Background Research

• A well-stocked library has a positive impact on student achievement, regardless of the socio-economic or educational levels of the community (School Library Impact Studies) www.lrs.org/impact.asp

• Findings show that technology and information skills are best taught within the curricular context rather than in isolation (School Libraries Work) www.scholastic.com/librarians

• Technology as a Second Language (TSL), introduced in 1995, emphasized information literacy and the use of technology within the school community. Originally overseen by tech staff, this will now be implemented by the LMS as a component of the integrated, collaborative approach to student learning centered in the LMC
