Class 3/4V

We have been having lots of fun in 3/4V over the last 2 weeks.

In Mathematics last week we had fun playing with water, measuring different sized containers. Students estimated and measured how many litres or millilitres a container could hold.

In PDHPE we looked at what makes a good friend. Students had to write about what they thought a good friend looks like and what they can do to be a good friend.

During English we have been looking at Narratives. We have been exploring a different types of narratives and the language features authors use.

This week homework will start again, if student's still have their homework folders at home please send them back. Homework will be sent home on a Monday and brought back on a Friday.

Simultaneous Story Time

Last Wednesday, 27th May, 2020 at 11:00am children all around Australia took part in National Simultaneous Story time.

National Simultaneous Story time is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

This year the book was ‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’, written and illustrated by Lucinda Gifford.

At Taree Public School students in KG, 1/2H and 3-6R enjoyed listening to the story about two cheeky chickens who like to go out at night to sing and dance.

Books In Homes

I hope everybody has enjoyed reading their books that they received at the end of last term as part of the ‘Books in Homes Program’.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions we were unable to hold our Book Giving Assembly.

During Term One, ‘Books in Homes’ ran an email competition and students in 3/4V entered. They had to answer a question about the author of ‘Beautiful Yummy Food’, by Tanya Nagy.

Congratulations to Milo, Hayley, Rex and Rubie who were the winners. They each received a beautiful set of books about healthy fruit and vegetables.

Mrs Mitchell

Class 5/6S

Class 5/6 have been very creative designing posters for the classroom, reinforcing our school values of safety, respect, learning and success.

In Maths we have been focusing on Roman Numerals and in Geography we have been learning about climate zones of the world.

National Reconciliation Week 2020 Theme

In 2020 Reconciliation Australia marks twenty years of shaping Australia’s journey towards a more just, equitable and reconciled nation.

Much has happened since the early days of the people’s movement for reconciliation, including greater acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights to land and sea; understanding of the impact of government policies and frontier conflicts; and an embracing of stories of Indigenous success and contribution.

2020 also marks the twentieth anniversary of the reconciliation walks of 2000, when people came together to walk on bridges and roads across the nation and show their support for a more reconciled Australia.

As always, we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and Australians now benefit from the efforts and contributions of people committed to reconciliation in the past.

Today we work together to further that national journey towards a fully reconciled country.

Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We strive towards a more just, equitable nation by championing unity and mutual respect as we come together and connect with one another.

On this journey, Australians are all In This Together; every one of us has a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY

Our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual students from their responses.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish. If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable, he/she can choose to stop the survey at any time. The majority of questions in the survey can be skipped.

If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the form sent home last week and return it to the school by tomorrow, Tuesday 2nd June.

More information about the survey and the research is available in English on the CESE website: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents
