Creating Apple ID• Parent has to create Apple ID for the child below
13 years of age.
• Apple ID should not contain payment information.
• Parent may choose to share Apple ID with child for downloading free apps.
• For more information, please go to http://support.apple.com/en-sg/HT204034
• Tap on App Store
• If you get prompted to download the Apple apps, tap on “Not Now” to skip.
• You may return to redeem the free apps at a later stage after the Apple ID is setup.
• Tap on “Top Charts” along the bottom
• To create an Apple ID without credit card information, you must download a free app.
• Follow the next slide’s instructions
• Search for the “Currency” app in the top right Search field
• Tap on currency in the search hits returned
• Tap on “Get” for Currency. • We chose this app for it’s
small app size (~3.5MB) to facilitate a faster install.
• You may choose to install any other free app.
• Tap on “Install” for Currency
• When prompted, tap on “Create New Apple ID”
• Tap on “Singapore” • Tap on “Next”
• Read the Terms and Conditions for iTunes Store carefully
• Scroll to down to the bottom
• Tap on “Agree” to continue
• Tap on “Agree” to verify
• Enter your email address to be used for your child
• Choose a suitable password.
• Must be at least 8 characters, and include a number, an uppercase letter and a lowercase letter
• You may share this password to your child
• Fill up the Security Info
• Fill up all fields • Tap on “Next”
• Tap on “None” to exclude any payment information
• Fill in the Billing Address (required even with no credit card info chosen)
• Tap on “Next”
• A verification email will be sent to your email address
• Check your email address and follow the link within to activate your Apple ID
• If you did not verify your email address, you cannot continue.
• After verification, you will be prompted to sign in to iTunes Store
• Enter your password and tap “OK”
• Currency app will download and install
• Your Apple ID without credit card information is now successfully created
Family Sharing• Allows up to six family members to share each other’s
purchases from iTunes Store without sharing accounts.
• Requires iOS 8 and above
• Family organiser needs to add credit card into Apple ID account
• Child needs to get approval from Family organiser before purchasing apps

Family Sharing Setup
• Go to Settings • Tap on iCloud • Verify correct iCloud
Account is signed in • Tap on “Set Up Family
Sharing”
• Tap on “Get Started”
• Tap on “Continue” • or use a different ID…
• Sign in with your Apple ID • Do not share this
password with your child
• Verify your payment info • Tap on “Continue”
• Share your location • or Not…
• Family Sharing setup successfully completed
• Now to create an Apple ID for your child
• Tap on the link “Create an Apple ID for a child”
• Read the information • Tap on “Next”
• Enter your child’s birthday • Use the scroll select
below
• Read the Parent Privacy Disclosure carefully
• Tap on “Agree”
• Enter your credit card security code for verification
• Tap on “Next”
• Enter your child’s name • Tap on “Next”
• Enter your preferred iCloud email address as your Apple ID
• Tap on “Next”
• Verify your iCloud email address
• Tap on “Create”
• Choose your child’s Apple ID password
• Must be at least 8 characters, and include a number, an uppercase letter and a lowercase letter
• You may share this password to your child
• Parents are to choose 3 security questions and the relevant answers
• In case your child forgets the password, these will be used by parents to verify and recover the password
• Ask to Buy is turned on by default for all children under the age of 13.
• Parents are encouraged to keep this turned on.
• Choose to Share Location of your child with you

• Read the iOS Terms and Conditions carefully
• Tap on “Agree”
• Read the iTunes Terms and Conditions carefully

Setting up Restrictions• Parents may choose to enforce restrictions on the
iPad for a higher level of control
• Tap on Settings
• Tap on “General” • Tap on “Restrictions”
• Tap on “Enable Restrictions”
• Set a Restrictions Passcode
• Parent should not share this passcode with their child.
• Disable “In-App Purchases”
• Tap on “Websites” to restrict web access via Safari web browser
• Tap on “Specific Websites Only”
• Tap on “Add a Website”
• Enter a Title name • Enter the restricted
website address
• To delete a website, swipe left
• Then tap on “Delete”
• To always enforce password for iTunes Store download, tap on “Require Password”
• Select “Immediately”
• Location Services may allow certain apps from tracking the location of the iPad (and the child)
• Parent may choose to turn off Location Services for Privacy reasons
• Tap on “Location Services”
• Choose to allow or disallow changes
• Choose to enable or disable Location Services
• To prevent apps from accessing Twitter access
• Tap on “Twitter”
• Tap on “Don’t Allow Changes”
• To prevent apps from accessing Facebook access

• To disable built-in account changes or changes, tap on “Accounts”
• This may be desirable to prevent social media logins like Facebook or Twitter…

Accessibility• Making use of iPad’s built-in features to personalise
and enhance the usage experience
• Example: enlarging font size, speech read back and guided access (lock to app) with time based control
Guided Access• Use Guided Access to lock the iPad to a single app
• Your child will not be able to exit the app without your permission
• Useful when you are unable to supervise your child when he/she is using the iPad independently
• Can also be used to limit usage of the iPad based on time (example: allow usage of single app for 30 mins only)
• Tap on Settings
• Tap on “General” • Tap on “Accessibility”
• Tap on “Guided Access”
• Tap on “General” • Tap on “Guided Access”
• Turn on Guided Access • Turn on Accessibility
Shortcut (allowing you to activate when you triple-click Home button)
• Tap on “Passcode Settings”
• Tap on “Set Guided Access Passcode”
• Set a Passcode for Guided Access
• You may choose the same passcode used for your Restrictions
• Do not share this passcode with your child
• Re-enter passcode to confirm
• Guided Access setup complete
• Press Home Button to exit
• Test Guided Access • Launch the Currency app
(or any other app)
• Triple-click Home Button to begin
• Tap on “Options” to setup Time Limits
• Time Limit is optional. • You may use Time Limit to
set a time restriction on how long your child may use the app
• Scroll the Hour and Minute dials to set the allowed usage length
• Tap on “Start” to begin the Guided Access session
• Guided Access Started • Your child will not be able
to exit the app by pressing the Home Button
• To end Guided Access, triple-click the Home Button
• Enter your Guided Access passcode
• Tap on “End” to terminate Guided Access
• Guided Access Ended
• This is optional • Tap on “Touch” to disable
the touch screen • Your child will not be able
to interact with the screen • Suitable for apps that
does not require touch interaction (i.e. watching a movie)
• This is optional • Tap on Options to enable
or disable physical buttons and functions
• Example: disable motion sensors (rotate/tilt) or keyboard input
• Example: disable volume or sleep/wake buttons
Speech and Text• Enable the Speech feature to read text aloud
• Useful when learning to enunciate new words
• Can also be used to read back long paragraphs of text
• You may also increase the system text font size for better readability
• Tap on Settings
• Tap on “General” • Tap on “Accessibility”
• Tap on “Speech”
• Turn on “Speak Selection” • Turn on “Speak Screen”
• This is optional • Turn on “Highlight
Content” - this highlights the word as it’s being read out
• Tap on “Voices”
• Tap on “English” • You may also select other
languages like “Chinese”
• Default is English (US) • You may select Enhanced
Quality or Alex (Natural Sounding voice)

• You may also select “Chinese” and choose the Enhanced Quality

• Drag the slider to increase text font size
• Test Speech • Click the Home Button • Tap on “Clock” app
• Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers
• Menu allows you to speed up or slow down the read back speed
• Pause or skip to next paragraph
• Tap “X” to exit
