one. Last but not least our, classrooms are humongous and we have so much

space and room. I really like the new building.
