August,1950 the City and Water En-gineer submitted a report to the Council on the regulation of Buil-dings and control of land use for the City of Durban, being proposed part of the Town planning Scheme..

"xifter protracted consideration... ....The eonsent of His Honour the administrator was received and zoning provisions and regulations for residential areas took effect from this date,.

"...The Distriot of Clairwood was one of the areas included within the Indtstrial zones...

• "Frolo the above it will be ob-served that it has always been the intention of the City Coun-cil that Clairwood should form part of the Industrial Area of Durban...."

THE CONGRESS BRANCH is obtaining legal opinion on this matter and it is hoped that if this opinion is favourable to test the Counoiis decision in Court.

".... I have to advise that the work requested (condition of footpath opposite Clairwood Junior Boys' school - Jacobs Road" will be carried out as soon as the necessary labour becomes available?

"Designs for the sewerage of the lower Clairwood ^rea, that is bet-ween the South Codst Road and the loop of the Bluff Railway Line between Clairwood and Wentworth Station, have been prepared for soma time. Considerable delays have been experienced in obtaining im-port permits for the necessary pumping plant, most of which must be manufactured overseas. However, permission has now been reoeived from the Director of Exports and Imports to invite tenders for the necessary plant, subject to certain speoial conditions. These conditions are being incorporated in the speci-fication, and tenders will be in-' vited for the plant in the course of two or three weeks.

"Every endeavour will be made to expedite this work, as this Depart-ment and the City Medical Officer of Health are very anxious to see waterborne sewerage provided in the area concerned."

HI ORDER to exert maximum pressure on the City Council on the question of improved civic amenities for the people of Clairwood and District,the Branch has prepared a petition to be si<?ned by the people of the area making the following demands

(i) Improve and macadamise the road in which we live wnlch is in extreme disrepair;
