    MANAGEMENT TOOL

With the start of the summer months, ADMA-OPCOlaunched its yearly Heat Stress Awareness & PreventionCampaign last month.

Considered an integral part of the companys culture, thisyears campaign approach adopted a unique system ofmonitoring and assessing heat stress and its associated

work / rest regime as well as hydration protocol.

The system is called TWL (thermal work limit), a new

scientic heat stress management tool to quantify thework-rest regime via using a friendly communication

tool, ag system, that takes into considerationarea and location factors, environmental factors,

as well as workers factor. This method has been

researched and validated for the gulf region and

adopted by the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi &

    Environment Agency Abu Dhabi.

The system is linked to a ag raising process in which

heat stress is monitored periodically across the workshift via special devices and the results will yell out

the action to be followed. The ags will act as a visual

communication means to employees working at largeworksites. Each raised ag will have its associated

    actions to follow.

This initiative was launched rst in Musaffah by Senior

    Vice President (Drilling-Support) Ahmad S. Al-Suwaidi

and Manager Health, Safety & Environment and QualityAssurance Omar Al-Shamlan, followed by Das Island. The next phase will be cascading it to the platformsand super complexes where public address andannouncement system will be used together with theFlag System.

The adoption of such an initiative, being scientic in

nature, simple and straight forward, visible and easilyunderstood to all level of workforce as well as costeffective, will ensure better control in mitigating heatstress and raise moral, condence & sense of belonging

    amidst workforce.

    SCADA CONFERENCE REVIEWS INDUSTRY

    CYBER THREATS

End-user role is vital in protecting our critical infrastructuredespite having state-of-the-art cyber security defenses.

Regional companies cyber security teams andspecialized companies have recorded an increaseinsecurity activities during the past few months in theMiddle East and the Gulf Region. Such activities aretypically an indicator of the initial phase of sophisticated

cyber-attacks where the attackers attempt to discoverthe companys defenses in order to prepare and plan anattack for invading networks, data, and assets.

Todays cyber security attacks dont only targetinformation and system parts of enterprises, but alsotarget the critical infrastructures and assets. The goalof a number of evolving types of attacks goes beyond

the level of virus outbreaks, stealing data, and systemhacking to reach the level of invading the industrialcontrol systems and networks. Such might enablereaching the control systems and taking over the plantoperation systems, increase the pressure in pipelines, change in eld devices parameters, open or close

motorized valves, and many other actions that couldcause safety hazards to people, critical assets, and theenvironment.

Companies today are aware that cyber security meanssafety, and hence they recognize that t he cyber securitymust include deploying state-of-the-art defenses andmost importantly increase user awareness to ensureeffective safe practices.

It is very important to understand that attackers need tosucceed in penetrating a single system in a Company, and then, they can use it to attack the entire networkand systems resulting in compromising other companyresources or systems; Protecting a single PC is asimportant as protecting the whole network and systems.

In this article, we will shed light on a few scenarios thatshow how unknowingly human negligence can be usedto attack companies even if rigorous cyber securitysystems and controls are already in place. We will wrapup these examples and give tips to our users to helpthem avoid falling into the cyber-attack trap.

It is important to understand that receiving an email

from an email address that you already know doesnt

mean that the sender is the person that you know.

Email spamming systems collect legitimate email

addresses by many means and use them to send

    spam emails to others.

Users must be cautious when receiving emails withcontents that they are not expecting and report theseto the Company Help Desk for IT Security Engineers toinspect the email and identify its source.

Example 1: A user receives an email that contains a linkto the internet from a known or unknown sender:

One of the common ways to attack computers and gain

access to the system is by deceiving the user to clickon a link sent to the user through an email. When theuser clicks on the link, he is redirected to a malicious sitethat will download a Trojan to the users PC to start the

journey of attacking other computer resources withinthe Companys network.

To avoid being a victim of such an attack, users need

to be very cautious when they click on links within theemails that they receive, unless they are sure that theemail is from a trusted source.

Example 2: The user receives an email with a PortableDocument Format (pdf) le attachment:

Adobe Pdfle format was originally created to allow users

to view documents. Pdfles can contain other objects

within themselves such as pictures or even other les.

Hackers create Adobe pdf les that contain malicious

codes within the le itself that can be launched when

opening the le or establish a connection with a website

and download a malicious code to the users PC.

To avoid being a victim to such an attack, users must becareful when opening received pdfattachments in theiremails. Again, unless you are sure that the email is froma trusted source, be cautious when opening such les.

Example 3: The user uses the Company PC to open his/her personal email yahoo, google, hotmail, etc.

While many companies underestimate the threat ofallowing the use of personal emails using CompanyPCs, opening personal emails from within CompanyPCs is one of the major threats. The spam rate withpersonal emails is much higher than business emails.Business emails pass through multiple checks beforethey reach the user. When the user opens a personalemail, it doesnt pass through the same level of checksused by the companys business email system. Thismakes opening emails from personal email systemsmore risky than opening a business email. Users shouldlimit opening their personal emails to only when criticallyneeded and when its source is well known to the receiver.

The SCADA (Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition)Cyber Security Conference was organized recently

in Kuwait to review the latest developments, trends

and research solutions addressing security of the

computers and networks used in SCADA and other

    industrial control systems.

and spoke to the press about the signicant role

played by SCADA systems in the oil & gas sector and

    even at nuclear installations.

    ATTACHMENT TO

    FLUORBEARS FRUIT

    COMPANYS

As part of its strategy to enhance the competencedevelopment of its employees and get them geared forthe challenges and responsibilities of the future, ADMA-OPCO, through the Manpower Development Division, has attached 11 UAE engineers to leading companiesto Houston, United States of America, and India overthe past period.Nine of the assigned engineers were attached with

Fluor, USA, to work on the Nasr Full Field Development

Project. The attachment was premised to develop

UAEs expertise in various engineering disciplines and

expose the Competence Assessment ManagementSystem (CAMS) graduates to a higher technical level

by working as members with a leading engineering

and construction company like Fluor, considered one

of the few global companies that can provide large-

    scale engineering, procurement, construction, and

    maintenance (EPCM) services.

The disciplines of the Houston-attached engineers, whospent in USA from four to eight months, ranged frommechanical, electrical, control, process integrity to civilengineering. Some of them are still at CAMS and othersare already integrated. The full attachment should endin November 2012. They spend two months in US andthen come to Abu Dhabi for a two-week leave during

which they conduct presentations on the progress oftheir work and achievements.

ADMA Magazine spoke to Ahmed Nemr, Ahmed NazimNemer, Civil Engineer, Discipline Engineering Division, one of the engineers attached in USA. ADMA Engineerswork part of the Fluor team who are entrusted with theimplementation of the Nasr Full Field DevelopmentProject. At the end of the project, inshaalah, we willhave our names on the project itself because we areeffectively contributing with Fluor experts to the bestfulllment of the project.

AS Chief Executive Ofcer Ali Rashid Al Jarwan saidwhen he visited us in Houston: it is an opportunity foreverybody to be here and you guys are here to learnfrom the best people in this eld. He is completely right

because Fluor is really doing a great job and we are bothlearning from them and at the same time have our solidcontribution to the nal output of the project.

The experience we are gaining from our attachmentwith Fluor will reect positively on our performance

at the company when we are back and when we areentrusted with other projects. It goes without saying thatwhen you are attached with the best company in theworld in this eld, you must have an added value to offer

    to your company.

Every week we ll in a form like a report describing how

far we are satised and progressing. We send it from

US to Mr. Samir Omar, Manpower Development Advisor,

on how we are contributing to the projectThen Mr.Samir sends to us his feedback and remarks, providingus with all necessary advice as required.

I am very satised with this good experience. If you want

to learn, you need to be exposed. We are learning fromdifferent expertise in Fluor and I am for sending as manyemployees as we can do because this is eventually forthe best interest of t he company.

ADMA Magazine also spoke to Adel Abdul Monem Al-Kindi, Integrity Engineer at Integrity Division.

Work with Fluor for 6 month has provided me withexperience I would not have gained even in 16 years at

ADMA. My main goal when I joined this attachment was

to come up with real achievement and thank God Ivemanaged to attain this goal by designing an equipmentthat will be in action once Nasr Field starts working. Thiswould not have been possible without that attachmentsimply because at ADMA we dont design.

Surely the company will gain tremendous benets from

that attachment and ADMA will not nd better than those

engineers who have been attached with Fluor to be in

charge of operating Nasr Field in the future thanks tothe great experience they have gained during the periodthey spent with Fluor.

I am very lucky to have that attachment throughwhich we, both integrated engineers and CAMSundergraduates, are learning a lot, something whichas a matter of course will reect positively on our

performance when we are back to the company.

my friends and workmates. At 06:50 we start our daily

learning process at Das Training Center. We reach DTC

at 0700 Hrs sharp and immediately start our training

sessions. The instructor reviews the previous lessons

to refresh our memory. Then he embarks on using a

new chapter of our syllabus usually by Power Point

presentations and explains all details on the board to

make it easy for us to understand. The instructor usually

takes us for site visits to explain the practical aspects of

the lectures, whenever it is necessary. We have intervals

every 1.5 Hrs to refresh ourselves with Tea and Snacks. Our lunch break is from 1 to 2 pm; we go and take lunch

at the companys restaurant. After the lunch break, we

resume our classes. There are English Language classes

3 times per week conducted by the English Language

Instructor, to improve our English reading, writing and

speaking skils. The class nishes at 1800 Hrs. I usually

spendnearly 2 hrs at the gymnasium daily. This facility

provided by the company is very good and I utilize it to

improve my physical tness and stay healthy. I return

from gym around 8 p.m., and then I refresh myself with

a shower and take dinner with friends. I study the daily

lessons and go to bed around 11pm. I feel happy and

say Alhamdulillah to have started my professional life in

Reecting the spirit of religious ascendancy during

the holy month of Ramadan, ADMA-OPCO 2012

Ramadan Activities Programme, as is the case every

year, f eatures a series of charitable activities tailored

to give the employees a chance to get more devoted

to worshipping on the one hand and become more

sensitive to each others feelings on the other during

these sacred days. This years programmes and

activities include a Quran memorization competition,

religious lectures, a daily Iftar Saem programme,

Omrah trip for the needy, along with a variety of

other social and charitable nights and activities. All

employees are being encouraged to contribute to

these activities by way of funding or engaging in them.

RAMADAN MONTH OFFASTINGRamadan -a month of obligatory daily fasting in Islamis the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Dailyfasts begin at dawn and end with sunset. Specialnightly prayers called, Taraweeh prayers are held. Theentire Quran is recited in these prayers in mosques all

around the world. This month provides an opportunityfor Muslims to get closer to God. This is a month whena Muslim should try to:

    See not what displeases Allah

    Speak no evil

    Hearno evil

    Do no evil

Look to Allah with fear and hope

O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you asit was prescribed for those before you, that you maybecome God-fearing. (The Quran, 2:183)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking

his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven.Whoever prays during the nights in Ramadan with faithand seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sinsforgiven. And he who passes Lailat al-Qadr in prayer

with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have hispast sins forgiven ( Bukhari, Muslim).

Ramadan ends with a day long celebration known asEidul-Fitr. Eidul-Fitr begins with a special morningprayer in grand Mosques and open grounds of townsand cities of the world. the prayer is attended by men, women and children with their new or best clothes.

A special charity, known as Zakatul-Fitr is given outprior to the prayer. The rest of the day is spent in visitingrelatives and friends, giving gifts to children and eating.

    RAMADAN CHARITABLEProgramme to Kick off

    ADMA-OPCOs

It is reported in Hadith literature, that the

Messenger of Allah was carried from the

Sacred Mosque in Makkah to the Farthest

    Mosque (Al-Masjid al-Aqsa) in Jerusalem

on a creature called Al-Buraq in the

company of the archangel Gabriel (peace

be upon him). There he led a congregational

prayer of the prophets of God.

Then Gabriel took him to the heavens where he met the

prophets Adam, John, Jesus, Idris, Aaron and Moses(peace be on them all). In the seventh heaven, he metAbraham (peace be on him).

He was then brought to the Divine Presence. The detailsof this encounter are beautifully detailed in the beginningof surat An-Najm (52).

PRAYER: GOD-GIVEN GIFTDuring this time, Allah ordered for his nation fty daily

Prayers. But on the Prophets return, he was told byProphet Moses (peace be on him) that his followerscould not perform fty Prayers. Thus, he went back and

eventually it was reduced to ve daily Prayers. After this,

the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returnedto Makkah on the same night itself.

Therefore, Muslims should be thankful to Allah for thisgift. They should take care of it and never neglect it. Itis the thing that allows the Muslim to communicate withthe creator ve times as day.

CELEBRATING THE EVENTAs far as the Muslims are concerned, there is no particularcelebration, fast or prayer to commemorate Al-Isra and

Al-Miraj. But in some places, the Muslims themselveshave started to have commemorative functions, wherethe story of the night journey is told in poetry or lectures.

While the Prophet himself did not establish thesepractices, there are scholars who maintain that gatheringsmeant to remind the Muslims of the importance of

Al-Miraj in the history of Islam, or to remind us of theimportance of love for t he Prophet and the signicance

of the city of Jerusalem, are permissible.

    SIGNIFICANCE OF

    AL ISRA AND AL MIRAJ

There is no doubt that Al-Isra(the night journey) followed by

Al-Miraj (the heavenly ascension)was one of the miracles in thelife of our Prophet Muhammad(peace and blessings be uponhim). According to the mostaccepted view, it happened onthe 27th of Rajab, the seventhmonth of the Hijri calendar, inthe tenth year of Muhammads(PBUH) prophethood.

    April - June 2012 TRAVEL

If youve decided this is your year to go to the

Summer Olympics, hold on to your wallet.

Its going to be expensive, says Robert Reid, U.S.travel editor for Lonely Planet travel guides. Its just aquestion of how to save a little bit here and there, asmuch as you can.

This years Summer Olympics run from July 27 to Aug.12 in London. The Paralympics are Aug. 29 to Sept. 9,also in London.

Its worth it just to be around the Olympics and soak inthe excitement and the avor of the games, Reid says.

Itll denitely be a memorable experience.

Here Are A Few More Budget-Friendly Tips For GettingTo And Around The Summer Olympics.

    - Dont count on discount airfares to London thissummer. Summer is always expensive to the U.K.,Clampet says. This year will be worse, with highdemand for the games and because airlines are ying

    fewer and fuller planes.

    - Still, try the usual ways to save - y at off-peak times

and dates, be exible and search for the best prices

on comparison websites such as Priceline.com,Travelocity.com and Momondo.com, Clampet says.

The good news? The London Organizing Committee

of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games recently

released 120,000 extra hotel nights in London. They

were rooms that had been reserved for dignitariesand athletes.

Many locals also will be renting out their houses andapartments. Check listings on sites such as HomeAway.com and Airbnb.com, Reid says. Be wary of scammers.Deal only with reputable websites, and follow theirpayment guidelines.

Staying in commuter hubs outside of London butclose to public transit, such as Cambridge and Oxford, also might be cheaper, Reid says. And there are ve

campsites in the city limits, some near the Olympics, with prices starting at $25 per night.

To save, avoid event nals unless you really love the

sport, and seek less popular events.

For example, attending a Greco-Roman wrestling nal

will be cheaper than the diving nal, Reid says.

    Finding local transportation

Getting around London and the Summer Olympicscomes down to two things: an Oyster card and yourfeet. The Oyster (transit pass) cuts about 40 percent offthe cost of the Tube and buses, Frommers Clampetsays, referring to the London Underground. You can buythem in advance; just allow time for shipping. The Tube

is the cheapest, fastest way to get around. Many sports stadiums and arenas are at the Olympic

Park, though other venues are spread throughout

    the city.

Olympic sites have no parking, so youll have to arrivevia one of the many trains, buses, shuttles, taxis andriver ferries servicing the venues. The city has revampedpublic transit, cycling routes and pedestrian trails toconnect most parts of the city easily to the OlympicPark, so it isnt too hard to get around.

Or, you could rent a bike through a Barclays CycleHire (also called Boris Bikes), which works like t he self-service luggage cart kiosks at airports. You can rent abike, ride it, and then leave it at the kiosk closest to yourdestination. Its free if the trip is less than 30 minutes.Otherwise, it costs about $24 for three hours.

Eating and getting cash in London

Its easy to spend $25 per person for every meal inLondon, but you can eat well for less, Clampet says. There will be a lot of good street food during the games, which is great if you dont want to (do it up) on everymeal, he says.

Just make sure you have cash. The U.K. banking systemuses different credit card technology -- their credit cardsare outtted with microchips and require a PIN, unlike

the vast majority of U.S. cards, which use a magneticstrip with a signature.
