e-Assessment: So many tools, but which ones should we use?

Associate Professor Michael SankeyDirector, Learning Environments and Media

• You seem to be going along OK thanks

• Then comes the curved ball, “I’ve got a new tool…”

• Can you resist, or do you have to go with the flow?

• Do you have mechanisms in place to soften the blow?

• What about governance structures to support this?

• Surely we must have some policy and procedures to help…

• Change is a certainty

• Future proofing – nice thought – but it is necessity

• Road maps

• Standards – framework – quality controls

• Ultimately though we all want to improve

If you're not aiming for something you're sure to miss it

Benchmarking

• For us, e-assessment is a fundamental truth –fully aligned with everything we do (80%)

• Fully aligned/synonymous with TEL

• It should be no surprise that the framework we have adopted is aligned with the ACODE TEL benchmarking methodology and their performance indicators

• 2011 and 2014 both highlighted a lack of student support and training in the use of TEL

The Benchmarks

• Benchmark 5 - Staff professional development for the effective use of technology enhanced learning

• Benchmark 6 - Staff support for the use of technology enhanced learning

• Benchmark 7 - Student training for the effective use of technology enhanced learning

• Benchmark 8 - Student support for the use of technology enhanced learning

Conclusion

• The ACODE Benchmarks are a great place to start

• It doesn’t happen over night

• It has taken 4 years to get to this point

• We are not fully there yet

• But by goodness we are a lot closer than we were
