An interesting mix of things to consider: a few gold pieces including some appealing American currency, ancients with an appeal and interesting history that reflect our belief that “it doesn’t have

to be expensive to be appealing,” do note the nicer Greek silver and attractive Roman bronze, some quality English hammered ranging from Anglo Saxon to Stuart followed by copper halfpennies from the Robinson collection including several rare overdates (see below), tokens from the 13th, 18th and 19th centuries, a small run of Russian coins from the doomed reign of Nicholas II, some “raw” early US type coins from a collection we recently purchased and, finally, some fascinating medals marking coronations and a beautiful work of medallist’s art from the Thirty Year’s War to finish the sale. It is an eclectic mix and we enjoyed putting it together.

The ANA course in late June Allan is co-teaching has enough people to run but there is still room. Allan and Chuck Bianchi will take people through the sweep of British coinage with special units on

Scotland, Ireland, manufacture and grading British material, and exploration of transitions in design and monetary policy. We can provide details or you can visit the ANA website.

Best wishes, Allan, Marnie, & Lief Davisson 5-1-2017

tokEns These high quality cast tin tokens were first discovered in the early 1840s in a ditching project not far from the Museum of

London. At the time, John Akerman, an important 19th century numismatist commented about the perennial need for small change suggesting that may have been why these were made. Though subsequent scholars have agreed on the 13th century date and the fact that these pieces did have a “numismatic” purpose, it remains an interesting puzzle whether these were made for ecclesiastical or trade purposes (or both).

Thinking of selling your collection? Or parts of it?

We would be happy to make you an offer!

Since we issued our first printed sale sheet in 1969 while still students at the University of Minnesota, we have been fortunate to handle thousands of fascinating coins of all types -- American, European, and World from all eras, ancient Greek and Roman and, of course, coins, tokens and medals of the British Isles. We will bring the experience and enthusiasm we have exhibited for forty years to your collection. We have helped form some exceptional collections. When there is material outside our specialties of Greek, Roman, and British, we can call upon a depth of knowledge about the coin market generally, as well as contacts who specialize in those other areas. Our membership in the restrictive International Association of Professional Numismatists means that we have personal relationships with the most important dealers in the world. Contact us if you would like to discuss your collection--whether as a project in progress, as something that needs a valuation, or as an asset you would like to cash out. In a time when major auction firms pride themselves on following the business school dictum to “not own inventory” and individual consignments can get lost in huge catalogs that can weigh several pounds, we can offer your coins in a small scale specialized format that gives optimal attention to all your material. Or we are happy to give you a cash offer for your coins. When the time comes for someone else to treasure what you have owned for a while, we would be delighted to give your collection the same careful attention we give all items we offer. We can travel to meet with you. We can arrange for a FedEx shipment at our expense. We carry private insurance to cover the value of your collection while it is in transit.
