What is dystopia and where does it come from?

Generally, dystopia is a world where nothing is perfect and problems are more extreme.

Dystopia comes from the Ancient Greek roots dys- and –topia which means “bad” and “place to live”. Without the dys- in dystopia it will be utopia which is the opposite of dystopia. It is a world where everything is perfect

It is a genre of book in which social and politics are very bad. It's a nightmare.

Dystopia is most of the time characterized by a society that suffers of poverty, squalor or oppression. Most of the time, Science fiction is the theme.

The goal of dystopian literature is to frighten the reader. It also proves that a perfect society doesn’t exist.

How do authors use them?

You have to think about what are the current technologies in your world and how to incorporate them in your writing.

Take problems from the present in your life and put them in the future. How would they affect the future?

Like we said before the Hunger Games theme is poverty and war. The author used poverty as the people in the districts are poor and the war as the people fighting against each other in an arena.
