This booklet contains two different kinds of scholarships:

Independent Community Scholarships - offered by different groups or individuals within the community.

Wisconsin Heights Education Foundation (WHEF) - offered by different groups or individuals within the WHEF.

Please make sure that you read all of the information and follow directions completely. To apply for any of the scholarships, students first need to make sure that they meet the requirements for them. A student may apply for as many of the scholarships as he or she qualifies for.

Scholarship recipients will receive an invitation to Scholarship Awards Night on May 19, 2021.

In order to receive a scholarship, attendance at Scholarship Awards Night is mandatory. Any scholarships that are awarded must be applied to the 2021-2022 school year.

The Student’s Responsibility - Completing each scholarship requirements and obtaining and attaching all materials to

complete each application.- Contacting the individual or organization giving the scholarship to set up distribution of funds.

Applications are due to the High School Guidance Office by 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 24th, 2021.

Late applications will NOT be accepted.

Beil Family Scholarship 1 @ $1,000.00

Description: Applicant must have post-high school plans to include enrollment in a 2 or 4-year College or plan to further their education through an Apprenticeship or Trade School program. Primary consideration will be given to those students who have a strong work ethic and have overcome obstacles in their educational journey, be it academic, social, or financial.

The Beil Family Scholarship Application must be completed and attached to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

Black Earth High School Alumni Association 2 @ $1,500.00 Wendell Anderson Athletic Scholarship 1 @ $1,000.00 Description: Applicant must currently be living in the old Black Earth school district. Recipients will be

expected to attend the Alumni meeting on June 19, 2021.

Include a 200-300 word double-spaced essay using 12 point font outlining your current involvements, achievements, goals and future plans. Attach a transcript with attendance. Two to three letters of recommendation are required and they should touch on your school and community involvement. Please attach a separate page listing the receipt of other scholarships you have already been notified of receiving. List the name of the scholarship along with the dollar amount.

Please attach the required information to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

District One EMS Association 2 @ $500.00 Description: Applicant must have college plans for a career in the health care field. Applicants are

encouraged to list any community service on the application.

Describe how you meet the listed criteria. Please attach the criteria to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

Heights Picnic Booster/Steve Schmitt 2 @ $500.00 Description: Applicant must be enrolled in a 2 or 4-year College. Preferred, the applicant has been a regular

at the annual Heights Picnic Booster fundraiser and/or has volunteered at the event. Four years of athletic involvement in any high school sports.

Describe how you meet the listed criteria and attach the criteria to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

Knights of Columbus Council 7811 Scholarship 1 @ $500.00 Description: Applicant must be a senior who will be graduating.

The Knights of Columbus Scholarship Application must be completed and attached to the Independent Scholarship Application as well as a copy of your high school transcript.

Madison Motorcyle Club – Duane Eller Memorial Scholarship 1 @ $1,250.00 Description: Applicant must have post-high school plans to include enrollment in a 2- or 4-year college or

plan to further their education through an apprenticeship or trade school program.

With application, include a cover letter describing in their own words their goals for education and how they align with their desired career path.

Submit 3 letters of recommendation, with at least one being from a Wisconsin Heights School staff member (teacher, administration etc..,) with application submission.

It is preferred but not a requirement that the applicant is currently or has been involved in some form of community service. Please submit community service information.

Upon successful selection the Madison Motorcycle club ask’s that the recipient attend, in person, one club meeting with a parent or guardian to introduce themselves and share their goals with the club.

Mazomanie/Black Earth Friends of the Libraries Scholarship 1 @ $1,000.00

Description: Please submit the following information: (In descending order of priority) *Applicant has worked in a paid or volunteer status in Mazomanie or Black Earth Library.*Applicant has worked on and completed a project in support of Black Earth or MazomanieLibrary.*Applicant has worked on and completed a project in support of literacy in the community.*Applicant has a letter of support from either or both libraries citing activities the student hascompleted in support of the named library.

The tie breaker for this scholarship is: *Student grade point average*Length of time performed service in Mazomanie or Black Earth Library

Mickelsons-Martin American Legion Auxiliary Post 313, Black Earth WI 1 @ $250.00 Description: Applicant must be a descendant of a U.S. Veteran which includes mother, father, daughter,

son, sister, brother, grandparents, or great grandparents.

Qualified applicants are asked to include a cover letter, a teacher recommendation letter, transcript with attendance, and a list of community service activities.

In the cover letter please address how you meet the criteria, why you would be a deserving recipient, and why you have chosen your college field of study.

Mickelsons-Martin American Legion Post 313, Black Earth WI 1 @ $500.00 Description: Applicant must be a descendant of a U.S. Veteran which includes mother, father, daughter,

son, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, or great-grandparents.

Qualified applicants are asked to include a cover letter, a teacher recommendation letter, a transcript with attendance, and a list of community service activities.

In the cover letter please address how you meet the criteria, why you would be a deserving recipient, and why you have chosen your college field of study.

The Peoples Community Bank Qualified applicants receive $500.00 Description: Applicant must meet the following criteria:

1. Pursue a college level education as a degree candidate in a business or a business-related field of study e.g. finance, accounting, agri-finance, management, marketing,communications, etc.

2. Be a non-relative of any officer or director of The Peoples Community Bank.3. Demonstrate scholastic aptitude, leadership, and service ability.

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate and document a level of financial need.

The structure of the scholarship awards is at the discretion of The Peoples Community Bank.

The Peoples Community Bank Scholarship Application must be completed for consideration.

Veterans for Peace Chapter 25 Essay Contest - Scholarship 1 @ $500.00 Description: Veterans for Peace Chapter 25, of southern Wisconsin, is part of an international organization

of military veterans dedicated to increasing public awareness of the human and monetary costs of war.

Essay (500-700 words) on the topic: “Why I Believe War Is Not the Answer.” Youtube link: https://youtu.be/uHRUwtkfMqM

Please attach the essay and a copy of your transcript to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

Wisconsin Heights 3-Sport Athlete Scholarship Qualified applicants receive $500.00 Description: Applicant must have competed in three Wisconsin Heights sponsored sports each year of their

high school career. Applicant will be ineligible to apply if an athletic code violation resulted from use/possession of prohibited substances or resulted from a major code violation.

All qualified applicants will receive a $500 scholarship.

The Wisconsin Heights 3-Sport Athlete Scholarship application must be completed. Attach the application to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

Wisconsin Heights Athletic Department Scholarship 2 @ $250.00 Description: Applicant must have been involved in at least two sports, earned a minimum of 3 varsity letters

and have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or above. The athlete must not have had any athletic code violations.

Attach a 300-word essay explaining the connection between athletics and education. Explain why you are the best candidate for this scholarship.

The Wisconsin Heights Athletic Department Scholarship application must be completed. Attach the application and essay to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS (cont.) Wisconsin Heights Drama & Heights Players Scholarship 1 @ $500.00 Description: Applicant must meet a minimum of two of the following: participation in Wisconsin Heights Players, minimum of 1 year; participation in WH High School Drama Program, minimum of 1 year; involved in fundraising for either drama program; be a positive role model while involved in drama programs. The Heights Drama Scholarship Application must be completed and attached to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

Wisconsin Heights Music Boosters Scholarship 1 @ $500.00 Description: Applicant must be pursuing a major or minor in music (i.e. education, performance, history, theory, recording, therapy, etc.) at a four-year institution and applying through the Wisconsin Heights High School Music Department.

The Wisconsin Heights Music Booster Scholarship Application must be completed and attached to the Independent Community Scholarship Application.

Wisconsin Heights Soccer Club Scholarship 1 @ $500.00 Description: Applicants must be a past (within the past 2 years) or current member of WH Soccer Club and attending a 2- or 4-year college.

Submit a 500 word essay including: 1. How many years you have been playing soccer or refereeing and at what ages. 2. Soccer team honors you have received 3. Volunteer experience with the Soccer Club – brat fry’s, concession trailer, soccer camps,

practice with younger kids, etc. 4. How your experience as a member of the WH Soccer Club has taught you about

leadership, teamwork, and organization. 5. How you will use those skills as you continue your education.

INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS (cont.) Wisconsin River Sportsmen’s Club Scholarship 1 @ $1,000.00

Description: Applicant must meet the following criteria:

Special consideration will be given to any application where the student is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in a conservation major such as wildlife ecology, fisheries biology, forestry, soil sciences, water resource management, or similar degree.

1. Must be a senior at Wisconsin Heights High School.

2. Must have applied and been accepted at a College/University. 3. A minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher is desirable.

4. Prepare a one page essay of up to 500 words. The body of the essay should explain the candidates anticipated area of study. Go into additional details if study will be in the field of conservation and why they chose the area of study. Include long term goals after graduation from college. Mention any volunteer work performed; add details that involve any conservation projects. Include the types of outdoor leisure time activities you enjoy, if applicable.

5. Provide one letter of recommendation from a non-relative in the field of academia or the private sector. If applicable, one additional letter of recommendation can be submitted from a relative working in the field of conservation.

A committee of Wisconsin River Sportsmen’s Club members will review all materials submitted by applicants and select the final recipient. The scholarship will be distributed to the recipient during the second semester of their freshman year.

THE PEOPLES COMMUNITY BANK SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION (cont.)

The Peoples Community Bank welcomes your application for a one-time, $500 scholarship to be awarded based on the following criteria:

• Recipient must be a graduating senior.

• Recipient must be a non-relative of any officer or director of The Peoples Community Bank (spouse, child, grandchild).

• Recipient will pursue a college level education as a degree candidate in a business or business-related field of study e.g. finance, accounting, agri-finance, management, marketing, communications, etc. at an educational institution described by section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii) of the Internal Revenue Code.

• Recipient must demonstrate scholastic aptitude as evidenced by grade point average.

• Recipient will have demonstrated leadership and service ability as evidenced by school and community involvement.

• Preference in the selection of scholarship candidates will be given to those applicants who demonstrate and document a level of financial need.

The Peoples Community Bank reserves the right to structure the scholarship awards in any manner they deem appropriate.

Internship Program: Each year our bank offers internships to area students who have completed their junior year of college in one of the above listed business-related courses. This paid internship, during the months of May-August, is a 12-week program with rotations through four departments within the bank. During the final rotation, successful candidates will be working directly with experienced lenders in originating loans. Interviews for these internships typically commence during the months of January and February. Should you have an interest in applying for this program at the appropriate time in your college career, simply contact an officer at any of our six locations for information.

WISCONSIN HEIGHTS DRAMA & HEIGHTS PLAYERS SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA/APPLICATION (Established Fall 2008)

The Heights Drama Scholarship, valued at $500, will be awarded to a graduating senior. The recipient will be chosen by a committee made up of people involved with both the Wisconsin Heights Players and the Wisconsin Heights High School Drama program. Parents or other relatives of the applicants will not be a part of the selection committee. Students must meet a minimum of two of the following criteria to apply. Please check as many as apply:
