DECEMBER MUSIC CONCERTS in the Prairie View Cafetorium

Thursday, December 7 Grade 2 at 6pm Grade 3 at 7pm

Friday, December 15 Kindergarten at 2:15pm

(Grade 1, 4, and 5 concerts will be in April 2018)

The holiday season is upon us as well as the

WI winter! Our Prairie View students have

been learning about social skills and

friendship skills in November as well as how

to stay safe during WI’s other important

season—hunting season!

In December we will be talking about

character—who you are and the choices you

make when no one is looking—just in time

before Santa comes for his visit.

Prairie View is fortunate to have partners in

the community to assist our families who

may be encountering challenges during the

holiday season. If we can be of assistance

please do not hesitate to contact your

child’s classroom teacher or myself at

608.526.1600 x1610 or

[email protected]. Happy Holidays!

COUNSELOR CONNECTION – MR. EIKEN

The 2nd graders have been very busy this year creating beautiful art! Right now we are finishing up our mini unit on color by ending it with Color Wheel Snowflakes. Next, we will be beginning our winter season unit by creating projects such as Zentangle Christmas Trees, Winter Cardinals and Sparkling Snow Globes. The students at Prairie View have been an absolute joy to work with so far and I look forward to the rest of the year!

Dear Prairie View Families, Gift giving is an accepted part of Christmas, but giving a gift to a person who is in need is especially gratifying. During our holiday season at Prairie View we plan to have our staff and students experience that joy.

On November 28, 29, 30 and December 1, 5, 6, and 7 children representing the 1st – 5th grade classrooms will take turns being “bell ringers” in front of the entrances. In addition, bell ringers will be present the evening of the music programs on Thursday, December 7th. We encourage you or your child(ren) to bring any loose change to deposit in the bell ringers’ collection buckets. Some children may even want to do special chores around the house to earn money. The money collected will be used to purchase gifts for individuals from the Caring Tree at a Holmen church which helps students from the School District of Holmen. We thank you in advance for supporting us in this service project. Please contact your children’s teachers with any questions regarding this.

NEWS FROM THE STUDENT COUNCIL

Guess the weight of the pumpkin was a success. We raised $323.00 which

will be used to purchase items for the Children’s Section of the new

Holmen Library. During the month of November, we held a food drive.

Thanks to you and your families, we collected 686 items to donate to

local food pantries.

We just got word from our friend, Milton, the snowman, that he will be

returning to visit our school this year. We can’t wait to show him how

amazing our school is! The student Council would like to wish you Happy

Holidays! May you enjoy days spent with those you love during this

holiday season.

We are always looking for

volunteers! If you have a few hours

to share, contact a PTO board

member at [email protected]

THANK YOU

The Prairie View PTO Sunshine Committee would

like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all parents

who generously donated to the meals for parent

The Library Zone

Congratulations Prairie View families! Because of your dedication to summer reading we won the participation award from the La Crosse County Library. This is the first time that we have received this award - let’s not make it our last. Check out the photo of Dr. Tronstad, Mrs. Knapmiller, and Library Dog on our webpage. https://www.holmen.k12.wi.us/Page/53

The Little Free Library book supply is dwindling. If you have any gently used books that you would like to donate to replenish our collection for the LFL please drop them off in the office. Thank you in advance!

Other news in the LMC: Battle of the Books - Interested students in 3rd - 5th grades are continuing to read books

from the lists. See the LMC website for access to the lists. https://www.holmen.k12.wi.us/domain/158 Students in 4th and 5th grade have formed their teams and joined a Google Classroom where information will be shared amongst team members.

Third Grade Bookmark Club - Interested students in 3rd grade met in November to create Origami bookmarks for the patrons of the LMC.

Kindergarten students continue to practice the use of the shelf marker and responsibility of using an LMC book. They are learning the various parts of a book and the difference between fiction and nonfiction text. We will make our way into the computer lab for mouse practice in December. Our next author study will be the James Dean and Eric Litwin team.

First graders will be introduced to coding and will practice their skills during the Hour of Code. Searching for books on Destiny will begin. Our author study will include Kevin Henkes and Eric Carle.

Second through fifth grades will be examining the Acceptable Use Policy and gaining understanding of what it means. We will also investigate our digital footprints. Students will participate in the Hour of Code between December 4 and 10th.

Thank you for supporting our LMC by attending our book fair. Our goal was to sell 860 books. We exceeded our goal by over 200 books! The proceeds from the fair will be used to pay for our author visit on April 18, 2018, when Miranda Paul will be at Prairie View. We will have another book event, a BOGO fair, during spring conference time. We look forward to seeing you then.
