CAN YOU

IMAGINE

HOW A

DYSTOPIAN

WORLD

COULD BE?

http://www.google.com/imghp

A dystopia is the undesirable

condition of one society

(generally in a speculative

future) that declines in

somehow; it’s characterized by

dehumanization, oppression,

poverty, squalor or diseases in

the people who make part of

the community.

The overcrowding or an

environmental or technology

collapse could be the causes for

this kind of situation.

We are always dreaming how

much better could be the things.

But, what happen if we aim to

the other extreme? Let’s think

for a second how worse

everything could be... What if

the human rights had not been

declared yet? What if all

renewable resources had already

been over? What if the entire

world was ruled by a single

person with an absolutist

government? Or if the animals

suddenly get the ability to

reason and they bring us under

their will? Or if a terrible disease

than makes the people behave

like zombies affect everyone and

you are the only person who is

still sound?

These are a few suppositions

(maybe a little exagerated) (or

maybe not) of how could it be,

and the literature can give you

a few more.

Here you will found 6 trilogies’

recommendations to give you a

better idea of how to live in a

dystopian world could be.

CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW A DYSTOPIAN WORLD COULD BE?

The five trilogies are highly recommended. All of them have been in the New York

Times bestseller list.

The first in the list is a trilogy wrote by Suzanne Collins: TTHHEE HHUUNNGGEERR

GGAAMMEESS. Here is the first book’s plot: «In

the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against

humanity and life against love1 ».

The second book is Catching Fire and the last is Mockingjay.

MATCHED

The third trilogy is MMAATTCCHHEEDD, by Ally Condie; and it’s about a society, where «officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die.

Cassia has always trusted their choices. It’s hardly any price to pay for a long life, the perfect job, the ideal mate. So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is the one… until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now Cassia is faced with impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path no one else has ever dared follow — between perfection

and passion3». The book number two

is Crossed, and the last is Reached.

The trilogy number four is by James Dasher: The Maze Runner. Here is the plot of the first book (which has the same name): «When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors

Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift. Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers. Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark

secrets buried within his mind44». The

second book’s name is The Scorch Trials, the third The Death Cure, and there is a prequel called The Kill Order.

The most of the stories described in

dystopian books are current social's tendencies' consequence. Therefore,

reading this kind of books, you can have an idea of what can happen if the things

go to the extreme. Or even no to the extreme necessarily.

THERE ARE A THOUSAND OF

WAYS TO MAKE THE THINGS GO

BETTER, BUT THERE ARE A

THOUSAND MORE OF HOW IT

COULD BE WORSE. IF YOU READ

BOOKS LIKE THOSE MENTIONED

ABOVE YOU WILL SEE A FEW

POSSIBILITIES IN THE BIG LIST.

RReeaaddiinngg tthhiiss kind of books you may have a particular, interesting, and different perspective of how could it be living in a dystopian world. And

maybe it isn't so far away as we think.
